and I wrap my drip shelf two layers of aluminum foil I would never let it get built up like you have but I stripped the aluminum foil off and I'm good to go to rewrap...... the ashes in the bottom I get up with a Shop-Vac

Nothing on cleaning thermal sensor? also I put a cup of ammonia and 3 gallons on water in 5 gallon bucket, grill racks in for an hour or so, then flip and do another hour, non scratch brush and sponge and they are like new. Good rinse. If I had a flat tray big enough I would not have to flip them
Thanks for sharing, great tips on cleaning the grates/racks! If the thermal sensor acquires build-up or if the grill is not monitoring or maintaining temperature correctly, it is good to clean the thermal sensor. You can use a warm soapy scrub sponge, 000 steel wool or a scotch-brite pad to clean it. In the latest cleaning video on the Trek model here, we do show cleaning of that thermal sensor - th-cam.com/video/K0-BpXJzvks/w-d-xo.html Any other questions or tips you want to share we greatly appreciate it!
Do recommend using any kind of "oven " or bbq spray cleaner, also my combustion fan just stopped working i assume i can order a repl part, saw the video for replacing it that you had. Thanks for any help
Thanks for contacting us Greg. I'll use an all-purpose cleaner on the outside of the grill from time to time, but I do not use any cleaners inside the grill and wouldn't recommend using any in the cooking area. Just a vacuum to clean out the ash and a scarper to clean off the grease drip tray. If your unit is only 1-1/2 years old it would be under warranty yet. 3 Year Warranty from factory. If you reach out to GMG direct with your serial number they can verify and get you a new fan out. For reference, this would be the replacement for the Davy - all years of manufacturer - pellethead.com/product/green-mountain-grills-gmg-davy-crockett-combustion-fan-blower-motor-oem/ Any other questions please let us know. Thanks!
what about some Easy-Off oven cleaner spray and then hit it with a power washer for the lid and the body to clean clean clean this substantially clean not superficially my mama would never approve of that cleaning job...... what about wrapping a garbage bag around computer and pellet bucket spread with Easy-Off in the driveway and then hit it with power washer have to wear a hazmat suit that stuff's going to go everywhere
Thanks for the message. I think there are a number of different ways to clean the body/exterior of the grill. Folks that wipe it down with a cleaner after each cook, tend to spend less time and the grill ends up looking sharp for much longer. I am not that guy as you can see by my grill in the video.. LOL. Degreaser cleaners work well removing stubborn build-up on the exterior, stainless cleaners work pretty well on the lid/hood. Some folks will give the grill body a full sand down and repainting if it's starting to look rough, others just let it go. Thanks again for the message @uawsux
Sorry to hear you found it horrible, we are just trying to help and give some insight. The ash just simply gets sucked out with a vacuum - just make sure the ash is completely cool. Thanks David.
@@EarthSense I meant the smoker looks really bad. Video is fine. Sorry. So started my first smoke this morning, and my first gripe is power cord(s). Thats horrible. Had to tape the cigarette lighter connectors together cuz they wouldn't stay connected.. thought there was a 120v option for some reason ..
@@davidurdahl6656 Thanks David. Yeah, this is one of the very first Davy Crockett's and I have used it a lot over the past 7 years. Shouldn't have to tape the connections together; should be a tight pressed fit. If it's a loose fit reach out to GMG and they will make sure they get you correct replacements. Yes, does have the 120V Option, that's how I run mine most of the time. Should have a power cord that plugs into the inverter box to run direct to 120V 3 Prong Outlet. Happy to help anyway we can. Thanks!

Yeah, the foil liners on the grease drip tray are great for quick and easy cleanup there. Thanks!
Your review of the gmg Davy Crockett convinced me to buy one from earth sense!

the great's are easily cleaned in the sink...
You can certainly clean the grates in a sink, but be aware it will be messy with the grease.

@@EarthSense meant a 3 prong 120 connection to the smoker. Yeah none of the cigarette lighter connections are good at all.
@@EarthSense it's plugging away other wise. Smells pretty friggin good out here.
