Just incase you missed it, here is the link to the 2020 Charger Hellcat Widebody: th-cam.com/video/yO72LQ_aqXA/w-d-xo.html Nearly 500 HP is plenty in this car and we much prefer the Scat Pack over the Hellcat but feel free to tell us which you like more.... Hellcat or 392 Scat Pack??
Same I currently own a v6 mustang. Was my first car but I’m ready to trade it for the charger. With kids need the 4 door while also being able to have fun with a v8
As an owner of a narrowed scatpack and a hellcat Challenger, this review is spot on. I enjoy taking the scatpack on more trips. And in ECO mode, I've scored as high as 25.6 MPG. Awesome to think this is still offered
@@ormand3000 there is no actual proof to back up the claims of the newer 5.7’s and 6.4’s having mds issues. We’ll be enjoying our scat packs while you drive your mom’s minivan
LetsGoToMarsMan yeah I saw some used some had 18k-20k miles but you gotta think those were some hard miles. Driving this car is so much fun. Everywhere you’re driving you’re trying to punch it. So I’m not so sure about used.
LetsGoToMarsMan hell fucking now you can not . I wish I’m sure we both do , they’re still in the mid 40s on average. The gt500 has reached 30k just now .
Just tell them they do have awd muscle cars the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango both come in the 5.7, 6.4 and Grand Cherokee trackhawk 6.2 supercharged
Paul Lubbers people today don’t know how to properly drive RWD, and because of that always want AWD to save them and make them think they’re a better driver than they actually are.
Just remember when he says it scares him... that’s a good scare not a bad scare. The only scary thing is the 20k difference between both of these vehicles. Another informative review by the way.. keep them coming.
It’s an outstanding transmission. I’ve had a lot of auto transmissions over the past 36 years, usually with a high stall converter for the track. This is the first auto trans that I’ve owned that can 60 ft as well as my other autos without a stall converter. It knows when to up/down shift. It’s so good.
4.3 second 0-60 is very conservative for the scat pack. Especially with the widebody. I have a 2019 scat pack charger and I put 275 all season continental extreme contact tires on it. I got 4.0-4.2 seconds for the most part. One time I hit 3.9!
Thank you Sofyan, thank you so much for giving the engine specs and discussing the exterior first and then going into the interior. My OCD used to kill me when you used discuss the engine after doing the exterior and then the interior and then the engine. It just used to feel in organized. Love your reviews. Never miss it.
Loved the drive of this vehicle. It reminds me of the smoothness that older American sedans had. I drove a Scatpack (non-widebody) and even in that car the power was really good. I think there needs to be an AWD variant for all that power. If you own one of those in a climate where the seasons change you could really wind up in major trouble with just RWD. The build quality is the biggest thing that pulled me away from it when I drove it though. The center stack trim piece seemed to be misaligned. When I went to straighten it the whole thing started to come apart. NOT what you want, especially in a 50k+ car. The other thing was the 🦵 room. As big as it looks if you’re a taller front seat driver the rear seat room is very GTIish. Thanks for continuing to bring us all the cool stuff we want to see 🤟
Glad to see someone else couldnt get launch control to work either. I had it in my 2015 challenger and couldnt get it to work, I just spun the wheels (I assumed I was doing it wrong). I've never tried launch control on my scat pack charger though, I feel no need to use it. They did such a good job with traction control in this car. It really is there just to prevent you from killing yourself. It still let's you burn out and even slide a bit without cutting power. I think it's really just designed to keep you straight-ish (which is what you want) I remember traction control systems that would kill the power at the slightest slip and it was awful
i ordered my 2019 scat pack when they opened up at my dealer and absolutely love it! ive since upgraded the suspension with Eibach springs, and put some beefy 315s in the back with 295s up front on some Feradda wheels. cant wait to do my big cam with intake and longtubes next year! she runs 12.3 in the quarter now
@@williamrose7818 i think its a timing thing, just a bit of operator error haha. My PB is 12.33, im close! But there arent many stock scats breaking 11s
I daily my ‘17 Scat Pack with no regrets. Puts a smile on my face each and every drive. It sounds like Dodge has improved the exhaust note even more in this evolution of the Scat. I wouldn’t mind owning a Hellcat one day, but it’s kinda hard to justify the extra $20K, unless I go for a used one.
That was a great review, we don't get these in Australia but we get the same setup in a Chrysler 300 SRT with the same specs. I have just purchased one and love it.
L.A. Gaming they get 8 because the reviewers punch on it and leave them idling for a long time they average about 15-18 mpg and that’s with hard driving
I believe they don't offer the AWD in the ScatPack because it would be too close to the Hellcat in terms of 0-60 times. It would take away from the sales of the Hellcat and customers would opt for the AWD Scatpack since it would be much safer than the Hellcat, and you would be able to drive it in the winter too, whereas the Hellcat, its too difficult to drive in the winter, and people store it away until summer (In Canada at least). I could be wrong, but thats my guess :). Btw awesome videos! Cheers!
Fantastic Review! Classifying the Scat pack as “so old school, so charismatic” is spot on! Try not to smile while driving one of these...I just bought one 😂
Going awd will take away some of that excitement imo. And just take a look at the engine placement in comparison to the shock towers or front wheels. Youd have to put that engine way forward to be able to fit half shafts and not to mention all that suspension and knuckle work that needs to be done for clearance. Slapping awd with the longitudinal mounted v8 will just ruin the balance.
I like my center stack. Everything is where I want it and it works quick. No AWD in a V8 model because there’s no room. Also no spare because in the V8 models no room for the battery up front, so it goes in the back and leaves no room for a spare.
I know it can't last forever but respect to Dodge for making beastly, heavy, loud testosterone laden machines while most everyone is going in the opposite direction with electric 4 and 6 cylinders cars. I have a white 19 scat pack challenger and absolutely love it. A scat pack is the sweet spot. Plenty of power (seriously how much do you really need) and you can get into it without being afraid of losing control like you can a hellcat. Well I would be afraid of losing control.
485hp in a Scatpack is no laughing matter and is pretty much the sweet spot when it comes to power and speed...BUT...the SRT Hellcat is certainly the hot🔥spot for me,in my opinion! Lol I would still take a Scatpack any day! I just hope Dodge doesn't go electric in the future. If it's not broken, and you're winning, why fix anything?
I describe the Charger as a highway star.. is it going to burn up winding roads? No. Can you cruise down the highway for hours in perfect comfort passing whatever you want? Absolutely. I love my Charger on road trips.
The reason why awd is not offered in the v8 models is because muscle cars are supposed to be v8s and rwd only just like back in the day. You add on awd, and its not classified as a muscle car anymore
They dropped the V8 AWD system as an option for the Charger when they switched from the 5 speed auto to the larger ZF 8 speed, because there's simply not enough room in the chassis. That iron 5.7/6.2/6/4 Hemi block is HUGE compared to the 3.6 V6. You also forgot to mention that the Widebody package on the Charger also includes the formerly SRT-exclusive 3-mode adaptive suspension along with the 11" wide wheels and 305 tires and 6-pot Brembos (big Brembos are a $$ option on the narrow body), and that the base Scat still comes with 245/45R20 rubber on 9" wide wheels as standard. To get the big brakes, adaptive suspension and 275/40r20 on 9.5" wheels on a narrow body is about $3500. So there's a lot of bang for the buck opting for the $6000 Widebody package.
went to the dealer to get a 2019 Hellcat, left with a 2019 scatpack, after test driving the scatpack I didnt bother with the Hellcat, the price and power combination couldnt be beat.
smart man most want a hellcat jus to say i got one and probably will never really enjoy the full potential of it on the street thats more a track car ...scatpack is plenty i got one as well enjoy salute
X1-800-GETWRECK don’t get me wrong I love what dodge doing period & I love dodge performance side ..but I still believe the 392 is plenty for most it jus really depends what fits the individual...I enjoy the hell out a 392 still plenty fast & faster then most I’m content ...
Anyone who complains about weight to these cars i get edgy because i got into an accident in a 392 and the cars holds up. You’re getting a good bang for your buck.
I don’t care about the difference, they both look awesome. I could easily do a drive by in this one, my Range Rover broke down in the same block that I did a drive by on,
I really hope Dodge doesn't redesign the challenger like what they did to the charger, I hope they keep the current challenger look for the next 5+ years.
I prefer the Scat Pack as a daily driver over the Hellcat because you can floor it and not lose traction like you do on the Hellcat... Also you can save money on, gas, tires and insurance costs... If I was going to the track everyday then I would get the Hellcat..
The switch gear isn’t bad guys please sit in this car and see for yourself. The turn signal is old I will say. But it’s a damn turn signal. And the stitching isn’t fake.
Sadly that's mated to the garbage 5 speed. Any advantage you might get from awd would be lost on the 5 speed which is significantly slower than the 8 speed. Plus, it's in the 5.7L which is still fast and fun but really has no need for awd. I never had an issue with my 5.7L charger or challenger, I even got snow tires for the challenger and it was serviceable in light snow. The wide body scat pack doesnt really need awd either as the fat tires do more than enough to put the power down.
@@sweatervestguy I was in Massachusetts... the key to remember is that AWD in one of these cars wouldn't make a damn bit of difference with the tires they have. They are not meant for snow or even cold weather. So if you need to buy snow tires anyways, you dont really need awd. I drove my challenger in up to 3 inches of snow. If you need to drive through anything else you should have an suv and not a low slung charger with 485 or 707 hp...
@@IIC4NCELEDII ya but for how long? It's only a matter of time before gas prices skyrocket again & Fiat Chrysler has nothing to show but muscle cars, big trucks, Jeep's, and horrible Italian piles... I feel the dodge brand specifically is on its last legs
I complained about no V8 with AWD as well. I think they don't do it because of the 8 speed being so long, they can't fit a transfer case behind it with the added cylinders (overall length). I also sat in a V6 AWD charger and it didn't feel like it had much legroom. I wonder if the AWD V6 models also have different firewall locations.
For the Infotainment screen and layout, to me looks simple but modern. Bigger screen and updated technology comes with a cost. There is only so much real estate in the center stack. That cost would probably be A/C vents. As for the no AWD…..my logic would be that is the weather is bad enough to need AWD it might be a reason to think about whether you should be out driving at all. Besides….would you want to risk damage or an accident with a muscle car of this caliber? It’s not my driving during weather that I am worried about…..it’s the other drivers!
eric ch true I wouldn’t buy it either. I don’t even like sunroofs especially living in Las Vegas where it’s too sunny and hot to even use it... I was just curious as to why it wasn’t offered.
The scat pack is a great car, and for the price it's also a great value. But please don't attempt to convince me (or anyone) it's "better" than a Hellcat. Be happy with the car and leave it at that.

smart man most want a hellcat jus to say i got one and probably will never really enjoy the full potential of it on the street thats more a track car ...scatpack is plenty i got one as well enjoy salute
SkatZilla_392 the best thing about owning a hellcat is that you can be all the cocky 392 owners 😁
X1-800-GETWRECK don’t get me wrong I love what dodge doing period & I love dodge performance side ..but I still believe the 392 is plenty for most it jus really depends what fits the individual...I enjoy the hell out a 392 still plenty fast & faster then most I’m content ...
I been here since the 13 optima sx review and to see how far this channel has come is amazing
Finally Dodge went for the flat bottom steering wheel.
Anyone who complains about weight to these cars i get edgy because i got into an accident in a 392 and the cars holds up. You’re getting a good bang for your buck.
An outstanding look at the best value big HP Chargers, very informative!
I really enjoyed your review. Nice job.
5:17 i like how the MPG goes down in real time as you floor it lol
I don’t care about the difference, they both look awesome.
I could easily do a drive by in this one, my Range Rover broke down in the same block that I did a drive by on,
Mopar sure do make a great sounding V8. Wish we got them in Aus, though the sales volume would be tiny.
I believe you still get the 300 SRT don't you?
I really hope Dodge doesn't redesign the challenger like what they did to the charger, I hope they keep the current challenger look for the next 5+ years.
I prefer the Scat Pack as a daily driver over the Hellcat because you can floor it and not lose traction like you do on the Hellcat... Also you can save money on, gas, tires and insurance costs... If I was going to the track everyday then I would get the Hellcat..
He said 6.2. What a great review
“The middle seater is shafted” i see what you did there because when I get that terrible seat you get f*cked lmao, great video
The switch gear isn’t bad guys please sit in this car and see for yourself. The turn signal is old I will say. But it’s a damn turn signal. And the stitching isn’t fake.
The Dodge Charger Pursuit (police package) comes with a 5.7 Hemi and AWD
Ryan T they the police need the base engine with 300hp, I need a slight chance to get away
@@VanquishedAgain That awd is welcomed up in the northern states. Nothing light about our snow.
THAT'S the one i'd get
Great video. The only irritating and annoying thing is I had 4-15 second commercials in this thing
I dunno how many versions of a old car Dodge can expect to do
How was the wine? Ha ha!!!!! You are the best in all actuality. I look for redline reviews. This is what I was looking for. Thanks
12 years later and dodge is still making the same car...
halmrkcrdz2 as long as it sells
@@IIC4NCELEDII ya but for how long? It's only a matter of time before gas prices skyrocket again & Fiat Chrysler has nothing to show but muscle cars, big trucks, Jeep's, and horrible Italian piles... I feel the dodge brand specifically is on its last legs
@@IIC4NCELEDII & I feel the only reason it's still selling is for fleet purposes, but cops are slowly making the transition to explorers
halmrkcrdz2 true
Is. I thought I saw an article about making chargers and challengers hybrids.
@@IIC4NCELEDII yea the new Ram already uses a extra hybrid battery now. It bumps the power from 390hp and 410tq to 395hp and 540tq.
Totaled my scat pack last month in the rain , be careful insurance will refuse to fix or replace all parts . Getting another one
1:56 I guess the Shelby GT350R Mustang isn’t included??
I took down a Shelby GT 350 mustang with my 2019 scat
I complained about no V8 with AWD as well. I think they don't do it because of the 8 speed being so long, they can't fit a transfer case behind it with the added cylinders (overall length). I also sat in a V6 AWD charger and it didn't feel like it had much legroom. I wonder if the AWD V6 models also have different firewall locations.
4:06 misaligned panels but, to be expected with Dodge.
I hate how the Challenger taillights are misaligned. Seems so common with these cars
That thing revs really dang fast!
In my opinion the 6.4 sounds better then hellcats 6.2
For the Infotainment screen and layout, to me looks simple but modern. Bigger screen and updated technology comes with a cost. There is only so much real estate in the center stack. That cost would probably be A/C vents.
As for the no AWD…..my logic would be that is the weather is bad enough to need AWD it might be a reason to think about whether you should be out driving at all. Besides….would you want to risk damage or an accident with a muscle car of this caliber? It’s not my driving during weather that I am worried about…..it’s the other drivers!
At that "Launch" segment he looks as if he was holding on for dear life---ROTFL
Can’t wait this will be my next car to go for I have a 2020 sxt once I pay this off I’ll be moving up the ladder great review man
I always wondered why they don’t offer a panoramic sunroof on the Dodge Charger when it is available on a V6 Chrysler 300S..
I wondered the same thing may be a different roof or something
Wonder if it has to do with weight.
Even if they offered it, I wouldn’t option it. I don’t want less structural rigidity and glass above my head in a 500hp car
eric ch true I wouldn’t buy it either. I don’t even like sunroofs especially living in Las Vegas where it’s too sunny and hot to even use it... I was just curious as to why it wasn’t offered.
717 flyer yea that’s my guess , weight and dangers of having so much glass in a performance car.
The scat pack is a great car, and for the price it's also a great value. But please don't attempt to convince me (or anyone) it's "better" than a Hellcat. Be happy with the car and leave it at that.
This platform is older than me 😂😂😂😂😂
I will be upgrading in the spring and can't wait
