I just ran into them on sick week ..pulled over to help us when everyone kept driving and they had plenty of their own issues so had no reason to want to help other than being good people.. they are as down to earth as it gets... it's okay to be jealous of people or not like them but don't make shit up...

I graduated in 97 and it was so much fun in those days with those Fox Bodies.. I got an 89 for my first car, and street raced it 8-10 times every Fri & Sat night.. No money was ever bet or changed hands.. You got bragging rights, and it was real racing.. Now its BS street racing that has turned into how can I steal your money no matter what.. My 89 had a b-cam, trick flow heads & explorer intake, & 4.10's and was one of the fastest cars in our town.. A few guys started getting vortech and paxton blowers that started out running me, so I got an NX plate and was a blast.. It went from 12.3-12.5 to 10.7-8's.. Now you can buy 10's from the factory and they take no skill to drive.. Our foxes were all stick shift, and you had to have skills and knowledge..

In my opinion, small tire no prep is going the same route as outlaw 10.5 did years ago. For many years it was simple rules. Stock appearing cars with headlights and taillights, stock front frame rails and firewall, 10.5 inch tires, 3000 pounds run it. It progressed itself to the moon, then Johnny Finn created ORSCA and tried to make some rules to equalize it. Which worked for a while. Some simple rules across the board that would set a standard for small tire no prep, similar to what outlaw 10.5 was, would help a good bit.

I started racing about same time as John did and in the 90’s if you had a naturally aspirated motor that made 1hp per cubic inch in a street car you had a fast car

John, you need to get a trans am back...the '84. Pretty sure its too late to get "the" t/a back, but you can do another one.
Im 54 and lucky enough 5o still have my first car...its a 1970 Olds 442. Mind you, i paid $550 for the car in 1983, but it is my first car, and its since got a new frame, floors, quarters, etc. Its been in what i call "paint jail" for the past 20 years when life got in the way...2 women, 3 children, and well, you know...life stuff. Im now having health problems and all my friends moved on so its just me and this roller in the garage. I runner up'd last time i raced the car, it was an old NMCA race at Mid Michigan dragway. Should have won that race, but ill spare y'all the excuse wagon, lol..
When the car comes back out, i want none other than Tin Soldier to finish the cage.
Interesting fact, the car only has a "6 point" but its all done right and 1 5/8 chromolly by the late great Steve Grebeck. If anybody out there know the name and remember him please comment below. If you are old as me and from Detroit then you know who he was. By coincidence, i also worked for years with "skinny kid" Keith Engling, so yeah i was around the "scene" here in Michigan going way back. I actually drove the skinny kid/brian robbins hurst/olds car at a high school drags event at milan dragway in 1987 but the only thing left from that original car was the steel roof, LoL!!! Keith went all out shortly after all that and we parted ways as gentleman. Alot of people don't know that skinny kid Keith was doing phenomenal restos and paint jobs at 15 years old thru his dads shop, Farmington Hills Collision, in the early 80s. When we worked together i was right out of high school and we met on the streets thru our love of Oldsmobiles, primarily 70-72 442s. Keith and i were restoring cars out of a 2 car garage on west side, Warrendale area, Detroit back then. Id be a miss if i didn't mention his business partner at the time named Rick Roberts. Rick and i became friends back then and loved and lived all things Oldsmobile for many years. Nothing bad happened but have not heard from Rick in a few years now, i just realized.
I just thought of a funny story, last time i raced my 70 as mentioned above, Keith skinny kid was there with some of his fox body chassis creations so i went up to him in the pit near starting line, because by then he was a big dog so he got that up front area to work from. He saw me, grabbed my hand and said "Bill Stamper...what a great blast from the past"! Made me feel pretty good, not gonna lie. At my age i will never be more than an enthusiast levelndrag racer with some pretty good stories. I will never have a quick car in a fast class, mostly due to money. With all that said, i dont ever plan to leave the sport because i grew up living it, participating best i could, and having an understanding and love for what it is y'all do every weekend. Its never gonna be a money maker except for a very select few. Ive seen a handful make it, but not without sacrifice and a bunch of box mac and cheese dinners getting there.
Ive rambled wayyy too long on this comment and doubt any of you will read it, but if you do then thank you for taking the time.
Now lets all get out there and race!
Even if its "only" within your means its still a great way to spend your time and much better than so many other things we could spend our money and time on.
Love all y'all. Go be you and make the best of it!

This going to set the cat amongst the pigeons! But I think some 500ft racing will be in the future to help the small bock format and NO2 guys stay competitive to help keep entry numbers up because those guys are not keeping up on the big end and cars are only going to keep getting faster. Secondly lots of rural outlaw tracks are short and sketchy so it will also help with safety on track and car tech level safety.

I’m a diehard Ford guy but I have to disagree. You can flat out make more power per $ with Chevy based engines. And that’s all that matters in a race car. In a street car I’m all about Ford in a Ford.
