Zitro - Comparison / Comparativa: Hi-Level PM6000 vs Rodec MX180 Limited Edition 50th Anniversary

Hi again.
Following the bunch of side-by-side mixer comparison, now it's the moment to do it with two of the German and Belgian flagships: the Hi-Level PM6000 (similar to PM4000, with 6 channels instead of 4) and the exclusive Rodec MX180 Limited Edition (50th Anniversary).
As you may have seen in my channel, we have already compared some other models (Formula Sound PM100, D&R ClubMix -same model as Hi-Level PM10000, Rodec MX180 Original, MX180 Limited, MX3000) showing interesting results that you can judge by yourself.
So, put on your headphones, reach a good level (there may be some little volume dismatch between both mixers; sorry for that, and please bear in mind that the aim of these videos was mainly aided to frequency response; you can even see frequency response analysis at the end) and enjoy/judge by yourself.

I ve got the PM2000 and the rotary 5000. I love the headroom on the mixers. The sound is brilliant even when you go fully red. No distortion or anything you now from other mixers. The EQs are not killing like the Rodec. I also had Rodec bx 9 bought for 80€ yrs ago before the the hype. It is similar and was a great mixer too. Rodec isn’t so flat and linear like the hi level. at the end both are built like a tank and good and cheap to service. Depends on your personal taste.

The Hi-Level mixer worked internally with +/-15V, which means that, in contrast to the Rodec (+/-18V, +/-5%), an LM4562NA (+/-17V max) dual op amp should run in the phono amplifier. The even better OPA1612 (+/-18V max) is not available in a pluggable DIP housing. A TL074 DIP replacement (LME49740NA, +/-17V max) is only available as a Chinese product.

I have that Oliver Ho track too.
The Hi-Level seems better sounding than the Rodec to me. The Rodec has less medium obviously. But the EQ from the Hi-Level seems to be too soft, maybe not enough for the bass cut, beat drop effect, what do you think?
But it seems to be a good thing for EQing a track in a more musical way.

hi level's EQ is really detailed. Had Rodec for a tests few years ago and sounds brilliant but hi-level sounds "better" :D

Por simple curiosidad, ¿poqué usas siempre el mismo tema para hacer las comparaciones? ¿se trata de poder comparar todos los modelos de mezcladores? ¿el tema en sí tiene un espectro de frecuencias que cubre todos los matices haciendo que se aprecia la comparación mejor? ,¿o simplemente es un temazo y te pirra? :D

Hola, José Ángel.
Bueno, en realidad, es por varios motivos:
1. Por comodidad: al tener vídeos de todas las mesas con el mismo tema, mismo pitch, y misma estructura de ecualización, resulta muy sencillo combinar las grabaciones entre sí para generar nuevos vídeos.
2. Es un tema que tiene bajos y bastantes altas frecuencias (principalmente charles). Por eso cubre medianamente bien todas las bandas, a pesar de que, obviamente, hay temas mejores para evaluar la calidad de sonido. Principalmente, funky.
3. Al usar el mismo tema, no sólo tengo lo del punto 1, sino que además todas las mesas de mezclas se evalúan sobre una grabación similar (suponiendo que el desgaste del vinilo de una grabación a otra es insignificante). Así podemos comparar en igualdad de condiciones; de hecho, si se quiere uno abrir distintas pestañas para ver otras comparaciones, se puede incluso evaluar con vídeos "cruzados", aunque ambas mesas no estén en una comparación directa de una contra otra. Además, así puede, cada uno, ir haciendo un "ranking" de qué mesa prefiere, a base de ir comparándolas entre sí. Más adelante me gustaría mostrar las respuestas en frecuencia de cada mesa (ante ruido blanco) en mi blog, pero lleva un tiempo sacar y ordenar todo ese material.
4. Es un GRAN tema; me encanta Oliver Ho.

Te has dejado algo que para lo es lo más importante, como fusionan dos temas a la vez​, para mí es lo principal cuando buscas una mesa de mezclas y eso es cómo mezclan dos temas e incluso tres. Lo demás sobra y no todas lo hacen bien o como uno espera.
