So serene and peaceful, yet moving & powerful!!! I can really feel the emphasis on the 2nd beat which creates the characteristic "halting" or "iambic rhythm" of the Sarabande. This is by far the best performance I've ever heard of Handel's Sarabande in D minor. I am currently working on Bach's Sarabande from his Partita in Bb Major for piano. Thank you for the inspiration, and for sharing this incredible masterpiece for all to hear.

I heard this for the first time 20 years ago. My 14 year old ears had never appreciated much music at all. However, when I heard this particular masterpiece, I felt an intense tingle starting in my arms, then a rush of pure emotion throughout my entire body. I felt the music touch my soul.. It was as if I had a musical orgasm, minus the need for cleanup ( or a sock for that matter, considering I was only a tender age of 14). I think it was the cello and bass parts that really did it for me. I thank you Handel for this precious gift of music.

Thank you for this wonderfully serene and melancholy Sarabande! The haunting viola, bass, bassoons, cellos a counterpoint to the heart wrenching violins are at once romantic and tragic beauty! ❤️💔

Exactly, red head and may be as in "Mother Goose Rhymes" "If a woman's eyes are green, take a whip and ...". That is exactly the type of a woman that would make you walk to The Last Judgment with a smile listening to Sarabande. To me this majestic piece sounds like a procession to The Last Judgment.
Just recalled, in old days ladies from good families were not supposed to play winds and also cello. There is only one way to hold cello.

Absolutely love this piece - especially in a Fred Dibnah documentary when the fire is lit and the chimney is going to fall down - though when our church organist plays it (brilliantly) and I'm stood in the tower ringing the bell it can get a bit scary!

:-) Thank you!
