Use far less glue and use tweezers. In preference, use "donkey glue" - a type of glue used to attach resonating parchment to a Chinese flute. This glue is removable and does not damage the bridge as SG can and does.

I find putting the parchment in my mouth for a bit softens it to allow it to be attached.

How do you remove it, to replace it if the current parchment wears through?

Could this method be used to selectively raise the action of a given string, by using multiple layers of parchment glued on top of one another over a groove? Thanks. Great video.

Fiddlerman says no, it is a mess if you put multiple layers of parchment. Plus the string needs to embed itself a little bit, so it doesn't roll of the bridge.

Any significant effect on the sound of the e string?

Considering this for my fiddles. Sleeves don’t last. Some are horrible from the start.

Yes, the E string parchment is invaluable :)

I will be installing these parchments in a few days to an instrument that is currently being played. My question is can I apply the parchment without taking the bridge off? if I need to take the bridge off will it cause my soundpost to collapse? thank you

Hi Emily! You do not have to take the bridge off. Just loosen the E-string and move it out of its slot. Then apply your parchment. Thanks :)

Why do they get installed on the bridge? I have never heard of doing this. Thanks.

Parchments help prevent the E-string from digging deep into the bridge. Sometimes the string itself will have a protector on it that slides around and will do the same thing, but the parchment on the bridge is a slightly more reliable protector.

Hello, I have a question to a luthier please. Where I live there's no luthier or violin maker I could reach and take my violin, most of the first adjustments I made by myself. The question is, I will buy a new bridge, I'm aiming for a Aubert a Mirecourt, there are two bridge models to choose, one is the normal bridge and the other the self-adjust bridge. As I won't take my violin to a luthier to make the bridge adjustment, if I buy the normal bridge I will have to set up it completely from scratch, I have never done it, I have the measures and a few tools only. The self adjusted bridge would be better at this point, but, the self adjust bridge is not made of one single piece of wood, the feet of the bridge is like an puzzle corner, it rotates in the base of the bridge to be adjustable for any violin top. How does this affect the sound, the strings will push the bridge so it will have maximum contact between feet and bottom of the bridge all the time. What would you say about my matter, do I try to set up a bridge or the Aubert a Mirevourt self adjust bridge is also a good bridge to buy. Thank you very much if you can answer me. Bye have a nice day.

You shouldn't try to install a bridge yourself. It takes a lot of training to do it properly. I would find the nearest luthier, even if you have to drive a ways. You'll be so much happier in the long run.

@@marisatolsma6191 Actually, Fiddlershop sells a pre-fitted three star Teller bridge. The height is 3.5 mm for treble and 5.5 mm for bass . The only thing that you would have to do is trim or sand the feet to fit the top plate. Granted, it's not the same as going to a professional and having a bridge done but, for someone who does not have access to a luthier, it's the next best thing.

Yes, but how do you know where the E string is... No measurements?
