- Today's video is all about the Seiko Presage "Cocktail Time" automatic watch. A few months back, we brought you the premier of the Seiko USA "Cocktail" inspired pieces that took thier design cues from the ever popular SARB065. But there is more to Presage than the "Cocktail" watches. Presage is a higher echelon of watches within the Seiko lineup that deserve your attention.
Every Presage watch has three characteristics:
1) Spron material for the mainspring and hairspring
2) Seiko's Magic Lever for efficient winding
3) Diashock protection for the balance wheel.
We will show you 4 beautiful Presage Automatic Dress Watches, and at the end we will dress up a Seiko USA Presage with a gorgeous strap to show you a completely different look.

I own the blue Presage and I've got to say it is absolutely beautiful. When your outside in the sun, the blue sunburst dial just pops like crazy. It is a very subtle watch, most people will think its just another $50 or $100 watch. But people who are knowledgeable about watches will compliment you on it.
I actually think most people who only know Rolex as a brand will think the Seiko Presage Cocktail is an expensive watch. It has a very classy dress watch vibe that will make people think it's worth more than it is. No matter if it's a layman or a watch enthusiast, you will get plenty compliments.

They are nice, as was that Orient you showed at the beginning. I am 5' 7" and my wrist is the height of all doorknobs, so no domed crystals for me. I would have to get new ones every 7 - 10 days.

Got myself a SARX029 a little while back and it is truly amazing to look at. The black enamel dial is super deep and the contrasting silver indices and gold hands are great. Definitely worth the price. It's hard to justify spending that much money on a 6R15 but the enamel is truly worth it

Hello again Mark. I have to say that I do indeed enjoy your segment on these beautiful Seiko watchs. The sarw025 and the sarx041 with the hairing bone dials, excuse my spelling, are just great. I can't make my mind up, and then you throw in the enamel dial and I want them all. These watchs sell them selves. Now I have to say you are a great salesman because one can see the passion you have for a great product. Thanks again.
The Presage are in a sweet spot (except for no sapphire) for style, choice and function. Most striking of all are the dials: Hemp, sunburst, guilloche, hemp and basket weave are all extraordinary.

I just got the blue moon one. Gotta say, fits waaaay better than the size would suggest on my 6.5 wrist. The lugs drop rather nicely.

On the second watch, with the white dial, I notice you mentioned that the hands are blue, you didn't say "blued". Are the hands painted blue or heat blued? Thanks. I like the white dial one as well.

Nice video Marc, outside of the Japanese companies Patek also puts the deployant on the "wrong" way.
To expand on your point on enamel, if you ever wondered why pocket watches from 1-300 years ago can look minty fresh, where as watch dials from a few decades ago look badly aged and worn out, part of that reason is because those pocket watches used enamel dials.

Wow, the cocktail and strap loooks million dollar. Anyway Mark, I have small wrist and I'm very agree for some people dress watch 40 mm is too large and I think dress watch under 40 mm is more appealing. Would you create some video to show us some great dress watch under 40 mm?

Great video Mark. Quick question, is the Spron material used in the presage SRPB43 or SRPB77? From what I read, one of the difference between the 4R35 and the 6R15 (original sarb065) is the use of spron in the 6R15. Am I having the right information? Thanks

Seiko Presage line... great watches... sold at a decent price point.
Ive seen the srpb41 on a black croco strap and its very gorgeous. it make a good combo with the dial as well as it get darker on the edge

Good timing - I've been eyeing a Presage SARY055 as my next watch. Not a lot of info/reviews out there on that model though. Any impressions on that one?
I had my hand on that one before the video. I thought it just a bit pedestrian for the video, but a great watch nonetheless.

Hi Mark, what is the exact croco strap that you used in the video? The link shows some different colors, and I’m not sure whether you used the “cognac” or the “tan”. Please could you clarify?
Cognac. The tan is a bit "greyer".
Great video as always, Mark! Why do watches with roman numerals typically write the number 4 as "IIII" instead of the correct way of writing it as "IV"?
Because it balances the VIII on the other side of the dial.
Watched this video 3 times. Looked into Hamilton, Tissot, even dreamt about JaegerLeCoultre. Just got the basic Presage with white dial and brown leather strap. What a perfect second watch to my Submariner:-)

Both have same specs. The only difference I notice is the dial: SPB061J1 have the word "Presage" on it while SPB043J1 don't...

What sort of accuracy are people typically getting in practice with the 6R15? I know that Seiko tend to be *very* conservative with what their movements are rated to for whatever reason and they're not a very good indication of actual accuracy (iirc, Seiko rates the 6R15 at +25/-15, or something like that).
Charles Carr on my SARB017 I'm getting between +2 and +4 a day. That's pretty damn good. Being fast is great too because I just reset it by pulling the crown for a few seconds and it's back to official time.
I'm genuinely offended that many of the presage models are not sold in the USA. I may not buy one now, specially since the Swiss don't think they're too good to sell me certain models.
My fav. Was the second one but there is a model with a red #12 that is even more stunning at around 450 thru 600 depending but i have to sell a few things but that is the piece i would buy,, saving up
Yes, the red 12 gives it a nice twist. If anyone wonders the references to check out are SPB039, SARW025 or SARX041.

Those are all nice looking watches. I like the white dial with the Arabic numbers the best, i like the applied seiko logo as well. I do not care for the power reserve indicator, I feel like it cheapens the look of the watch.

@2:45 Not true. Not every Presage has SPRON. The ones that use the lowly 4R35 movement, and there are several, don't have either a SPRON balance or main spring.
Blue was CRYING out for a black strap, i didnt think the brown worked well at all with it.
Superb, so hard to pick a favourite. I'd bet a large percentage of the Cocktail time watch buyers are women or purchasing for women?

Marc, thank you for this video. I am a big fan of the Presage line of watches. Two of the ones you showed are on my list to get. Although the just announced SRPC01 Starlight I am just smitten with. That may move ahead of the line. I also love the SARX041 and the SARG015 (wish they still made that one). Anyway, great video to give a better introduction to the Presage line! Mark.

Can you explain the difference between 6R27 and 6R15? One difference I can see is that the 6R27 beats at a higher frequency based on the smooth motion of the seconds hand.
All 6R movements have the same frequency, 21,600vph (3Hz). The difference between the 6R15 and the 6R27 is the type of complications and their layout. E.g. the 6R15 uses a date disc and a date window, the 6R27 uses a date subdial and it also has the power reserve. This is also the reason why the two movements have different jewel counts.
Where did you source this information? Watch Wiki shows a beat difference: 21, 600 for 6R15 and 28, 800 FOR 6R27.

The blue dial with that brown leather strap is a bad looking combo, the colors just don't fit. I would go with a darker, no texture leather strap
