Fun fact: Sao Paulo and Rio are so influent that basically all Brazilian media services come from there ( major TV networks, shows, music etc). Because of that, most of the cultural content in Brazil is produced in the Sao Paulo and Rio accents, which make these accents the closest of a "standard Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation" that we have. That also means that almost everyone in the country knows SP/Rio slangs and expressions while many people from SP and Rio may not know much about other Brazilian regional slangs

    • @Jolgeable
      @Jolgeable 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm from São Paulo and I know a lot of slang/expressions from other places, maybe because I live on the outskirts, where there are a lot of people from other states. And what other states know about SP is generally what I call São Paulo from TV, which is a small cut taking into account the size of the city. Even the accent that is considered typical of the city is actually an accent typical of wealthy areas. And it is good to remember that São Paulo is called a rich city, but it is a Brazilian city, that is, it is unequal. When TV takes a more elitist approach, it erases most of the city.

Also, Nordeste, where most of the "candangos - workers that built our capital" came from. Minas Gerais and Goiás played a HUGE role when it comes to populate our city. @@tadeua6652 First of all, you should learn that this is not a polite or social accepted way to disagree with someone’s idea or comment, and stop saying this kind of thing in a such wonderful channel like Mr.Beats’.
Also, you should go back to high school to learn how to understand a point or to develop a way to, I don’t know, read and understand correctly what is written above before saying things. The point of comparing cities, countries and regions is to show that even though they are different, there are some things that may bring them together, and others that differentiate each other. That is the beautiful thing about cultures, people, countries and cities: we have a lot of things that look like the same, but our tiny little differences are what keep us unique in the world.
About the ‘third world country’' thing, the tone set by your comment shows that being a third world country is a shame for you. Yes, we have our problems and we are far from perfection, but I don’t take it as a reason to be ashamed by our country or as an insult. Being a Brazilian is the most wonderful thing in the world. Our people grind each day, with happiness and love. We are kind to people, we are always trying to help. We have a mixed country. People from other countries came here to find a place to live and they found a place to love and call home.
And stop writing useless things on the internet, because all of other countries may think that everyone in our country lacks intelligence just like you do. You are just looking like a fool, or maybe you are one.
P.S: Sorry, Mr. Beats, for this little discussion. I just can’t stand people talking negative or pejorative things about my beloved land.

To answer your question, both are great but Rio in my opinion is better, provided you can live in a decent area near the beach. São Paulo is a concrete jungle and the nearest beach is at least 45min away. However, I do miss the street art and the amazing food. In the end, it depends on which type of city you prefer. If your preference is to live in a city like Miami, then Rio is where you want to go; if the hustle and bustle of New York City is what you crave, then there's no better place than São Paulo. Thanks again for making this...valeu amigo!

    Something important to consider:
Samba and Carnival, although known throughout the country, is a regional culture of Rio de Janeiro, not São Paulo.
São Paulo's traditional music is caipira music(congado, rasqueado, cateretê, catira, moda de viola, folia de reis)
São Paulo does not have such a strong African heritage, we have our own African rhythms, such as "congado and mozambique" that also mix indigenous elements in their rhythms, our traditional carnival, as in the city of "São Luiz do Paraitinga" has different rhythms from that of Rio de Janeiro, fitting the "caipira culture".
Our cultural heritage is a mix of Portuguese, Spanish, indigenous with a small portion of Africa.
While Rio de Janeiro is basically Portuguese and African.
Although close we are very different from each other, despite some common origins.
We have different thoughts, different ancestry
    , different culture.
Paulistas are more provincial than Rio, who have more appreciation for Brazil than São Paulo
So much so that I consider that we are distinct nations within a country.
Join my channel, I spread a little of the culture and traditional identity of São Paulo

São Paulo is the biggest city in the southern hemisphere. What city would be bigger if it was the second? And so Rio is the third, no the fourth.
I believe that mentioning the production of soap operas and extraction of petroleum down the sea as some of the most important activities in Rio would be interesting, as well showing the more modern areas of São Paulo, since you only showed old areas of the city in the images.
