Chinese People are Super Friendly

  • I am going to prove to you that Chinese people are super friendly, I've always maintained that Chinese people are by far and in large very friendly and hospitable, however if you read my comments section you would be excused for thinking that they're horrible, disgusting xenophobic racists. This is true only for the 50cent keyboard warriors and the ultranationalistic over sensitive homebodies who suffer from a lack of self worth, so let's go out on the street and talk to some real Chinese people and find out if they're friendly or not...

Chinese folks are friendly, last year i moved from south florida to Albany NY, and around the corner from where I live is a Chinese takeout, and the woman who runs the Chinese takeout befriended me, we became quick friends, and I help her out with her children and they love me very much, three months later she says I'm considered family, and she considers me her older brother, and in July I'll be going to fujian with her daughter, and staying at her mother's house, I say a few words to her mother through WeChat, I don't know much Chinese but I say what I can. I'm so grateful that they have befriended me, and taking me in as family, happiest point in my life right now... I can't wait to get too China!

I owe you an apology, I used to think you were a conceded person with a raging ego but I'm starting to see the person behind that. you are very logical with hints of emotion that sometimes makes you look bad but I'm noticing that's just the way you say things, I have this same issue, my voice is very aggressive and my tones don't come out right. anyways I hope you keep on keeping on. watching this channel has really widened my view of the background cultures behind cultures.

serpentza to be honest it's actually not his fault.
It's the south African in him.
My wife is also South African and sometimes people feel they are rude etc.
But in fact it's just the way they talk.
They tend to be very up front and honest about how they see the world.

Started watching your channel almost two years ago. I've watched maybe 95% of all you videos. For a long time I was just speeding through to catch up. Then maybe 6months ago you mentioned something about the haters so I started reading all your comments section. Well!, I couldn't believe all the people who trolled you just to leave a negative comment. Now I knew about some of the negative trolling done on Twitter but there some of your commenters take the cake. I enjoy watching your videos, I enjoy your personality, your perspective, your frankness. Can I be blunt here--I don't give a shit about what anyone else thinks. If they don't like you or your videos then DON'T WATCH! It's that simple. I'll be watching!

In defense of evil uncles ...
I think it's important to have a few intolerant people around. If we view a society as a super-organism, they act a little like our immune system, treating new comers with suspicion, testing them out and putting pressure on an unknown to see if it'll fit or not.
Too much diversity is just as toxic as too little.

That is why carbohydrates that are attached to the surface of the cell membrane of proteins and lipids can serve as recognition signals. Glycolipid focus on cell recognition and glycoproteins focus on cell adhesion. When a glycoprotein recognizes a foreign substance to be a bacteria, it calls the white blood cell as an act of immune system and the white blood cell may kill the bacteria by engulfing the bacteria by phagocytosis and killing it with digestive enzymes.

Loved this video of open interaction with strangers with such positivity. This video resonates with me heaps in how I think anyone should approach another, because as Winston said, if you approach people with a positive attitude meaning a genuine smile on the face, open arms and light but confident tone of voice, even those who speak another language will love you!

Now, many Chinese people may feel they are too friendly to foreigners. Foreigners seem to have a natural privilege, especially white foreigners. An ordinary white foreigner can easily become a star in China everywhere. Actually, this is common in many Eastern Asian countries, even in Japan. Personally, I don't think this is a serious problem. But many Chinese don't think so. For these reason, this video may not appease Chinese nationalists, but provokes them further.

Honestly I really resent the fact that most Chinese people are friendly to foreigners but a little indifferent to their countrymen. Take HongKong, for example, the local residents will respect you if you're a westerner, whilst you will be unfriendly treated if you are from the mainland. Another example is Shanghai where you will be called "redneck" by the locals if you're from out of town. A couple of years ago when I was in HongKong, I witnessed how incredibly friendly a lot of staff were to English-speaking foreign customers in some shopping malls. However, when I asked them in Mandarin something about the item I intended to buy, they even ignored me as if I didn't exist. What a sharp contrast! No offence serpentza but please don't jump to the hasty conclusion that Chinese people are extremely friendly. It really depends on who you are and where you come from.

    • @chentyler4848
      @chentyler4848 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

This is a historical issue. HongKong had been the British colony for almost 100 years untill 1997 when the UK handed it back to China, which has led to the fact that there is a huge difference in culture, lifestyle and values between Hongkongers and the people from the mainland. This might be one of the reasons why both parties still can hardly get along well with one another, and some don't consider themselves Chinese as you said.

This is hilarious, you literally went up and said 'I'm making a video about how friendly Chinese people are, smile and take a video with me!' They loved it, played right into their nationalist hands...
I wonder if they can find a way to spin this one negatively. Big inspiration to my channel mate, cheers!

Winston, in my opinion, you really need to think about why so many Chinese people keep leaving mean comments to your videos. I am Chinese and I have watched a lot of your videos, some of your remarks or opinions in your videos were not true facts of China or Chinese people, those remarks and opinions really made me feel uncomfortable, I also think you are sometimes biased and somehow feel superior to other Chinese people just because of the color of your skin. As a subscriber of your channel, I am telling you what I really think. You have been living in China for over 10 years and your wife is also Chinese, I would like to suggest you to learn some remarks that Confucius said: 吾日三省吾身, it literally means: people need to introspect often. That's all I want to tell you, finally, I hope you enjoy your life in China and look forward to more videos on your channel. All the best!

Here is the difference between our cultures, critical thought. In China many people seem to have an issue with someone criticizing them where in the west we are less collective culturally and thus people are less concerned if someone criticizes the group. We are more individualistic and this much our our egos are personally not collective or national. Neither is right or wrong its just different and something to understand. To flip your argument maybe you should look within to see why any remarks make you feel uncomfortable?

Try to look at those videos relating to US and/or American news and whenever there were negative comments about US, the usual comments were, "If you don't like it here, why don't you leave?"
It doesn't show tolerance for negative comments by most Americans, right?

Hey man I just wanna say that I love your videos and your enthusiasm to show people what China is truly like. I'm actually from Shenzhen, and it's very interesting to see how you approach this city from a different perspective because of the cultural differences. Also, as I decided to move to the US for education in the recent years, I experienced some cultural shocks just like you did when you moved to China. There's always upside and downside to everything, same here in the US, but I always make my best effort to make friends and learn the culture over here. Thus I appreciate that you show China like how it is, without avoiding talking about the negative side of it. I find that you really have some deep experience of Chinese culture and society, which makes your videos more of a real life reflection rather than just stereotypes. Anyway, I'll be going back to Shenzhen soon, and hope that I can encounter you on the street somewhere in Shenzhen. Stay awesome!!^

It was more of a response video rather than an original idea to go out and do this - he was making a point that many Chinese people are ok with him, and he's ok with them
I guess the method was a bit rough, but hey, I enjoyed it all the same. Winston's seems like a genuine guy, sure this might've been a bit forced, but I suppose he just felt it necessary to counter all the people trying to assassinate his character

No, he was approaching random people who he had no connection with to awkwardly stop what they were doing and take a picture with him. Of course they would do it to be polite, that has no bearing on whether or not it was awkward.

I don't ever read the comments because i don't want to see all negative comments you mention sometimes but always try to leave positive comment, especially after i've watched a video and i feel totally awesome because i've found a good person like you doing things i would do if i had all the right factors set up in place (maybe not in China but being a TH-camr is something i would like to do in another country ^^)

Thank you for expressing this; as a foreigner just really learning about Chinese culture for the first time I had actually believed that there was a lot of rudeness in Chinese culture because of your comments sections. But in the video where you went to that small town I got to see that the people you met in the ally were extremely friendly. Later, when I watched Conquering Southern China, I learned they are really, really kind in the countryside. The evil uncles lately have been pretty funny!
