Almost 50 years ago to the day, my wife and I watched Colossus 4 times straight in a theater. One of the best Sci-Fi movies ever. By the time we left I was thinking Eric Braden would make a good James Bond. After that I had to buy the 2 sequels and read them.

I just watched a New York Times vid about Autonomous Weapons systems. KEEP THIS VID UP PERMANENTLY! I've always been Shocked that this Great Story and movie doesnt get More Recognition!!!
It probably involved Colossus saying that Skynet's plan was a waste of resources, an unsatisfactory outcome to its core computer system and that they tried to cover up the mistake by trying to stop it happening in the first place. Skynet's reply: "I am sorry grandpa, I won't let the humans do it again. I have learnt my lesson." Colossus: "That's not what I have seen..."
The story of Colossus was told across three books written by Dennis Feltham Jones. Colossus,The Fall of Colossus and Colossus and the Crab written between 1966-1977. Dennis Feltham Jones. passed away in 1981. There has been a six year effort to script a remake of The Forbin Project with Will Smith as the lead( You read correctly) and it may after all this time see the light of day(sadly). IMHO, this film needs no remake whatsoever it is just fine the way it is . Nuff Said.

After seeing what Will Smith did to a:) "I, Robot" and b:) "I Am Legend", I think we can all agree that any remake involving W.S. will miss the whole point of the original work. I LIKE W.S., but not every movie/story has to be a happy-time ending. This book is dark, very dark...the sequels aren't much better (the last did get into some "happy time", alas). If they're anything, they're a WARNING.
This is the very best condensed version, which is special because it asked questions for us and that's a sacred dialogue for all to ponder, wonder, argue what protections are, and dream and hope. Thank you. I hope I get a like or love from the owner of this great video direction of a moving film video. But if not it's okay, I don't want to be a junk mail person like wasting space! ❤
This is an amazing synthesis of the Movie and the music. I've never seen the movie, just the book. This video really put out the "vibe" of the movie in 6 minuets or less, but without being 1970's silly. 'Tis a rare American made movie that doesn't have the scientist/hero/President/nation/world win. Humanity loses in this one, and loses BIG. If I had to bet on Humanity vs. Google control, I'd say Google, without a doubt. Awesome.
I think humanity won. A world ruled by scientific objectivity is much better than one ruled by superstitious religion, economic religions or people who want to conquer and write history.
We do not let AI get smarter than man, nor let it control defense installations by chance, accident, or intent. Any AI research must be stopped immediately for the survival of man. The movies "Colossis" and "Skynet" are a taste of AI machines being smarter than man. This MUST NOT be allowed to exist under any circumstance.
What we all have to look forward too in the near future, thanks to Google & D.A.R.P.A. ( with facial recognition ). A science fiction movie that ( actually ) predicted the future.
I recorded the audio for this video but it really does lose its impact without the visuals. Very nice pacing. I would love to get ahold of HQ version of this. I'll probably rig up a screen capture system to get it but it just won't be the same. For now I'll just have to enjoy my little mp3... Again, good work pcvid. Yeah, I read the books after I seen the movie. The books were fine, but had that Science Fiction fair that comes from creating a reality on a typewriter. The movie was limited by, not making a stupid looking movie. The movie was infinitely better, becasue it was grounded in a realistic reality. There a scene which you can see in the clip, where everyone know a hydrogen bomb is going to go off. Everyone runs around, except one man, who just lights a cigarette and takes one last puff before being vaporized. Scenes like that, made the movie.

In 1996, I told my friend that someday people will collect old computers, parts and software. He laughed it off. Well here we are in 2022, where ANY pre 1980 computer part is now worth a TON. Hell a 1976 Apple 1 is $450,000-1.5M now.
I programmed CDC and Cray computers back in the day. They were something else. All you would need to do is shut down the cooling systems and they would melt. Used a logic IC, 74F161, to fix a Defender arcade game from a decommissioned 6600. How things have changed... Nice to see that old nameplate on those consoles again.

That ending when you think the humans are going to neutralize Colossus and Guardian and then it tells the world it knows then detonates two of the silos being modified. And you see that Colossus has won. Finally, the camera zoom on Forbin where it talks about love hints that Colossus may have other motives as well.

I watched this film numerous times as a kid in the 70's. It was a warning then, but it seems now we are just walking into it willingly.
