Legend is used too lightly these days, but nobody would argue it with regard to Sir Bobby. I have been a Man Utd fan for 56 years and as a kid I lived through and saw the Best, Law & Charlton years. At the time I thought it was just 'normal football', but looking back it was nigh on magical.

I became a Manchester United fan when I was 11 years old in Iraq in the 80’s. I just loved the team without knowing about its great history and legends then. I remember when the British army was in our city after the Iraq War 2003, I used to speak with the British soldiers from Manchester city about different players and legends of Manchester team.

There will never be another. God bless him. I am am 71 , born in east London, my mother adored Duncan Edwards and Sir Bobby. My boys are named after them. To be named after such legends is an honour for them and they know it. RIP a gentlemen, an icon and the greatest player this country of ours ever produced.

At 57.11, there is the difference between the Colossus that was Bobby Charlton, and today's so called greats...."I never had an injury, I'm 73 and still have all my cartilage"...Because he was that good, nobody could catch him to give him an injury....Never saw him dive, try blag a penalty, roll around on the floor, foul other players, the man is a living legend. Remember this too, Bobby campaigned for better pay for pro players, to the amount of £25 a week, and when the national wage for the public sector was £18 a week. Today the public wage average is around £350, but what do footballers get, how about £550,000 a week. Absolutely ridiculous, like Bobby once said, "All I do is kick a ball around for 90 minutes twice a week. I'd be happy to do it for free".... You wouldn't get one single player today, say that, and that's a shame. Today's game is a poor watered down version of the game from Bobby's era. You'll never ever see the likes of Charlton, Violet, Law, Best, Edwards, Mathews, Milburn, Finney, and others from that time again. Today's show ponies and ballerinas couldn't lace up Charlton's boots.

I recall working as a cleaner at the Metro centre circa 2010 and seeing Bobby turn up in a nice but not overly expensive car to do a book signing .He entered via the back door to to little fuss.Flash back a few months prior and we have Katy Price surrounded by security ,hangers on and the place is packed out.Speaks volumes about our values. But I doubt this truly great man would have any other way!

I know it was 4yrs ago,but it makes no difference if it was 40 yrs ago..All.of what u said,is absolutely true..And after the Bosman ruling in 1995 it all went Pear shaped&got f##ked up..And it makes me cringe when they ask could these players Charlton,Law,Best(And Man City had Bell,Lee and Summerby)play and were they good enough to be as successful in this so called 'Modern game'? When the really pertinent question is,could today's players have played and coped with playing back in Bobby's day? And the answer (& it doesn't require a great deal of thought) is no!..
And I no longer live in the UK(London &I'm long suffering Spurs fan&they ask the same question about Jimmy Greaves, which is so ridiculous it's beyond belief!).And to be honest my interest in football is mostly for yrs gone by,today's BS naturally fails to excite for any real length!!

I was a young teenager when Bobby Charlton was in his pomp . No TV coverage to speak of. Black and white match of the day started in around 1965. And, although I've never been a serious Man U fan,to be fair, they were the only game in town. Best, Charlton and law used to add 10,000 to the gates home gates when they rolled up. In all my years watching football I've never ever come across a player with a powerful booming shot in both feet. Never. He was deceptively quick. Great acceleration. He'd have had no problem adapting to the high pressing mid field role of today. In his day,he was supremely fit. With Best Charlton and law it was a golden era, not just for man U, but they cast their stardust over the whole game in this country. And,in all his time , amazingly,he was never seriously injured. What a legecy of spectacular, brilliant goals for club and country he's bequeathed us. Absolutely brilliant.

A gentleman , a legend and a truly perfect footballer , only Pele can compare with this man. His career is remarkable , the air crash , and all the things he won makes his whole life like a boy comic book story . One day they will make a film of his life but even that could never truly reflect the drama this man has provided us with . Sir Bobby Charlton is as famous as the very game itself

    • @oleggorky906
      @oleggorky906 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@cliveuuking4602 Maybe he wasn’t. But then, how many people alive ever saw Duncan play? We don’t even have a lot in the way of footage either, televised sport still being in its infancy in 1958.
Also, we have no way of knowing that if Duncan had lived whether or not he would have maintained his early level of form over an entire career; players often lose form after bad injuries or because of personal problems in their life.
What we can say of Bobby is that eight years after he made his England debut, he was still good enough to play for his country and win a World Cup winners medal, one of only 11 Englishmen ever to play in a final. He maintained form and fitness for a very long time and was a great ambassador for both club and country. As such, Bobby deserves his plaudits.
I’m not claiming that Bobby was the greatest ever. But by common consent amongst a wide section of his fellow pro’s, as well as assent from the public, in this country and others, he is recognised as one of our most distinguished footballers. And rightly so.
And that is not meant as a detriment to Duncan or any other player.

We all know how beautifull the game of football is. Lovers of the game can easily name a couple of players that are the epitamy of quality and beauty. The one name that surely is on that list is of sir Bobby Charlton. I am too young to have seen him play the game, but looking at these footages I am convinced that he is among the best of the game, ever!!! What amazes me the most is his space awareness on the pitch, where to be at the right moment, furthermore his left and right footed shot power, these goals are simply the best distance goals, touching the back of the net in a straight line!!!

I went to a game at Stoke with my dad and Uncle when Liverpool was in the 2nd division I'm not sure of the year, I was in short trousers (now 77). My dad was a Red ( A blot on the family). On the way home we had to change trains at Crewe, at about 1-o-clock in the morning, Imagine the surprise for me as a kid, on the same platform waiting for the Manchester connection was Sir Bobby Charlton, Eddy Hopkinson (Sheff Utd ) & Ronnie Clayton (Blackburn Rovers) who spent about 1/2 hour talking to my dad & uncle with me just standing with my gob hanging in wonderment. I seem to remember they were coming back from an England game. Imagine today Players of that stature standing on a platform in Crewe at One thirty in the morning waiting for a train

I was just a kid at the time when I heard about the Munich air disaster on the radio and was shocked.
The tragic news about Manchester United left its mark.
Many years later I was in the Royal Navy at HMS Dryad in the Hills behind Portsmouth doing a stint between seagoing ships and the Phys Ed guy got access to tickets for the European Cup Final to be played at Wembley. I got two tickets and went with my friend Harry from Manchester! Are you still around Harry? What a match!
Sir Bobby Charlton is indeed a legend.

To play today and still not get half as good as Bobby Charleton they need a lighter ball and lightweight boots. But the players of those days where real footballers with their hearts in the game and not in the pay packet. Players like this are as rare as dinosaur teeth.
