Good lord are you people ever gonna stop harping on him for that one rusted rim? I mean the dude just had to spend a crap ton of money to put a new clutch and flywheel in the truck I think he deserves first off a cold drink and second of all some time to make some money to offset what he just spent

Man i know from experience that is a lot of work but i miss doing stuff like that and engine work on big trucks. Love to see a guy that loves his truck and put that much love into it no matter what it takes. Keep up the awesome videos brother. Cant wait to see our buddy Orwell back to work.

Another big advantage to having a cabover, doing transmission and clutch work! I’ve done many laying under conventional trucks over the years, not always a fun time! I realize it can still be a fight, but accessibility from up top is nice.

My hands and arms hurt watching you, power tools, pneumatic ratchet to run the bolts, then hand to final torque, Years of wrenching myself, I’ve finally gotten away from the pneumatic tools and went cordless, it’s so freeing (and a lot quieter) Good job and glad it went back together well.

I missed most of the "live" event , (which wasn't technically live, b/c I saw the short last night of Orwell finished). Sorry that you had to go through this additional work.
I much prefer when the issue is apparent. Order parts, replace them, job done! Problem fixed & Orwell got a bunch of PM as well! Never told us what ya did about that drive tire that got cut/punctured.
    Good job, Steve.

I like the rusty wheel. It gives the 'old' truck more character. Most other old trucks have been glammed up, cookie-cutter style, to look like every other truck on the road. It's boring to go to a truck show and see every truck dressed up with the same stainless parts, same melon lights. Orwell has a style all his own that money can't buy; he's earned it.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Ok, Dude! You looked like that truck was working YOU over instead of you working it over! That’s the way it is with any big truck…no fun unless you wear it from head to toe! I have never seen the ring gear break like that! Let’s claim it on defective Chinesium parts! I sure was a grunting for ya!! That’s truly a 2 Man job! I liked the yellow marking of the bolts. Learned that trick long ago. Hope that the test drive proved everything in order & ready to roll! That’s one way to enjoy the fruits of your labor! That was enough work to get done in 3 days & by yourself mostly! Don’t worry about the rusty wheels man! Time to get trucking now! You’re probably in Michigan now. Enjoy, my friend! Blessings! 🤩🥰✌️

Had a 9 speed break a main shaft in 97 by the time i limped her home clutch and flywheel were pretty much smoked but getting it towed 900 miles back to the yard wasn't an option and the boss had the replacement transmission and other parts at the yard. He said you get her home I'll pay you what the tow bill would have been. Next week i had a 4k check.

Hey Steve. First, nice job on the clutch and flywheel; I know what it feels like when you go to do a simple adjustment, and something breaks. It sucks.
However, as you'll be in my neck of the woods for the Michigan Southern Truck, Trains, 'n More" event, I'll try to catch you this weekend! I know my nephew would love seeing Orwell, and my niece and nephew live right down the street from the Adrian & Blissfield Railroad line as it runs through town, so seeing the trains would be cool as well.
Hope to see you this weekend, Steve. Looking forward to meeting you and Orwell!

Nice Al Jolson imitation Steve. Hope the clutch pucks were sinitered metal and not an organic clutch. Breathing that crap isn't good on the lungs.
Those ring gears are easy to replace once you've done a couple. Heat the ring gear to 400-450F for 30-45 minutes, then quickly drop on the flywheel and watch the ring gear shrink. There's a couple thousands of an inch interference. Removing them is much easier using liquid nitrogen.
You might want to make some partially threaded bolts to use as studs for clutch and transmission work.

Steve used an engine hoist, aka a cherry picker, to lift the old parts out and put the new parts in. If you look carefully, at least on the flywheel, he used a bolt and nut to hold them once he got them loose.
