Aer Flight Pack Review | Small Carry-On Travel Backpack (23L) for Work & Flight

  • Though a bit smaller, the professional design, organization, and versatility of the Aer Flight Pack make it optimal for shorter trips and urban travel. View Our Full Review: packhacker.com...
    The little brother of the Aer Travel Pack we reviewed a few months back, the Aer Flight Pack was designed with the work traveler in mind. This pack shouldn’t be your go-to for long-haul travel, but it’s a great choice for short trips and the everyday backpack user who doesn’t like trudging through cities looking like a college freshman (unless you are one, in that case, stay in school).
    This bag means business-literally. The slick low-profile design is arguably formal enough for professional meetings, but informal enough to use on a daily basis. In addition to the sleek look it gives off, the water-resistant Cordura® ballistic nylon is incredibly durable. Also durable are the water-resistant YKK zippers on the outside of the pack. You won’t be able to leave this sucker out in the rain for an extended amount of time but, if it’s zipped up tight, it’ll keep your belongings dry while you hustle to the nearest overhang.
    Let’s talk size. This bag notches in at 12.5” x 19” x 5.5” (32 x 38 x 14 cm), 2.9 lbs (1.32 kg), with a 23.6L capacity. It’s a great size for weaving through the airport and will stow nicely below most plane seats-with a name like flight pack, it better.

    SHOW NOTES:
    In this video, Tom Wahlin of Pack Hacker reviews the Aer / Aersf Flight Pack. This small carry on travel backpack pairs with another backpack or roller luggage. This durable and good looking work & flight pack is well suited for someone needing a little extra room-or it’s suited to a minimal, ultralight traveling digital nomad.

    Would it fit a pair of runners in main compartment too? Runner on business trip! 1-2 shirts, underwear, running gear and running shoes, plus notebook etc.

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey IronTiti - the Aer Flight Pack is almost 5L bigger than the Aer Flight Pack 2, so you've got a little bit of extra space. So, depending on how minimal your running shoes are, all of these items should fit into this pack. You can also check out the newer version of this pack here packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/flight-pack-2/
      Hope this helps! 👍

      Pack Hacker thanks, but flight pack 1 not available anymore... boo! Normal running shoes, not minimalist ones.

    The title says 23L but on the aer site it says 19 Liters?

    Such a great review and its a bag i keep coming back to for a possible purchase. My question is how does it feel fully packed out? It was hard to tell in the video how fully you pack the bag. IE does it carry some EDC and a jacket or can you fill it with 1-3 overnight trip?

      Hey Logan! It all depends what you're looking to pack. We know digital nomads who have lived out of this bag exclusively for 1 year+.

    • @PackHacker

      Hey 1234 5678! We're mostly focused on travel gear, bags, and accessories on this channel. Those two packs look excellent though, and maybe we'll consider the day pack if it's travel-focused enough.

    I’ve been looking for the right combo pack to use on all my international flights. I fly all over the world and think the Aer pack may be the one with the size and versatility required to fit my needs. Do they come in other colors or sizes and what is the price point?

    • @PackHacker

      Nice! Only black at this point, but they do have a couple other bags in grey: packha.kr/kgnq - for a bigger size, check out the Aer Travel Pack: th-cam.com/video/i6FqjCkPsuQ/w-d-xo.html

    Would you be able to recommend a good rain cover for this bag? it pretty much checks all the other boxes for me and would love to get it, I just need a rain cover. I unfortunately learned my lesson the hard way last year. lol

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey stvsueoka1! It's always a bummer learning a lesson with soaked gear :)
      We don't have any specific rain covers we've tested with this pack because we tend to stay out of the rain with it (whenever possible). We did just add the dimensions to our full review in the product data section: packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/flight-pack/
      You're looking at 19 in x 12.5 in x 5.5 in (48.3 x 31.8 x 14 cm). Maybe these dimensions could help you find a rain fly that will fit well? Good luck!

      I actually have since emailed AER and asked if they had a recommended rain cover and they confirmed that they didn't have one that they made specifically for this bag, but they pointed me to this one on Amazon -> www.amazon.com/Orange-Sport-Ultralight-Cellphone-Waterproof/dp/B01M8QGTYB/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1514516212&sr=8-4&keywords=waterproof%2Bbackpack%2Bcover&th=1 Pretty cool of them to take the time to do this for a potential customer. I'm going to purchase both the Flight pack and this rain cover now. :)

      Hey Babs - we found that carry-on specifications differ between airlines, so we always recommend checking with the individual airline that you're flying with. Hope this helps! 👍

    Aer travel backpack or Black ember backpack, which is better?

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bluesky-both are solid packs that have some different characteristics so it's hard to say which one is "better" as it depends on what you're looking for! For example, if you're a fan of modularity then the Black Ember is a solid choice! The Aer Travel Pack 2 is a great pack as well, Tom is even using it on an upcoming month-long adventure abroad. Hope this helps!

    Hi I just watched your video (Nice Job)....I'm 52 year old guy who has never carried a backpack...ever. To me they are for "the younger crowd". Students and twenty-somethings...my wife feels that I could pull it off if I carried one. What says the expert in this area? Would I get some funny looks at my age? thanks so much.

      Hey MTobin1000- awesome that you're taking an interest in packs! We don't think packs have an age limit. Any pack you're particularly interested in? Happy to help you out more here!

    Great bag, but loud clanging zippers.

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally Mike - they're a little jangly! It is possible to cut the pull portion of the zipper off and replace with paracord (or similar) pulls if that's your thing. We might try to experiment with that soon.

    Thanks for a nice video. Based on your experience, how many days stuff can fit into Aer Flight Pack? Thanks.

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how and what you pack! We've found that you're able to fit in 3 of the small sized "Pack-It Specter Cubes" comfortably: packhacker.com/travel-gear/eagle-creek/pack-it-specter-cubes/
      Ideal for shorter trips - or - if you're a super minimalist.
