I have some thoughts about this track, specifically about the title. A confusion so thick you forget forgetting. You only know you've forgotten something because subconsciously you know there was something to be remembered. If you forget forgetting, there was nothing to be remembered in the first place; you've forgotten that there was something to be forgotten.
This "song" is probably the most unerving song I've heard in a while, for the main reason it feels with the grain/fire it feels like a 1933 vinyl but it seems like something that would be made out of a horror game.
In psychology there is a memory problem that says "forgetting will never be painful, forgetting that you forget is", probably the title refers to this If you forget your wife's name, you know that you lack that information, that way it becomes dormant information that you can retrieve by asking. But if you forget that you have a wife, you cannot just ask if you have one, it is not normal, you will simply live thinking that you do not have a wife and that is when it becomes a problem, it becomes a burning memory. The piano notes that sometimes play make me think of a part in a documentaire about dementia made by Louis Theroux. There was a man whose mother lived in an institution for people with the illness, and she walked around like a zombie. The guy was shown to feel very lucky and happy when he got a moment of short reaction to him when he was talking to her. So heartbreaking to see what people with lives turn into and how living with a person turns into feeling lucky when that same person has a small reaction to you. It also featured a couple that had decided that if they would get dementia they would euthanize as soon as possible, but when the wife got it in her 50-60’s she didn’t want it anymore because she “loved her grandkids”. It was absolutely shattering.
This is just depressing, remember that this is what the person can remember, just this mess, he is just a husk of what he was, doomed to a death of horror and gloom.
to be honest, if this is what they remembered then the memory is dead, and the moment the memory dies, 2 things die that moment, the dementia victim and the memory, they dont know their identity, or family, or what they even are, they are stuck in a loop of confusion not knowing anything about themselves, a husk of a person who used to be a person, now they are a jombled mess of confusion and not really a person.
I really love how N1 appears randomly in this song because it gives you the feeling to know that the last thing you tried to remember is what you have just finished forgetting.
I forget sometimes how horrific this is. Stages 4 and 5 were loud, violent static. This is just...it's just *nothing* by comparison. Pure, endless nothing.
If you listen, VERY closely, and speed this song up, you can faintly hear Heartaches. This is what's left. Memories stretched so thin you can only remember... anything... other than what is in front of you at the very end of your time on this earth.
The realization of nothing, the same feeling when its dead quiet. Nothing more fearful than the fact we could all be forgotten and the only thing left could be such an album with complexity, such art that might be tossed aside as trash. Because of forgetting, forgetting true art.

14:38 I know its only two notes, but that is one of the most eerie parts of this whole project for me. They just sound so desolate, like a piano playing in an empty world.
Those two notes might be what remains of the 'Empty Bliss Beyond this World Track' in the 'An Empty Bliss Beyond this World' Album. That track become a droning piece at the album's end.
The color of the background is what I picture of a derelict/abandoned home that once contained all the memories of what the man had. Now he has nothing, he can't really do anything. All he could do is sit in his living room all alone and feeling hopeless....
Oh wow. I've come to realize that "Synapse Retrogenesis" is audible in the last few minutes. I can even hear the droning noises from "Mournful Camaraderie" itself at times, which were already somewhat obscured in SR..
2012. Nothing. There is nothing left. All awareness or memories you may of clinged onto up to this point are now nonexistent. There is, literally, just the void. Thats the only thing you can explore now, because thats all that is left. Your brain has shut down, all you can hear is wind through a tunnel, all you can see is darkness, there is no more delay when you touch something, because you can’t even remember if there was anything to be touched. You can’t remember there was something to be remembered. You’ve gone practically to the floor, but the decline can still go further.
Well since dementia destroys the brain you’ll lose your senses too, or at least your brain won’t be able to make sense of them. Not beacuse you don’t know what they are, beacuse they can’t be turned into ‘noise’, ‘sight’ and so on. Nor can you even think. You would have lost that ability by the end of stage 5.
It also uses “Internal Bewildered World” (Ii Trovatore by Ferruccio Giannini) and “Things that are beautiful and transient” (The waltz you saved for me).
