- Hen-tenna is a rectangular loop antenna (of Japanese origin) that hangs vertically but, surprisingly, is horizontally polarised. It is simple, compact and offers over 3dBd gain broadside. It is quite broad in its resonance, mine was under 1.3:1 from 144 to 146MHz. This video shows a version being made for 2m SSB, and a field test.

Thanks to this video, I just made a hentenna for 4m using the calculator. Bloody brilliant, calculator measurements work precisely. 1.1 SWR on 70.400 after tuning. Goint to build one for 2m, and might experiment with 70cm. Thanks!
Excellent Tiggy, happy that it worked as well for you as it did for me. I think these loop antennas are relatively forgiving, and they are fairly broad. The 70cm hentenna should be nice and compact. Enjoy your hentenna, thanks for trying it out.

Has anyone tried a Hentenna?
I want to build a hentenna - for 17m. A question. Does the tap at 1/10th the wavelength work perfecty? How long should I make the uninsulated area to get optimal SWR? Thanks !
@@dl6urk88 I've only made one, for 2m. It will scale to any ham band, just use the calculator. I'm not sure how much movement up and down you will need on 17m, try it out and let us know.
