@Asim Ayyubi just for u to know i own 3 Italian cars that are made by fiat. they all run perfect like the day i bought them. none of them had any electrical issue or a mechanical problem . the cost of maintenance is almost nothing . i think i will stick with fiat.
They are selling just the limited pre launch editions for now... which are loaded with kit like leather and things so thats why it costs so much. The basic price with government incentives here in Italy will be 19000 euros by the beginning of 2021... if you count the fact that it costs virtually nothing to drive it it is like buying a petrol powered car for 13-14000€... which is the starting price of the old 500. Considering the fact that it charges very quickly, 5 min for every 50km, I think it will revolutionize italian motoring in a way by replacing a LOT of petrol powered cars in urban areas.
There are also a lot of women with a successful career out there who have a sense of style and who want to drive electric. There aren't many cars out there for them to buy yet.
I strangely like this new 500 My mum had a 2015 pop model. She swapped it for a 2019 Fiat Tipo easy trim because of the extra boot space and the extra middle seat

Here in California the 500e was launched as an emissions "compliance" car in 2013. I liked the look and needed motorized shopping cart. So I picked up a used Orange 2013 500e with the white interior a year ago as a local runabout for $5000 - it did have 70K miles on it but with the 10 year battery warranty I figured I'm good for a while. Incidentally, I noticed the max range has degraded a little from new but I can still reliably push it to about 80 miles of mixed speed driving. We are an all-electric household with a newer 250 mile range Chevy Bolt for our road trips. Looks like pricey EVs are going to be a hard sell for a while as long as the low petrol prices and eliminated commutes persist at least.

So, besides in real life use may be different, all those are useful to compare with other electrical vehicles. As an Italian, I understands why FIAT doesn't put gesture control in their infotainments. We would have thousands of false positives while "normally" driving about, and (let's be honest) we cannot do technology. The guy in the Panda cuts you off? "Che cazzo fai?" and the volume goes up a notch. You see a friend at a bar? "Ciao Giuseppe!" and the heater comes on. You are talking with your friend in the car? Yeah, so the Fiat 500 and 500e has been discontinued in the USA, although with the Covid pandemic, they may not have sold out all the inventory. Only the larger 500L and 500X models are now sold in America.
We've had La Prima for about 6 weeks now, but....Been back at dealer for 2 periods of 4 days. AC compressor faulty, this has now gone wrong again, sounds like a small tractor. The brakes squeek each time you come to a stop. We've had warning lights about low tyre pressures, audio failure warning. Radio won't turn off, pedestrian warning sound is barely audible. LCD display has a delay that is annoying about 3 seconds. We should not have purchased this vehicle.

Something tells me this isn’t coming to the US. There isn’t much of a market for sub subcompacts here, but this is the right idea for electric cars. Small = light = efficient. Big, heavy, full size cars are not a good fit for electrification. I hope more manufacturers realize that. Batteries are limited and rather dirty to make. Making a lot of small EV’s or PHEVs with smaller batteries is a much smarter move than making one big Model S. Electric cars are best suited to being city runabouts, not long range highway cruisers. Save that for hydrogen

Great review Mat! I was a little disappointed when I first saw pics at how similar it was to the previous 500; however now I see the subtle and clever differences and think it looks great. I think its main rivals will be the Honda E and the Mini E, but this is definitely my favourite, looking fwd to test driving it.

The Mini looks waaay better and for less price, that would be my choice for a City car. I would never leave town with an electric car because I like to know how I'm getting home once I've reached there. Electric cars need a range extender, that's the long and short of it. Hybrids would be my choice of cars, and Toyota has shown how good and practical they can be. So for Cities like London that have become so picky about these things, its perfect for getting around on electric-only (pollute someone else's environment and suffer 20% line loss to bring the electricity to you in the city), and then you always have the pollute me on the spot internal combustion ( preferably with a turbo), for getting anywhere without the worry.

One thing they could've done is make the 500e rear wheel drive and make a frunk as a call back to the OG 500. Not sure if the handling characteristics of a short wheelbase, rear drive electric car is benign enough for most drivers though.

Looks like pricey EVs are going to be a hard sell for a while as long as the low petrol prices and eliminated commutes persist at least.

Regarding the values on electric performance, you must remember that all those values are obtained from homologation and certification tests, which are the same for all the electric vehicles. So, besides in real life use may be different, all those are useful to compare with other electrical vehicles.
Personally, I think it’s autonomy is very acceptable, and yet better the time it takes to recharge (outstanding).
Regarding costs... mmmm.

We would have thousands of false positives while "normally" driving about, and (let's be honest) we cannot do technology.
The guy in the Panda cuts you off? "Che cazzo fai?" and the volume goes up a notch.
You see a friend at a bar? "Ciao Giuseppe!" and the heater comes on.
You are talking with your friend in the car? "Oh mamma mia" and you turn on all the foglights.

Yeah, so the Fiat 500 and 500e has been discontinued in the USA, although with the Covid pandemic, they may not have sold out all the inventory. Only the larger 500L and 500X models are now sold in America.
We've had La Prima for about 6 weeks now, but....Been back at dealer for 2 periods of 4 days. AC compressor faulty, this has now gone wrong again, sounds like a small tractor. The brakes squeek each time you come to a stop. We've had warning lights about low tyre pressures, audio failure warning. Radio won't turn off, pedestrian warning sound is barely audible. LCD display has a delay that is annoying about 3 seconds. We should not have purchased this vehicle.

@@VolvoMetal well i honestly need to say that you're wrong, my family drove fiat and mercedes for ages, and both of them were on the same "reliability level" for us... and yes, some models have their quirks and problems but they allways are such minor things that you wouldn't even care, especially the panda and the punto that we owned were really good and still are

Something tells me this isn’t coming to the US. There isn’t much of a market for sub subcompacts here, but this is the right idea for electric cars. Small = light = efficient. Big, heavy, full size cars are not a good fit for electrification. I hope more manufacturers realize that. Batteries are limited and rather dirty to make. Making a lot of small EV’s or PHEVs with smaller batteries is a much smarter move than making one big Model S. Electric cars are best suited to being city runabouts, not long range highway cruisers. Save that for hydrogen

Great review Mat! I was a little disappointed when I first saw pics at how similar it was to the previous 500; however now I see the subtle and clever differences and think it looks great. I think its main rivals will be the Honda E and the Mini E, but this is definitely my favourite, looking fwd to test driving it.

The Mini looks waaay better and for less price, that would be my choice for a City car. I would never leave town with an electric car because I like to know how I'm getting home once I've reached there. Electric cars need a range extender, that's the long and short of it. Hybrids would be my choice of cars, and Toyota has shown how good and practical they can be. So for Cities like London that have become so picky about these things, its perfect for getting around on electric-only (pollute someone else's environment and suffer 20% line loss to bring the electricity to you in the city), and then you always have the pollute me on the spot internal combustion ( preferably with a turbo), for getting anywhere without the worry.

The automatic breaking system when you ease of the throttle is sick...geniunly it makes you feel sick

One thing they could've done is make the 500e rear wheel drive and make a frunk as a call back to the OG 500. Not sure if the handling characteristics of a short wheelbase, rear drive electric car is benign enough for most drivers though.
I love the abarth version and I would love to have one when I can drive.
