The door behind Anthy has a few lines which call back to the shape of the coffin in the series.

Wonderful analysis as usual ! The parallel with Machiaveli’s _The Prince_ is obvious now that you point it out, yet because we usually associate Utena with fairytales we don’t always think about the real, political “prince”. It’s really a testament to the greatness of this movie that we’re still talking about it 20 years later ! I am currently rewatching the SK Utena series, and when I’m done I’ll rewatch the movie of course. On a sidenote, when I first watched Adolescence more than 5 years ago, I had only seen the first episode of the series. The only videos of the movie itself I could find on TH-cam were in Japanese with Spanish subs, so I literally didn’t understand any dialogue at the time (I still hadn’t started studying Spanish). But I think that the movie stuck even more with me, _because_ I couldn’t get what the characters were saying. I was mesmerized by the overall direction (even though I wasn’t aware of it). Had it been _any_ other anime I’d have stopped watching after 5 minutes. Yet I stuck through the whole 100 minutes ! Rant over :)

I saw the spanish sub of the movie on youtube too. Is awsome they have that one there. This movie is worth every penny and time.

I think that the bridge is also meant to mirror the fencing arena from earlier, since fencing is done on a narrow strip. Juri is in control for the majority of this fight, and the fencing arena has been previously established as her domain.

Late note. Utena's script heavily associated with Saito Chiho via Be-Papas. Chiho was drawn a historical josei manga about the Borgia. Analogy is on point.

I really love your analysis! It gives me so much to think of it! And yeah, I felt both the Utena Anime and movie was social commentary!

Welcome back and thanks for keeping up the great work! I am a big fan of utena and read a ton about it. I almost know all episodes by heart. But there's this central part of the anime/ movie that I don't get. The power to revolutionize the world: what is it exactly? The power to grow from a child to adult? Then why are anthy and akio plotting to get it back ? I got lost in translation with that concept. We talk so much about the power to revolutionize the world that.... I think we completely forget to really define it.
And I feel I am missing that important puzzle piece.
Regarding this episode, I think the fight between utena and yuri feels like the fencing Olympics: a corridor to fight, the stage high up.... it's a big show for all to see. Regarding Shiori, she is the only character that was designed with a different uniform than the other regular students: she has added lace. She is marked from the beginning as vain and egocentric : "girls are supposed to wear frilly uniforms " said a teacher in utena episode 1 : she tries to glamorize herself, has sexual relations and paints her nails red. All that is what society expects of girls and women: it will lead to her downfall. I never compared her to anthy, but to utena : she manipulates someone else to fight her battles. She is the real witch

We will absolutely talk about the power to revolutionize the world, something that I thought about touching this episode but I want to address when we see the castle of eternity on the highway.
