    Life was better and people were friendly back in the 90s and into the early 2000s. People went outside and did things, not glued to their electronic devices. Once social media and cell phones started showing up, life changed for the worse.

    Marshall Field's on State Street in downtown Chicago! This for me was Christmas growing up in Chicago - My family had moved to Skokie in 1989, I imagine in 1990 I was among the crowd of excited children who would look in the windows at the animated figures telling stories before my family went inside and enjoyed the shopping and decorations, including the massive tree in the middle of the building that you could see from all floors of the store. The pinnacle of the visit was dinner in the Walnut Room. What a rare treat to get to see footage of it here, this was such a precious part of my childhood and one of the reasons I still treasure the Christmas season to this day. Thank you so much for sharing this.

    • @AurumUsagi
      @AurumUsagi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatjpwing The Nixdorf POS2000 was noted for its distinctive modular design, which won the iF Design Award back in 1990. In the UK, the largest user of this system was Tesco, who chose the POS2000 for their 'scannerisation' (adoption of EAN/UPC barcodes) in the late 80s-early 90s. A handful of other retailers used them, particularly Savacentre, who used them up until Sainsbury's replaced them with NCRs, when they began to roll them out following a successful pilot in 1997. Though this video is the first time I've seen a POS2000 with a CRT, given that most I can recall in my childhood only had VFD display poles and keyboards with integrated dot matrix displays and card swipers, seeing as most users here were supermarkets, not department stores, where NCR 7052s and IBM 4683s dominated.

Those of you who constantly complain about how things are so much worse today than "back in the day", are really missing out on the beautiful and new experiences that are out in the world. Quit experiencing life with the negative expectations because you'll find it. Hope you all find experiences that will provide that nostalgia you're looking for, but every day after.
