- In this video I meet up with my friend Rich for an overnighter on a hill above Dovedale, a #MicroAdventure style trip. we met up at Ilam and had a great walk through Dovedale to Milldale and then went for a few beverages at the George Inn at Alstonefield while we waited for the day walking crowds to disperse. At around we 8pm we made our way back to Dovedale and found a fantastic little spot overlooking the dale itself. A great night was had and we awoke to a fantastic display of cloud and mist rolling around down in the valley. After a sharp descent back down we crossed the River Dove (wet feet) before heading back to the cars and off to work.

All music by Dean Read. Footage shot with a Canon 550D with an 18-55mm Lens, the night footage and timeless were shot on an iPhone 6 Plus and it was all edited in iMovie
Reminds me of garden camping in wythenshaw. Except we didn't have all the fancy gear.
Excellent spot ! Loved the cloudy misty a.m time-lapse. Take care & all the best, Neil.
It really was a great spot, a little bit tricky to get to but well worth the effort. Thanks for watching Neil
Your videos are awesome mate I'm from Sheffield and love walking and camping mainly round ladybower but you have inspired me to go for other locations now. Your knowledge of the peaks is amazing thank you for sharing 👍
Great micro adventure. Nice spot & shots / time lapses. LOL your stove - brings a new meaning to "rolling boil" haha. Your walks are a great inspiration. Thanks.
Lovely relaxing video. It makes me dream. Thank you so much for posting.
+Nicola Joyce Thank you for watching Nicola
My area and the most amazing music. Very nice video.
Thanks for watching
Nice one Dean .... ta.
Thanks for watching Paul
What a stunning location Dean,,, and brilliant time laps, good watch as always many many thanks ,,,,
Thanks for watching Alan, it was a really great trip out. Awesome views and the cloud in the morning was a great sight to behold.
What a great bivy spot, and got a nice smile from the pot retrieval effort. The George looks like a nice place to bend the elbow -- a bit more polished than the Quiet Woman over by Buxton (okay, that's one of only two Peak District pubs I've been to, so I had to mention it). This was a really nice ramble to see.
Thanks for watching, I really enjoyed this one. I hadn't been to the George before and it's always good to tick off a new one :-) my cooking pot has a nice dent in it now so it will serve as a nice reminder of this night
Awesome camp .. enjoyed vid ... cheers chris & sam
Lovely lovely spot Dean and nicely set up. Some good kit there from your mate. The tarps a bit small but with a bivvy bag alright no doubt. And back to that spot and view. Amazingly peaceful and beautiful. Nice crossing - and as you say good on the ranger for keeping it all clean. Great video. ATB Mark
Loved this one, it's definitely up there in my top 5 camps I think. Great views, great company and great weather conditions. Thanks for watching Mark
Pleasure as always. Look forward to next interesting zone you get into. ATB Mark.
WyeExplorer Next interesting zone that i'll be uploading a video from is the land of plenty aka Australia. heading off there tomorrow :-) really excited
Ah wow. You have to seek out family and the most amazing places. Perhaps the Australian Alps as well as the desert. or what about the tropical forests. Not sure where you are but have a great time Dean. Mark
A cracking spot you found there mate.. Stunning morning mist time lapse..
I never realised before that you link your routes... Brilliant mate... I will be retracing your steps with a colleague who wants to experience wild camping..
Just gotta find that tree!!!!.. Not ideal for sleep walkers thought..!!!
ATB - Marcus
+Woodsman ocD86 Hi Marcus, thanks for watching mate. It's a really great spot, I'd been eyeing it up for a few years so was very happy when we made it up there. It's a little tricky to get to but well worth it. I had an email from a guy who lost his brand new sleeping bag which rolled down the hill... Definitely not for sleep walkers :-) ATB, Dean
Awesome location, thanks for uploading
Thanks for watching
I watched this video last year which made me want to get out and wild camp so I drove up to the peaks and found my way up to that spot you camped (minus crossing the river) and the view was spectacular. It did start raining in the night and a corner of my tarp unpegged itself, but that's all part of the experience!
Anyway thank you for the video, it inspired me to get out more and I'll be doing more wild camps in future.
Thanks for watching Henry, I'm so glad the video helped get you out there 👍
Another excellent vid Dean - the veiws were outstanding. i think all boots leak once the water lever passes the knees lol. Thanks for sharing.
Take care
ATB
Dave
Thanks for watching Dave, that view was amazing. So glad we chose to camp there. My boots have finally dried out now too :-) ATB
Totally stunning part of the country Dean, thanks for sharing.
+Stevie and Jr Outdoors thanks for watching Stevie. It's a really great part of the Peak District. Happy Birthday mate, hope you have a great weekend and enjoy your lakes trip when you go... The weather is rubbish here this weekend :-( ATB mate, Dean
+Dean Read thanks mate! Try and get over to one of our little meets. Be great to see you!
+Stevie and Jr Outdoors that sounds good, fancy a Lakes trip soon myself too :-)
Thank you for the absolutely gorgeous scenery. I bet crossing that river was lots of fun. Well done.
+Lina Khaddaj thanks for watching Lina, that river crossing was an interesting one :-) just managed to keep my feet dry
Thanks for the amazing scenery! Great natural scenery and the town of Ilam looks equally appealing. Great stuff!
Nice job as always Deano. Thanks and atb, Daz.
Cheers Daz, thanks for watching mate
I bet that place took some finding? What a stunning spot! A thoroughly enjoyable film as usual Dean, and great time-lapse. I can see why the morning was so mesmerising. Thanks for sharing...Atb Nige.
Thanks for watching Nige. I'd earmarked that spot a while ago but knew it would be tricky to get to, it was a bit of a climb as at the top of the hill it's private land so we had to skirt around while staying on access land. I could have stayed and looked at that view all day though, sadly we had to get back for work. ATB mate
That's awesome. I recently contacted peak District guys and was told that no one is allowed to wild camp. I guess i will have to do what everyone else is doing and just get in there. Nice video. Thanks.
Great camp Dean, what a beautiful spot. I've subscribed and will take a look at other vids soon as fella.
+PenButNoPencil-Photography thanks for watching and subscribing, it is a really great spot :-) ATB Dean
Love the Peak District and really miss it. Currently living in the UAE 🇦🇪 so it’s great getting to see it again through your videos. Keep up the good work👍
Lovely looking place......................Going soon
Thanks for watching, hope you have a great time when you go
Awesome video guys. Great stuff being over Dovedale and travelling so light. Something I always hope for but never achieve. ATB Andy
You put some effort to this video mate, great job. Place look fantastic for my next wild camping destination, and that spot with the view- outstanding. Thanks for sharing all those information with others, really appreciate
Thanks for watching mate, I love making the videos and I hope you have a good time when you visit
Another great video! Loved the time-lapse as well! Keep it up man :)
It was a really great view from where we camped, thanks for watching Jack
Fantastic vid Dean, that time lapse was epic!!!
Thanks for watching Thomas
Nicely done Dean another brill video! Great to meet up, we'll have to do it again soon (once my shoes have dried out).
Defo need to do it again soon mate, really enjoyed it and I think we picked the perfect spot. I may not have been saying that if we'd lost any kit of the side of the cliff though :-) haha
Lovely spot for a camp or even an hour sitting and looking. :D
It really is a great vantage point, may head back there again soon with the family. It's a little bit tricky to get to but well worth the effort. Thanks for watching Andrea
that music, thats The Ecstacy of Gold by Ennio Morricone! Great tune and what a great camp mate, Ive subbed you, watched a few already. atb Tom.
Dean quality as always, fantastic time lapse
Thanks for sharing ATB Wink
Cheers mate, it was a really great sight to watch. I was mesmerised by those clouds. All the best
Outstanding video again Dean , glad you went back to Dovedale as that is the first hike I plan to do end of October , thanks for uploading ⛺
Hey dean great video how long and what is best route to get to this spot from the dove dale holes ?
Can’t wait to wild Camp there, keep them coming
Fantastic video of a truly beautiful place! I was there myself in September and kept referring to the other place as 'Llam' (like Llama), without realising the first letter was in fact an I! ;-) I look forward to discovering your other videos.
Thanks for watching Olly, Ilam is a great place and I'm sure I've seen Llamas on a farm near there so I'm sure you pronunciation would be fine :-)
Great video as always 😀😀
Thanks for watching 👍😎
Dean, what a beaitiful place Mate. TYVM for sharing. Top Man. ATB. Reeco
Thanks for watching Recco, Dovedale is a very picturesque place and I'm so glad we picked the spot we did
I wore trail runners from Edale to little Hayfield then back round to climb kinder from the Reservoir then got lost in the bog then all round the skyline back to edale and 2 of my toenails have gone black hahaha. Thinking of using hiking boots in the high peaks from now on.
You're ace. Thanks for another great vid. Off to do your Mermaids pool tonight. Shame it's a bit dull and rainy. Cheers.
Thanks for your kind comment Phil, hope you had a good one up at Mermaids Pool too
Great job as usual. Better than watching TV... easy to do nowadays I guess haha! I hope British TV is not as bad as American TV!
Haha :-) thanks for watching Paul. I don't really watch any TV nowadays but I can sympathise with your comment about American TV, I do like the BBC documentaries but that's about it for me
I am the same way. I bought many of the BBC documentaries on DVD... so the only channel I watch is the DVD channel and yours.
Great video dean looked spot on 👍😀
Thanks for watching mate :-)
Enjoyed this... Well filmed...
Thanks for watching :-)
I recognise the bomb store as it's local to me.. great video.. but where is the wild camp as I fancy doing this, is it that same site as the bomb store?
It's overlooking Dovedale but I can't really give out the exact location as I'll get in trouble for naming places :-) due to wild camping not being strictly legal
We visit yesterywith my friends it was amazing tourist place
Thanks for watching Raja, it's a beautiful place
You pick the most beautiful locations. May I ask you what type of inflatable sleeping matt you use? I shall be doing more this year. Keep filming it's so inspiring.
+doug clarkson hi Doug thanks for watching, this camp was one of my favourites. A bit of a tricky spot to get to but well worth it for the views. My sleeping Matt is a Therm-a-Rest Venture WV and I can't recommend it highly enough, I've wasted lots of money on self inflating matts over the years that last 5 minutes but this one is perfect. ATB mate, Dean
Fantastic time lapse! Another great vid mate.
That ledge looked really precarious though...:-)
It was a little bit precarious but well worth the effort to get to, thanks for watching and sharing my friend
awesome views, great video as always and lovely wildcard even if a bit on the edge, cheers craig
Superb! Just getting into wild camping, do you have any tips for washing up your pots and pans when not near a water source?
Thanks for watching. I only use 1 pot so a bit boiled water and clumps of long grass usually does the trick 😁
hi dean, the car parks around there all say no overnight parking, where did you park mate? ice spent 5 hours driving around the peak tonight and me and the missus have came back home in total dissapointment after being unable to find anywhere other than farmland driving around
Hi mate, thanks for watching. This video was recorded 5 or 6 years ago and things have changed massively with parking since COVID. Sadly I've not been down that way in a long time so I honestly couldn't say where you can park at the moment. Sorry about that. All the best and I hope you have more luck next time.
@@DeanRead no probs bro thank you all the best to you too
hi Dean, love the videos, looking to camp in the same area in July, do I need to speak to the land owner or get permission from anybody? thanks.
Simply stunning Dean :)
Very good photography!
Enjoyed, great vid!
just caught up on excellent video-love the area-but how do you access Ravens Tor? See it is access land, but did you access via Stanshope or the river valley?
It's my first proper wild camp next month what sort of things should I be taking of anyone can help me an point me in the right direction for clothing and tents and things like that I'd appreciate it thanks a lot
Awesome vids mate. Just watching through them all. I'm after a waterproof jacket. Whats the full name of the Berghaus jacket you wear? Thanks.
Hi Paul, thanks for watching. My jacket is a Berghaus Goretex Paclite Shell from memory :-)
+Dean Read Cheers bud! After watching your videos it's certainly inspired me to get some wild camps in. Cheers :-)

It was a near perfect spot, I was mesmerised by that view :-) thanks for watching
What d
way did you go from the George to get to that stunning spot ?
were is this place
hi awesome video! whats your bivvy bag called?
Hi James, I use an Alpkit Hunka XL
Top quality video mate and that was a cracking time lapse. Was that with 10s intervals?
Thanks for watching mate. I'm not 100% sure about time lapse intervals on this one as I used my old iPhone 6 plus to shoot it. I usually just shoot continuous video with my DSLR and speed it up in post afterwards now days. All the best, Dean.

Thanks for watching Hans
Just subscribe..cool VIDEOS very inspiring..
A very enjoyable video. I think Ilan is pronounced (eye lamb) or I have heard people call it (I am).
Could you please, tell me the name of the song in the beginning ?
+Francesco Barnes hi Francesco, thanks for watching. The song is a remix I made myself of "Ecstasy of Gold" by Ennio Morricone from movie "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly"
Really well made ! Do you have a final version of it ?
+Francesco Barnes I don't sadly, I have used it in a few of my other videos and changed it slightly over the years. If you check out my most recent video there is a version of it there and during a time lapse at around 13 mins 15 seconds :-)
Thank's , In any case well composed !
+Francesco Barnes Thank you
well, just found my first wild camping spot!
Great video Dean!
Thanks for watching Alex
was it east to get up to your camping spot
+David Smith Sadly not, it can be a tricky climb up the grass bank.

I am the 60,000th view on this video
Thanks for watching 👍😎
Totally stunning part of the country Dean, thanks for sharing.
