Tbh some of these people were probably trolled by the tattoo artist!
They were :)) I know that a guy went to Japan to get a tattoo (to make sure, it was written correctly) and he got the same tattoo like the first " stupid foreigner"... when he went back home his friend told him what the tattoo spelled. It's sad to think that some tattoo artist in Japan would do this, they have no ethics... Should the forefinger get mad that the Japanese have stupid clothes with stupid English words? If Japan can use the English language why can foreigner have a tattoo in Japanese? Even more if he respected his body and the Japanese language enough to give out money to fly to Japan to get it correctly done...
Wolfy yes I did not say Japanese are like that, but in this case it was about something that happened in Japan, also in other parts of the world the tattoo places are legal, but in Japan it's not that easy to keep in control... because it's not legal

shamkand the story goes beyond that; he flew from Brazil to Japan to get it "done correctly". He told the artist he wanted to do that in Japan because he did not trusted the artists in Brazil to do a kanji and end up with an wrong kanji.
I don't remember if he did mention that even san-sei and ni-sei artists would do that wrongly. So he wanted to do something like "life is beautiful". He got it done, posted on Facebook telling the mentioned story above. A girl said it was wrong. He said it was impossible. She said " the kanji is correct, but it says 'stupid foreigner'".

as a fairly long time viewer, imagine my absolute schadenfreude at seeing my flatmate's tattoo in your video xd
the 水道 girl wants me to clarify that she is perfectly aware of the meaning, and no it's not a transcription of her name xd we're actually both studying Japanese and it's an inside joke from our kanji class. (we were only learning weird, random words like 水道 or 法華経 during our fist semester, and so at some point we started joking it would be amusing to get it tattoo'ed since it would look like one those tattoos foreigners get in Asia that spell something like 'sweet and sour chicken')

Japanese people don't really get tattoos but buying clothes or bags or accessories with English written on them is considered really fashionable in Japan. The English is often completely nonsense. If you ask a Japanese person if they know what it means, they don't 99 percent of the time.
So it goes both ways.

but you can simply take off your clothes if you don't like them anymore or if you realize the stupid things it says ... but tattoos are permanent unless you burn or peel your skin tho

Haha, this was hilarious. I'll admit, when I was younger I was considering getting a kanji tattooed on my body - now that I'm older, really glad that I didn't. I've heard of someone who had the word 'coke cola' in kanji tattooed o them - they had no clue - only got it cause they were told by the tattoo artist that it meant something else.
Yet another reason why I will never get a foreign language tattooed on my body if I don't know it myself. OMG that convo between Maho-chan and Duncan at the end killed me... I would love to be in your position, Mimei, I would laugh far too much 😂😂😂 Btw I really love Mahoto's laugh too, it's so full and loud, it echoes lol.

For a little bit I considered getting a tattoo in Chinese because it's a quote I love and it's originally in Chinese, but I'm worried that the tattoo artist could make a small mistake that changed the whole meaning. I'll stick with the languages I know well.
Alternatively, you could go to an artist that knows the language.

I have Kanji tattoos, but I looked up the actual meanings and everything before having them done and because I learnt a little Japanese when I was a teenager. XD But, damn, the people in those pictures got trolled by the tattoo artist, I think. Lol. Also, I saw king slimes in the background! As a Dragon Quest fan, that honestly makes me so happy. :'D
