the yellow in the water actually is indigo. when you dye the yarn it goes from yellow to green to eventually blue. when it comes off it's the same deal. Noticed that with indigo t-shirts that certainly didn't have any starch left.
Sure. They are actually not on their way yet. With the post being a little up in the air at the moment I did not want to risk three of my favourite jeans.
Hmm, I would say sell them. You can't wear them and I can't imagine them increasing in value much over time. Unless you have some sentimental attachment that it.
Hi sorry just another? About these I've tried searching history of these but on the tag on back has 1501 0127 made in USA no care tag inside original size was 36/36 are these genuine mens or womens the selvedge seems white can't see any red if you could help me out thank you
Ehh, yes. If they are unsanforized and unwashed they will shrink down. But if they are really faded in you might find your fades shifting a little higher.
Yeah, for sure. Iron Heart do AMAZING jeans and other gear. They are one of the most respected raw denim brands out there. I have never actually worn a pair, the heavy denim was never really my thing but I know so many folks who wont look at another brand after they get their first pair of Iron Hearts. Check out Thomas Bojer from @denimhunters on Instagram... He is is die hard denimhead and dedicated to Iron Hearts these days.
@@CeeAreDee I feel like I'm in the same boat. I got a pair of 14 oz indigo/black 888 Iron Heart jeans off eBay for a VERY good price (guy wore them once in his house), already hemmed at my inseam length and correct waist size. These things are so high quality, I had no idea that there would be such a huge difference compared to my other jeans. I have Naked & Famous, Levi's Made & Crafted and some cheaper GAP selvedge and none of them even hold a candle to the IH. I do understand the price points are quite different, of course. But I feel like I don't want to wear any other jeans anymore. I am open if there are other brands that are up to the same standard, but as of now I just love the Iron Hearts. Really hard to justify the full price of them, and I don't think I will, but I can see why they're priced the way they are.
@@Cemmos Ahhh, nice man! That;s great. Stoked you managed to find such a great bargain. Yeah, the price is high for sure, but it is compatible with other Japanese brands and in terms of quality and bang for the buck, I think it is reasonable. Brands you might want to look at could be Pure Blue Japan, Samurai Jeans, The Flat Head (if you can find them) Oni Denim... this is to name just a few. These guys are all Japanese and do incredible jeans. Did you get the 21oz IH?
@@CeeAreDee thanks for the recommendations! I'll keep an eye out for any deals on those. I got the 14 oz ones, but at some point I do want a 21 oz pair. 13-14 oz is pretty much the heaviest I've had/own, so I feel like I need at least one pair at the heavier weight.
They were a tiny bit bigger in the waist but not one full size. To be honest, I wish I had sized up one size, they came in way more than I thought they would.
I guess I could... I doubt it would do it any harm... this process is mostly about just shrinking the jeans down. Removing the nasties from the weaving process is kinda secondary. But come to think about it, you are totally right. I do the soaking on unsanforized denim to get rid of the chemicals.. so this is just as important. I am not sure how soap really deals with things like starch. Might have to Google that.
@Duke Robinson, I was not too surprised, the denim is super light in tone. I would say half as light as the "normal" raw denim tone. I don't think there is much indigo lying on the surface of the yarn to wash off. The fades will be really interesting. I am betting they will be very light in tone. Like real vintage style fades.
@@CeeAreDee tiny bit of shrinkage in the waist. I only did a very cold wash for around 10 minutes. Even on a cold I feel the difference when wearing. I would normally go two sizes up and shrink 32 down to a 30. The 37s I got in the recent sale were 30 waist so don't wont to shrink to much.
I have some denim that has no starch, the denim bleed is quite something. Some mills double dip their denim in indigo, so that can increase the bleed also.

Hi! Can you do a video on your Momotaro’s once they back from repair?
Sure. They are actually not on their way yet. With the post being a little up in the air at the moment I did not want to risk three of my favourite jeans.
Faraz Mustafa Khan, Momotaro's are fantastic jeans. I have two pairs, a 13.7 and a 15.7 oz the denim is fantastic, great texture and characteristics.
what difference does it make when the jeans take too long to dry vs drying them as fast as possible? do they shrink more with a quicker dry?
I think so because if you put them in the dryer to dry faster, they shrink more/quicker
Hi just purchased a pair of levis 1501 selvedge lower case e in good condition they didn't fit me should I just keep or sell on thank you

OK thanks for your reply and comments

Will this process shrink jeans that are older and broken in?
Ehh, yes. If they are unsanforized and unwashed they will shrink down. But if they are really faded in you might find your fades shifting a little higher.
Quick question, have you heard of the brand Iron Heart? If so, what are your thoughts on them?

Does this work for thick denim
I just got the LVC 507xx and they are a bit too long in the arms. To shrink them would I just do the same thing? Is it any different for a jacket?
Yeah, it will come in a little bit. Just be careful it does not shrink too much in the length.
Matt, out of interest did you size up much to allow for shrinkage?
They were a tiny bit bigger in the waist but not one full size. To be honest, I wish I had sized up one size, they came in way more than I thought they would.
Cheers Matt
what are they like now dry?
Hey Ben, check out the new vid... I go through it in detail. th-cam.com/video/ER5mf8-3WtE/w-d-xo.html But over all, I am happy.
Isn’t this part2???!
Guess this would be part 2 th-cam.com/video/ER5mf8-3WtE/w-d-xo.html :)
Why not use a tiny bit of detergent to get the chemicals and starch out at the same time?
He is soaking the jeans. Otherwise it would be washing. That's not necessary
@sf2explus I think that denim is some tough stuff, so I am trying not to baby it too much.

@sf2explus. How come you to that, buddy?
@Jannis Mahler, yeah you should not treat it too pretious.
Wonder what this man does for a living? Especially during these times.
I am a billionaire playboy that fights crime clad in denim by night. Obviously ...

Strange that there was little to no indigo bleed.
I just did my Euro made 1937 501s. Not much indigo bleeding at all.
