My grandfather was from Homms. He recently passed away and never have I seen Homms mentioned in any TH-cam video I’ve come across. I am in tears thank you for this video. Homms truly makes the most amazing souls to walk this earth. Those ladies seemed so kind. I pray one day I can see my grandfathers home. He was a carpenter, he was Christian and the best person I’ve ever known. God bless Syria 🙏🏼 always in my prayers
I passed through Homms in 2008 in my way from this monastery to Hama. I don’t speak Arabic and lots of people showed me such kindness helping me find my way. Great people.
I am from Kerala India and my community is called Syrian Christians. The Syrian Christian church in Kerala is as old as 2000 years. Apostle Thomas came and preached here and was martyred in India. We are called Syrian Christians because the bishops of our church were ordained by bishops from Antioch, Syria, where the early church was based, according to Acts of the Apostles.
There is something very touching about receiving and enjoying simple food from time to time. Each day God gives us what we need and there is so much to love Him for ⛪️
I get goosebumps on how beautyful it is and sweet love and compassionate vibes you feel from the monastry. Never seen this before and nice to get positive stories from Syria
I am so proud of the fact that you were able to remain silent. I know you love to describe what's going on in the scenery thank you for the respect you showed
Wow !!! - for the VERY First time I actually really enjoyed Mark NOT Talking so much !!! 🫶🏽 - Absolutely refreshing just watching and NOT Hearing him talk !!! 😱😱 - too bad he kept at it during the rest of the video 😏😏
This monastery is one of the most famous historical sites in the world. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to visit it in my lifetime. I hope that one day I will be able to return and visit this holy place in Syria. Thank you, Mark, for this video showcasing the beauty of this location and the kindness and hospitality of Christians in Syria, and Syrians in general.
I went to visit it back in October of 2022, it really is an amazing place and you can actually stay and volunteer for an extended stay. I wish peace for Syria and better situation for myself so that I can volunteer here for an extended time one day in the future.
Supercool I LOVE seeing historical places like this it’s just surreal, and for all those saying god bless Syrian christians I wanna say god bless all Syrians if you only knew how well they coexist together the media just doesn’t want you to know that
I enjoyed the tour. You have to realize that everything got there by hand carry, or small carts... From the original construction, renovations, appliances, tables, books, etc. I'm sure Mark helped them out with a nice donation.
Mark watching your videos are so amazing, we get to see things that we would probably never get to see ourselves and I am grateful for that! Thank you.
It's looks really beautiful, peaceful and interesting. Love everything in the monastery, what a climb with those stairs 😅. Loved this video and your gift of cross that the ladies crochet so beautiful ❤
The Syrians are a great people who were able to persevere despite all the difficult circumstances that their country went through. May God bless all Syrians of all religions and sects
Hi Mark, thats a wonderful video, thank you very much for it. This week, close friends visited my mom. They have lost their second adult child to cancer just a month ago (his brother also died of cancer 10 years ago). They are very believing catholics, and for them, their believe helps them so much to go through those horrible times. I am still a catholic just because I dont want to hurt my late dad. What I want to say and I am maybe very clumsly about it - believing in a higher power, can give you so much strenght and help you so much. Like it does help the people in Syria. Is doesnt matter if there is really a "god" or however you call that higher power. Its just important that people are supported and feel some help. Thank you for being always so respectful and tolerant and non judging.
I've heard of some monasteries in which the monks take a vow of silence. It's too quiet there yet so serene, tranquil and peaceful. Great place for meditation. God bless not only the Syrian Christians, but Christians throughout the world 🙏
I think I already saw this on Mark's main channel, but love watching again anyway. The positivity and respectfulness is always a reason why I continue to watch 🙂
8:25 where he was describing the age of the "fresco" in arabic: i believe he said its 1850 years old? But the interpretor said it was over 1000 years old which is ok also but 850 is alot of years to leave behind with all due respect. But all in all a great vlog about this beautiful monastery
Apart from very occasional periods of hostility, Christians and Muslims have lived together in harmony for many centuries. It is more likely the the small entrance was and still to protect them from robbers because due to its very isolated location the monastery could be a tempting target for unscrupulous people.

This is just lovely. The people in the monastery have the true hearts of servants, for their fellow humans.
Thank you Susan!

I was always impressed travelling to Christian sites in Syria that Muslims visited them too. Beautiful thing. Very spiritual places.
Experiences like these really showcase the incredible culture and history of these faraway countries. Very interesting and eye opening video, Mark! 😲
...And the fact that all religions can co-exist well. Syria is a great example of this
Thank you!
