You won the lottery tho on that Samurai, you found the ultra rare specimen I have one doubt tho, you have to CLEAR all savage/extreme fights to unlock mentor roulette or just unlock them?
also a lot of sprouts creating these Mentor Roulette EX hells are usually free trial players - they don't have access to PF / aren't aware of its existence or have friends who can make PFs for them, so they just queue using duty finder and create mentor traps. I don't necessarily mind explaining mechs to newbies and help them clear (it's the intended point of mentor roulette after all), but sometimes sprouts just insta pull or wipe to the same explained mechanic over and over and I just want to die

I love this series, because it feels like a melding of the valid perspectives of both mentors and sprouts, getting to see the best and worst of both camps. You can actually SEE how willfully incompetent many players are in both camps, and see the players that give everyone a bad name, and the players that restore our will to live. Please make these as often as you want to.
Already done the grind myself an year ago. Was one of the funniest and most frustrating content some times. is there, like, a special pool of players who can only be accessed by mentors? cause my mentor friends complain a lot about this stuff, but I hardly ever see it in normal roulettes
Yeah, you tend to run into some more... special characters in Mentor Roulette, even in regular levelling dungeons - and I don't mean sprouts, usually the worst ones are non sprouts or crafting mentors I have a tinfoil hat theory that the game has a shadow list of players that are abnormally bad at the game and put them on priority for mentors to queue into, so they don't pollute the regular roulettes as often
Tanks taking the mobs out of your doton brings back horrible memories of when they’d just up and leave my earthly star when I put it down before the radius increase :’)

Nothing more amazing than getting an extreme trial for mentor roullette and during the 30 minutes plus that they were qued up none of the sprouts bothered to learn a single thing 100% blind.
Respectfully, the mount should be a secondary objective and you should be a mentor to be kind and properly educate other players. This is a reason why a lot of mentors get bad reps, and sometimes rightfully so
@@paradonyx7987 Wow, so, for the kids in the back “healer salt is what fills the Burn” is kinda a standard joke. But since you came for me respectfully, let me defend myself. NONE of that salt made it to the comment box, and yes, I have done the roulette since I hit 2000, so it wasn’t my sole reason. In 2000+ runs (because remember you get nothing if you time out of a 1.5 hour extreme instance and don’t clear) I left ONE instance because a tank in 60 gear, using no mit pulled wall to wall in Ho switch, and when I let him die at the second wall because I had nothing left, he made an ass comment about me being a shit healer and proceeded to pull a single mob with hallowed ground and I said “nah, I’m out.” I cleared parties full of sprouts through EVERY 50 and 60, extreme except Thordan, cuz random mechs are hard for sprouts, and Ramuh, because tanks are stupid important in that fight and no mgmt sucks at 50. And got us to near enrage in Shinryu (why tf people were still DFing extremes in Stormblood, no clue). Oh, and “being supportive” isn’t always wanted. I learned REAL fast that if you offer advice when it isn’t asked for, people think you’re criticizing or insulting them, so aside from “hi” “tyfp” or “do you want mechanics explained or blind?” You sit down, shut up, and do your job. I ran healer to make sure at least one person who could raise knew the fights. So you can miss me with your attitude when most mentor vids are dps or tanks that can say “not my circus, not my monkeys” when people screw up, and just keep themselves alive. I’m NOT the person that gives mentors a bad name, it’s not my fault you can’t take a joke.
omg the intro to this made me laugh so much, I'm 500 mentor roulettes away from the big boi Astrope and it has been such a hot mess so far. Loving it though.
As a sprout, the first thing I do any time I start a duty I've never done before is let the other players know it's my first time, and ask if there's anything specific I should know about. I still screw up from time to time, often in very embarrassing ways (i.e. I'm staring at my ability cooldowns while the boss is charging an attack I need to get into cover for, or I'm focusing the wrong enemy out of panic, or I don't notice a status effect in time and I die for it), but I learn from my mistakes and I grow. That said, the tank jumping right back into the fight after a party wipe *while mechanics are trying to be explained* hurts to watch. That's just willful ignorance at that rate.
11:30 Lol this was me during my first run of this raid. I tried to read the debuff status but then the boss initiated a cutscene, when the cutscene was over I didn't have enough time to re-read it. Then on the 2nd time I misread it.
Can someone please explain what's wrong within the clip at 3:12 ? I've ran only Praetorium everytime when the moogle traesure trove begins, but I don't understand what happend there :o
Normally Gaius dies too fast so a melee limit break won't get full value on him/you won't get to spend it after his ultimate attack, so it's better spent by a ranged or mage dps to burst down 2 of the clones to speed things up, and that's why I usually comm players who do that tl;dr autistic minmaxing in extremely casual content tickles my brain
I don't get all the people here saying "OH GAWD MENTOR ROULETTE IS SOOOO AWFUL I WILL NEVER DO IT!" This video right here is exactly why I love it. It's amusing. It brings variety. Running this stuff for the thousandth time perfectly without anyone effing up in the most embarassing ways possible is boring as hell.
the segment starting at the 5:00 mark gave me flashbacks of 2 amourot runs i had. 1st being in shadowbringers before all the endwalker changes: had a warriror as a tank who could not keep aggro even with the tank stance on...claimed they lvl'd it up legit but me, the nin, and ast weren't buying it after how many times we ended up wiping during the second boss. 2nd run was during endwalker, with a sprout paladin (whom i think was an alt), and dancer and a sage.......the dancer didn't dance partner with me or anyone in the party, didn't bring the teathered bombs to the group so we can aoe the shit out of it with the rest of the mobs. And not once did i see Standard step or Technical Step used. And the sage....well....I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt because this happened before post game content started coming out...but they were heavily relying Diagnosis and Prognosis as their heals (and yes they had karida on the tank but were not dpsing at all utilizing kardia one bit.)
The one where the creatures are released. I will stand off to one at the front for that line marker. That way the healer or both dps can use the back area to to spread out a bit better. Given the proper angle it won't cross or hit anything.
there is so much joy helping a group of sprout clearing ramuh ex or thordan ex, when you see them learning and improving in real time it's so great, but 2 out of 3 it's preatorium or rathalos ex x)
This was very fun to watch, and I've seen some things, I've seen a GNB do Aetherochemical with no stance despite being told, but it's fair as that's the level you unlock GNB at and it was near release so it was new flashy job, what you documented with the SAM is just impressive at this point, we all started somewhere but I'd expect them to have picked it up more by level 80. My favourite day in mentor roulettes was the day I somehow got a group that cleared Moggle mog EX and Thordan EX back to back, I got so excited I had to tell my raid group what had happened, and though I'd unsynced Thordan 100+ times for the 99 totems and then some for wonderous tails and stuff, I'd never cleared it synced myself too so it was nice to do that, I was real happy that day
7:43 reminds me of when i was in a trial, playing scholar and the other healer (conjurer) was only healing and reviving me, I think it was in Ifrit (extreme).
I've yet to unlock Mentor Roulette and I'm not sure if I want to. Just in normal roulettes I wind up carrying a lot of the time. The thought of getting parties of my usual quality in an EX trial sounds like nightmare fuel.
Surprised to see a fellow warrior who still has the third hotbar as click only! Honestly I really need to bind it to something, I've just been lazy. Usually clicking works for me but every now and then I have those moments during raids where I'm moving my mouse back and forth and back and forth and unfocusing my eyes trying to find it on the screen before a tankbuster or something and I know I've gotta map it to something *eventually*
As someone who is going through the mentor hell, this is true and hilarious 😂😂😂. Personally I find myself more amused than frustrated but I can see how it can drive someone insane. These are great thanks for the upload 😂
nothing, that's what you're supposed to do because even if you bring him to 0.1% Gaius will do the split mechanic, and by the time he comes back he's usually already dead before you can melee lb him, so melee lb is a waste and should be used on range/mage to speed up adds
I know i recently while beeing a sprout knowing how to esuna had a dungeon where i completely forgot how to and caused the others pain. Made it trough the fight but poor dps got frustrated as he tried to tell me but I could not read it as my cat had decided that boss fight was the one where she would flomp down infront of half the screen. XD
while this is true for the majority of mentor roulette, also, there are a lot of times where the mentor who loads into your duty refuses to help explain how or why a mechanic was failed. you cant get mad at the sprout for not knowing everything they're supposed to do, at some point the mentor is expected to step in and you know..... MENTOR.
Yeah, I've had a few such cases myself. And when I pointed this specific thing out, the mentor got offended that someone was expecting them to do their job as a mentor; Told me that they were in it mostly to just get a fast queue to the newer duties and have no idea how to do the one we were doing at the time. And kept throwing a fit when I mentioned that maybe, just maybe, they could have used the time they were bitching and moaning at me for expecting more than 0 effort from them, they could have whipped up the wiki and read through it. Coin definitely has two sides here.
@@OzixiThrill see mentors like that suck, btw iirc, if you remembered their name you can support desk report them for that and they can have their mentor status revoked. but also they wanted fast queues into new content??? that doesnt even make sense LMAO just queue 90 roulette or expert roulette if thats what you want. some people's thought process just dont make sense lmao
Very true like that's the point of it and also sadly see mentors making consistent same mistakes in a duty much like these players (not like 1 or 2 mistake). I had to explain mechanics to some even (not a mentor myself) but ya. I just pass off the crown as a mount farmer and not much else.
@@OzixiThrill It doesn't help that you can unlock mentor roulette just by doing old ex trials unsynced. If SE isn't going to require a mentor to properly clear every ex trial to prove they know what they are doing and can teach others, they shouldn't have ex trials in mentor roulette.

You won the lottery tho on that Samurai, you found the ultra rare specimen
I have one doubt tho, you have to CLEAR all savage/extreme fights to unlock mentor roulette or just unlock them?
You have to finish every single regular dungeon + all extremes excluding current expansion ones to qualify for mentor roulette
also a lot of sprouts creating these Mentor Roulette EX hells are usually free trial players - they don't have access to PF / aren't aware of its existence or have friends who can make PFs for them, so they just queue using duty finder and create mentor traps. I don't necessarily mind explaining mechs to newbies and help them clear (it's the intended point of mentor roulette after all), but sometimes sprouts just insta pull or wipe to the same explained mechanic over and over and I just want to die
@@Zanagoth as the youtuber Misshapen chair once said "Beware the Sprout that doesnt listen"
I hope you're ready to have mentor hell in stormblood extremes too since they'll be added to free trial!
@@Zanagoth i am at stormblood and i dont know what PF are:D or atleast i tried it once and it way too confounded for my brain rotted by wow, anyway.. i spammed lot of shiva extreme bcs cool music and.. to be honest best are propably those where you wipe once or twice with all sprouts but they learn the mechanic quickly and then it just feel cool:D
@@ZanagothThat's why i personally wouldn't bother with mentor roulette. I just do not have the patience and you need to have that if you want to be a mentor. A mentor without patience is a shitty mentor which is exactly why i will never be a mentor even when i have enough commendations 😂
The Doton bit hurt my soul. I main tank and whenever I see it put down I'm basically glued to it lol
7:28 Samurai is easy but only if you understand it's rotation and I kid you not that some of the reason they don't understand it is because of the skill names. Majority of the the newbies don't read nor understand the tooltips too. XD
to be honest, the not english type of name is hard to connect which skill will follow into which one or which will give you buff.. but then i just satr with new samurai for 5 minutes with dummy and learned.. oh this 123 will give me one card for dot, this 145 will give me second card, and 16 will give me last one.. oh and those three skills are aoe.. i dropped it after 5 minutes bcs it wanted me to flank and rear and i am caster.. never done thatr?D
Honestly great editing style. Memes/sound effects had healthy time in between one another, and perspectives and transitions were easy on the eyes. Only thing I'd recommend is giving a pinch more time for people to read any text on the screen 💜
3:10 the rekindle thing hits man, i always give it to my tank and save my swift cast for emergency rezes and still never get commends :(
I love this series, because it feels like a melding of the valid perspectives of both mentors and sprouts, getting to see the best and worst of both camps. You can actually SEE how willfully incompetent many players are in both camps, and see the players that give everyone a bad name, and the players that restore our will to live. Please make these as often as you want to.
I start my journey today, bright eyed and clueless
I remember watching these videos, dreading the grind I would eventually have to go through. Now that it's over, I can sit back and enjoy the show lol
I hit 1500 mentors the other day.
I am almost free
This guy is every single one of my toxic traits that i keep locked up in the back of my mind. I needed this.
Already done the grind myself an year ago. Was one of the funniest and most frustrating content some times.
Mentor roulettes made me realize that SE needs to make harder content so that ppl can actually get better in the game. Will help in the long run, most sadly already fail on the easiest things x)
I felt that Shiva EX in my soul. Mentor roulette'd as a healer into one where both tanks were sprouts and neither would respond/read chat. Insta-pulls, insta-deaths, and me in the middle desperately trying to explain her stances while trying to keep all the babies alive. 😭
Just found this video and it was great. Thank you!
is there, like, a special pool of players who can only be accessed by mentors? cause my mentor friends complain a lot about this stuff, but I hardly ever see it in normal roulettes
Yeah, you tend to run into some more... special characters in Mentor Roulette, even in regular levelling dungeons - and I don't mean sprouts, usually the worst ones are non sprouts or crafting mentors
I have a tinfoil hat theory that the game has a shadow list of players that are abnormally bad at the game and put them on priority for mentors to queue into, so they don't pollute the regular roulettes as often
@@Zanagoth I wish this was the case, I was/am having people like this in late Endwalker and in Dawntrail.
11:30 THE LEGEND THAT GOT SLAPPED BY THE SNIPER SHOT LMAOOOOO
Man you're so lucky. My mentor roulettes are usually very uneventful content with competent players.
Tanks taking the mobs out of your doton brings back horrible memories of when they’d just up and leave my earthly star when I put it down before the radius increase :’)

Although i don't agree that SAM is one of the easiest DPS Jobs (it's incredibly busy) the video is swag. Looking forwards to more!
People seem to have this weird idea in their heads that SAM is braindead now that Kaiten is gone. Oh no, I don't have to hit a pointless, empty global before every Iaijutsu anymore, and I save 20 Kenki each time. My brain is dead now.
@@Sithalosout of all melees is pretty easy but with that said I say reaper the most brain dead melee job
now as most brain dead dps jobs in general its probably mch or smn
Kaiten isn't what held it together, but it was literally something to think about, and now there's nothing.
@@Hugo-MTX96 Definitely SMN, with DNC right behind it imo.
When you try to duty find for an extreme fight, it should just open the party finder.
Nothing more amazing than getting an extreme trial for mentor roullette and during the 30 minutes plus that they were qued up none of the sprouts bothered to learn a single thing 100% blind.
What we do for the mount. I healed my way to 2000, and damn the salt levels filled the burn, I swear. You can do it!
Respectfully, the mount should be a secondary objective and you should be a mentor to be kind and properly educate other players.
This is a reason why a lot of mentors get bad reps, and sometimes rightfully so
It's kinda what you sign up for. As the saying goes, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Alright the guy twitching at hearing the first notes of the praetorium theme got me good
Your music choice is fantastic
thanks for playing cruelty squad music, i personally think that samurai was the protag of gorbino's quest
FFXIV has taught me just how terrible people that never played video games can be at video games.
This video for me highlights why i chose to learn all jobs at least a bit. So i know what to do and not do.
0:10 That "F" word is your problem. ;)
WE LOVE A GOOD MENTOR VID LETS GOOOO
Mario Kart OST just goes with everything... I'mma listen to it when I'm on the road later.
I have never wanted to laugh so hard and cry at the same time because this is the TRUEST thing I've ever seen.
11:30
Lol this was me during my first run of this raid. I tried to read the debuff status but then the boss initiated a cutscene, when the cutscene was over I didn't have enough time to re-read it. Then on the 2nd time I misread it.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of tasting 10 tries for Ramuh Extreme... The mentors are saints for all the help they gave us
Can someone please explain what's wrong within the clip at 3:12 ? I've ran only Praetorium everytime when the moogle traesure trove begins, but I don't understand what happend there :o
Normally Gaius dies too fast so a melee limit break won't get full value on him/you won't get to spend it after his ultimate attack, so it's better spent by a ranged or mage dps to burst down 2 of the clones to speed things up, and that's why I usually comm players who do that
tl;dr autistic minmaxing in extremely casual content tickles my brain
You cant fix stupid. Thats why i play WAR, so i dont need the other three people
In 8 years of playing, I swear there is more people with pudding instead of brain than we can expect
The one where the creatures are released. I will stand off to one at the front for that line marker. That way the healer or both dps can use the back area to to spread out a bit better.
Given the proper angle it won't cross or hit anything.
well. Mentor Crowns aren't called Burger King Crowns for nothing.
there is so much joy helping a group of sprout clearing ramuh ex or thordan ex, when you see them learning and improving in real time it's so great, but 2 out of 3 it's preatorium or rathalos ex x)
Ya know...this video reminds me of why im actually kinda glad i cant get comms XD im so sorry you had to suffer through all of it
This was very fun to watch, and I've seen some things, I've seen a GNB do Aetherochemical with no stance despite being told, but it's fair as that's the level you unlock GNB at and it was near release so it was new flashy job, what you documented with the SAM is just impressive at this point, we all started somewhere but I'd expect them to have picked it up more by level 80.
My favourite day in mentor roulettes was the day I somehow got a group that cleared Moggle mog EX and Thordan EX back to back, I got so excited I had to tell my raid group what had happened, and though I'd unsynced Thordan 100+ times for the 99 totems and then some for wonderous tails and stuff, I'd never cleared it synced myself too so it was nice to do that, I was real happy that day
1:04 It happened to me once because I forgot to tap into the Cruiser Chaser. We often make mistakes
14:10 when sprout jumps after you makes me laugh ^^
Your Glamour is top notch as a tank.
Nice reminder that I should go unlock mentor roulette since watching this comedy in real time is what I love about healing anyway.
I was a Sprout Tank when I did Ramuh EX... Wasn't fun but I did it... A crafting mentor now...
7:43 reminds me of when i was in a trial, playing scholar and the other healer (conjurer) was only healing and reviving me, I think it was in Ifrit (extreme).
Funniest bit is that you click your AoE buttons on NIN
Seeing all those tanks drag mobs out of Doton. It reminds me so hard of the Post that was made about a Tank thinking asylum heals mobs
The tank from 8:00 makes me think they have ALL effects turned off
As someone who is going through the mentor hell, this is true and hilarious 😂😂😂. Personally I find myself more amused than frustrated but I can see how it can drive someone insane. These are great thanks for the upload 😂
Gotta admit I thought Felix Sullivan was about to die in this clip at 4:32. And this video makes me want to level a ninja. :)
this hurts so much
mentor mount was a mistake but it is mine
bonus points for sick music
omg this is top tier content.
3:16 what's wrong with using ranged lb here if melee didn't use it before phase change?
nothing, that's what you're supposed to do because even if you bring him to 0.1% Gaius will do the split mechanic, and by the time he comes back he's usually already dead before you can melee lb him, so melee lb is a waste and should be used on range/mage to speed up adds
The worst kind of duty is when 7 out of 8 players are mentors, but only the sprout actually knows the mechanics.
XD
*squints*
I felt all of that on an atomic level.
Mentor life is a tough one, and it doesn't do us any favor that some mentors playing the same fcking way like these sprouts...
while this is true for the majority of mentor roulette, also, there are a lot of times where the mentor who loads into your duty refuses to help explain how or why a mechanic was failed. you cant get mad at the sprout for not knowing everything they're supposed to do, at some point the mentor is expected to step in and you know.....
