    One possible problem is if a Hermit does not change their spawn bed after playing the game, they could die and respawn in the room. Could that interrupt a player in the dungeon?

    • @bmiller545
      @bmiller545 ปีที่แล้ว +259

      Good point! Maybe have an exit room have a bed for when they leave so if they forget to reset their spawn then they're just at the exit and make it so they don't set off the player detector.

    Something very important for playability: If you’re planning on randomly destroying cards after every Decked Out run, I’d suggest that you add something that tells the player which cards from their deck were destroyed, so that people don’t get confused or do another run without realizing one of their key cards is missing.

    • @Flash4ML
      @Flash4ML ปีที่แล้ว +75

      Yea I'm assuming that he just hasn't yet explained the method for communicating card stuff to the players. There was talk very early on of cards having voiceovers so that a resounding "Beast Sense!" would ring out through the dungeon when the card was played. I don't know if that idea was shelved or not (if I had to guess, that isn't the plan, but we'll see) but I definitely think that there is or should be a way of letting players know stuff about their cards, whether inside or outside the dungeon

    • @hieronymusnervig8712
      @hieronymusnervig8712 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    I think it's worth getting pixel artists who can help with the card art along with the card's overall design. Scaling down images doesn't really work when clarity is important. Pixel artists are great for this because they know how to convey important information within the confines of their medium.
    Having someone who specializes in card design specifically will help a lot in ironing out some details. Some of the things that stand out to me (and to others who've also echoed this) with the current card designs are:
    - Icons and numbers being too small or undefined
    - The card art taking up majority of the face of the card when it can be cropped (especially when the art itself has so much negative space on the top of the frame)
    - Bounty, Second Wind, Smash and Grab, Skillful Retreat
    - The reused assets of the card art (recycled backgrounds, figures, posing, etc.)
    - Curious Advance, Deeper We Go, What Lies Beneath, The Darkest Depths -> same posing & figures
    - Curious Advance, Second Wind, Stoneskin -> same backgrounds
    - Sneak, Smash and Grab, Vanish, Smarter By The Step -> same backgrounds
    - The padding inconsistencies
    - Border colour pertaining to rarity rather than card type (ie. ethereal). The rarity of the card isn't as important as the functional typing.
    I understand wanting all this detail in the cards but scaling down an image is not going to have that effect -- it'll have the opposite, if anything. Simplifying the icons will also help them stand out. One way to do this is by limiting the amount of colours used. For example: the hazard symbol does not need that amount of definition and shading; it can literally be 2 colours. Those icons should also be easily defined by their silhouette. Not only does it help with quick glances but it's good to have for accessibility -- which in turn, is good for everyone.
    Hopefully this was some helpful and constructive feedback. I'll still be extremely excited to see the final product regardless :)

    I know others have said this, but I definitely think the icons need to be larger, and also it needs to be more obvious when a card is ethereal or permanent. Eg: maybe a box at the top which is empty on a normal card but can have a ghost symbol and or a lock symbol (lock being for permanent). Then another thing is I think the difference between the clank block and clank generate symbol needs to be more prominent, its hard to see the difference at a glance to me.

    A suggestion: make the cards that drop things in the dungeon prioritize the level the player is currently on when the card is drawn. Nothing would suck more than drawing the 20 ember card and never seeing any of the embers it dropped because you're 3 levels away and they all despawned before you got there.

    • @Flash4ML
      @Flash4ML ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Interesting idea, but I'm not sure how that would be implemented, if it's possible to gauge where the player is at the time the card is played. I think a more realistic solution would be to find a balance for the drops so that the card is useful, maybe making sure that there's a relatively even spread between levels. Alternatively, you could make two different types of drop cards, one that drops in the top two levels, and one for the bottom two. This way you can strategize and include certain drop cards depending on whether you're planning on a shallow or deep run

    Card idea: There are only a couple cards that drop embers/coins; with such a large dungeon chances are you won't find them. I'd make most cards drop a small amount of coins/embers, and dedicated cards drop a ton of them. This would (1) make the player feel good (2) add more distractions and risks while they're on their way to find their artifact (3) make cards that get played at bad times not a *total* waste.

      @doverin5732 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's only a couple of drop cards SO FAR, and probably because this was just a showcase for the different kinds of card effects. Even then it's not as unbalanced as it seems cuz drops cards seem easier to get, meaning you'll end up with more of them and use them more often.
      The risk/reward cards are fine how they are; they're SUPPOSED to be a gamble.

    • @DrKvo
      @DrKvo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doverin5732 What I'm proposing is just as much of a gamble. There wouldn't be any more reward in effect. Tango would re-balance coins and embers to adjust. All it does is
      - make the players *notice* their cards more (they see more drops) which was a problem from DO1
      - provide more distractions ("I see a frost ember over there, but my clank is already really high, should I go for it?")
      - take a bit of the sting out of bad luck. At least a couple of embers might get dropped, but ultimately it would be no different because of the balancing of coins/embers which is going to happen anyways.
      ---
      So this is less of a "risk/reward" thing and more of a "making your cards more noticeable" type thing. The `true` risk/reward will always be if the cards synergize regardless if one extra coin is dropped in the dungeon.

    With how many secrets there will be in the dungeon, I'd love if the background card art gave some hints about where to look for secrets (ex- delve cards having backgrounds that allude to the shortcuts to deeper dungeon layers). I feel like adding hints like this will have the players always paranoid and attentive for other details and hints, whether they are real or perceived.

  • @rafaelmatias1851
    @rafaelmatias1851 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    A FEW CARD IDEAS : )
    1. A one use card that gave you an invisibility potion as you enter the dungeon, with some sort of drawback (generates hazard for example).
    2. A card that provided you with either a respiration helmet, or a potion of waterbreathing. You could have underwater passages/secrets that would systematically drown the player unless they have either item. You could build such underwater passages for example beneath the waters of the undeground lake.
    3. A gamble style card with a 50/50 chance of doing an effect uppon entering the dungeon, one effect being bad, and the other being good. You would kind of roll the dice and hope for the best as you start the game knowing you would get either an advantage or a disadvantage (Example: 50% chance of having 20 frost embers be dropped in the dungeon VS 50% chance of generating 2 clank as you just begin your dungeon run.)
    4. A card that provided you with throwable items such as snowballs, to hit certain target blocks that could trigger contraptions in the dungeon. You could also hide skulk sensors that would watch out for snowball sounds and trigger contraptions. You could sell clues about where to throw the snowballs and thus trigger the skulk sensors in the black market of the dungeon.
    5. A card that gave you a fishing rod for players to fetch coins and frost embers dropped in otherwise unreachable areas of the dungeon. You could also hide skulk sensors that would trigger with the sound of fishing. Say, you make a stop to fish in the underground lake, you catch a fish and that triggers a secret shortcut for example.
    6. A card that gave you the necessary materials to spawn either an iron golem or a snow golem inside the dungeon, to distract mobs and take aggro off you for a moment. (EDIT: Not a good idea afterall, Iron golems can damage/kill dungeon mobs and snow golems would mess up the place with snow layers)
    7. A one time card that gave you a nearly broken shield, allowing you to block say: 1 to 3 hits from mobs inside the dungeon.
    8. A card that gave you swift sneak leggins for the dungeon levels with the wardens.
    9. A card that gave you 1 enderpearl upon entering the dungeon.
    10. A one time card that gave you a totem of undying.
    That's all I got, i'm out all out of ideas

    • @panparenicai-5172
      @panparenicai-5172 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These are good! One problem I see with 6 though is that iron golems could kill the ravagers which don't respawn. The snow golems might be annoying is they leave snow layers.

    Very excited for this! While we're here: I'm hoping that this time, rather than there being only 1 main competition with 1 main winner, the game has multiple shorter competitions (monthly, maybe?) with multiple mini resets. This way one person can't take the lead early on, and instead lets others who may be unavailable early after Decked Out opens join in later with a fresh slate. Monthly winners could get some kind of benefit in the next month's competition, but are only allowed to win Once.

    For the cards, I'd make the text and numbers larger so they're more readable.
    As for what's overpowered, the Draw 2 card is _very_ powerful. If you can get as many as you want later on, you can basically trigger your whole deck instantly. It probably needs some sort of cost, or limitation on not drawing more cards off a draw effect.

    • @xstudent4890
      @xstudent4890 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      As a professional QA tester, I second the recommendation for larger text/numbers.
      I'd also recommend slightly larger icons, and using contrasting colors to make text/numbers pop out, and maybe changing the number's font, so 7 is less likely to be confused with 1.
      And an easy way to make sure your cards are readable, is to hand them to Scar, and have him read them back to you. ;)

      @@jackiemaass5425 it does nothing on its own, it is just a counter that builds up. The use is that some cards will spend focus for a benefit - so having let's say 10 focus means nothing for your run.

    I think the cards won't feel effective to the players unless they know they're being activated, especially if a voice can read out the name of the specific card so the player knows what's going on and can strategise. I don't know if you'll be able to do this in minecraft, though, with sound distance limits.

    One keyword I think could open up your design of cards is "Innate" (like from slay the spire). These cards could be guaranteed to trigger first before any non-innate cards, so it gives the player a little control for cards like Flee with Extra Flee. The could mostly have a downside, like "Take it Slow - Innate, delay your next card draw by 30 seconds" or "Swirling Thoughts - Innate, block your next focus".
