I met Edd in Norway at Audi shop while I was waiting for my car to be fixed. I did Ask him why he left the show. He said the new American set-up was all about making more money to the producers thus cutting down on what made the UK version a success - a friendly program for car enthusiasts ....
@@mrbadiuzzaman I agree, if you're going to watch yet another Americanised car show, might as well watch one that's funny because very few of them are true to life.
Yep Mike just seems like a he's still bitter about Ed leaving, could've easily used this to explain the situation whilst not knocking Ed at all - instead he uses the opportunity to chuck Ed under the bus a bit, trying to say that him leaving the show placed the future of the show in doubt etc.
It's not about being 'bigger' than the show. It's about integrity. I followed WD for 13 years. After Edd left, I left too. For me, he was the show and I now follow him on his new channel.
Educate me please which channel and show is this? WD for me is a shadow of its former self. I like Elvis Priestley but not the format and I couldn't stand the guy before him.
Me as well, i caught the show purely channel surfing one day and stopped for a few minutes on Edd having to design and make a tool to complete an engine strip and I was hooked by the skill of this guy. When he left I lost that excitement for the show.
It's funny how when Ed tells his version of this, he was incredibly respectful and threw nobody under the bus. And then you hop over to here and get Mike's story...
Mike is now a hollywood bloke, so he does what his handlers tell him to do. Why do you think they flash the masonic nr 33 on every episode since Edd's departure. Sorry Mike, but the show was Edd. We don't want to watch these soap operas that you have agreed upon..
Exactly the same for me. Mike can say whatever he wants, but what he's doing now and calling it a show is just a "walking dead" since Edd left. I enjoy Edd China's Workshop channel, where he really works on cars, that's what he really wanted and that's why he left the Americanized car-soap opera Wheeler Dealers. Unfortunately Edd now has only about 570.000 followers 🤣, but a real man has to do what he has to, respect Edd!
I met Mike at a mini show years ago and I’ve rarely met such a vacuous gap of personality as I did that day. Proper let down after being a fan for years. If there isn’t a camera on him or a mic in his hand he’s difficult to communicate with on any kind of level. Ed was the man. 🤷🏼♂️
I don't know anyone who didn't fast forward through the cringe-fest test drives and haggling Brewer did to get to the actual workshop segments where Ed was actually fixing it and showing us how stuff worked. I don't think he thought he was bigger than the show, I think he knew what the core audience liked.
What the (hard-)core audience likes is often of little concern since die hard fans are often hard to please and easy to anger. Since Discovery is trying to get a program on TV making sure that it appeals to a large audience is more important. I for sure also preferred the workshop segments. Having said that, after Ed left the show still seems to be going strong whereas things have been quite quiet on the Ed front, apart from a TH-cam show that apparently ended after one episode and he's now seemingly trying to give it another go but tbh I'm not sure that'll go anywhere either.
What really pissed me off is after he knocks the price right down he then proceeds to crow on how he made such a great deal and makes the seller look stupid.
Completely agree Tom, well said 👍🏻 I never hated the Mike bits but they were sooo cringey (maybe because it was a TV show). I think most people like you and me etc watched the show for the Ed bits. He is so talented and great to watch on TV.
Edd stated he left because they were cutting back on the workshop segments, so less work to do (reduced time setting up for the multiple camera takes) and Mike says "he wanted to work less". Look at the new show, there's lots less time spent in the workshop, so something doesn't tally up?
I watched the new format with Ant after the supposed relaunch and it felt exactly like the same show. I don't know if they went back on "cutting down the camera shots" after backlash or if I just don't notice...
@@gamerguy425 It seemed to be that in the new show it started to drift into showing most of the work, not all of it (dodgy wheels and knackered interior were suddenly sorted and never mentioned). I did like Ant, seemed a nice guy, and if he was happy with the new format then why would he not do it. It just seemed slightly less of a show for me.
I have heard about 3 versions of this story. The only consistent one is that Ed was unhappy with the reduced workshop segments. At least Mike has toned his fairytale down a bit, suspect a lawyer was involved...
Edd is a technician of perfection. He wanted to show the whole process of repairing vehicles as opposed to quick cuts here and there. He was the ONLY reason I loved the show! Haven't watched it and I won't watch it now.
Probably because it was in the script or profits had to be made? Or are you talking about his content on TH-cam? I haven't really gotten a grasp of it as it seems to be a bit all over the place. I'm glad that we have the occasionally mind bending stop motion stuff from @GeorgeKarellas / Soup Classic Motoring
And totally irrelevant comment award goes to..... These plonkers that stamp up and down about the old days, pre budgets, and pre American cars, pre prestige cars, pre American series, pre Ant. And the same with literally every car show ever. Yet they don't realise the retardation of their angst. Surely if you like cars, you watch car shows? All of em? Ed was great but Ant is very good too. Now Ed is making irregular, poorly financed, poorly edited and poorly conceived programs on YT. Wahoo! Way to go Ed! You blew it son. Totally blew it. But you have about 3% of the fan base that will get you about £25k a year in YT royalties. Mega move Ed. Slow claps.
@@lennycook206 I don't watch the cars show on television any longer. The production, the stupid drama, the hurry to get to the end results, and etc is pathetic. Ant Antstead was better to watch on "For the Love of Cars". And no doubt with all the money China had made working the "Wheeler Dealers" show for 13 years he ain't concerned about a piffling 25k a year.
I think we all feel the same Wee Jim.... The odd show on a big Yank Muscle Car was a nice change but not one every week.... The other thing with the show being filmed in the UK was finding a company who could strip and repair a wizzbit for you for £40 when a new one was £400
I mean we're Americans we don't know shit about motoring. send us your shitty driver and they will clap every single professional on the grid in the states. Look at Haas two rookies this season what is the point of this exercise to win championships or just keep people employed. I am fully well aware of where the factory is however it's an American owned team.
@@joshuachandra6677 I totally agree with you. Nikita Mazipin's dad is pretty much funding the whole team (like Lance Stroll's dad) so his son can be a "professional" race driver. Mick Schumacher is there to get some sponsors because of his last name. Obv, they've figured out they can't compete for a championship so they've decided to keep the team going. kinda sad actually. I guess they are hoping they can compete in a few years if budget caps get low enough.
As an American, I completely agree with you. I can't stomach watching old muscle cars getting rebuilt, restomodded, and auctioned off. That is the content of basically every American car show. Never could watch Top Gear USA either, it's not Top Gear. I'm much more interested in old sports cars being restored, as a former owner of 2 Fiat 124 Spiders (real ones, not the current Fiata) back in the 70s and a 1974 TVR 2500M.
From what I can gather Edd was quite happy to stick with the simple set up of wheeler dealers in the early days. He is a modest down to earth guy who simply wanted to explain to us how to fix up old cars in our own sheds. I lost interest in the show when it became a flashy drama with movie like scripts and camera angles with a new mechanic going around loving himself. I would have been frustrated like Edd with unnecessary change going in the wrong direction.

Ego ? And writing the script, negotiating with producers, chasing the cars, getting in touch with multiple owners, etc etc. The format of the show is quite simple: two guys get the job of trading an old car done. Saying one one was doing more work than the other is simply untrue.
Did he just throw Edd under the bus? Wow!!! I feel sorry for Mike because regardless of what happened he did not need to disrespect Edd. That says a lot about the character of a man.

The end came when they started the US show. It was so fun to watch the early seasons, fixing cars on small budgets. Edd is an engineer and inventor not just a mechanic. Love that Edd is back and on the old continent !

At the end of the day ant is a better mechanic and Ed didn't go into the exact detail when ant shows you what to do draws diagrams ect Ed is a good mechanic but that's it not an exceptional one
His cameo on Bad Obsession told me all I ever need to know about the guy, he's the car mechanic's car mechanic and Mike is a second hand car salesman who's milking a few minutes of fame which he wouldn't have without Edd's charm and talent.
Utter nonsense. Mike had been in different tv shows and also has several businesses and is a multi millionaire. You’re just telling lies. You need to grow up and deal with the truth not hateful propoganda
It's just a tv show where actors/presenters get hired to do whatever it takes to make the show, so it's just busines and not a marriage. Ed and Mike don't own the WD series, they are just hired and have contracts with producers, studio owners, tv stations, writers, etc etc, so it's just a company where people have a job, and as in every job people work with other people, and new people will come and old people will go and that's life, and that's no difference with tv celebs. And what happend is that they needed to cut the cost, because the show was already running for 15 years so the view rates went down and what they wanted is to cut corners on the detailed procedures of the restoration, because it takes a large crew to record the show, and time is money because a crew get payed by the hour, so to save Ed's salary, they needed to cut back on the details so he should have been happy because less work and get payed the same, but no, his ego got hurt, so it was his way or the highway, and the producers just choose for the highway and hired a new Ed and since then the show went on and new episodes are made, so it still works without Ed, and that proves that everyone can be replaced. We had about 6 actors who played james bond, so when anyone can become the new bond, then sure any mechanic can fix cars on WD. When i would be Ed, i would swallow my pride and begg to get back on WD, because shows like that can pay up to 50.000 dollars and even more per episode, so he could retire in notime.
@@3DPeter Third mechanic in a couple of years at this point. Edd was the special part. He isn't just a mechanic, he's a qualified engineer, that was the difference. A mechanic can fix stuff, but they can't all explain the whys and wherefores, Edd could. I watched it for educational purposes, and Brewer and his cameos were a tiny part of any knowledge on offer, and the part I could happily have lived without. I'd have rather seen Edd do the buying and selling too, but that's why his channel is a success. Whereas they've already had two new grafters since Edd left, and WD isn't doing so well for itself. The majority by far of the people that watched WD, watched it for the cars and the fixes. Now Edd gets to do it properly and make money for himself with a wider remit and less prohibitions. His channel is what WD should have been, fixing cars and engineering challenges. Can't say I'm sorry it worked out like this. Unless you're interested in the process of flipping cars, Mike was never worth the screen time.
@@kimcousins1125 Ironically he wasn't. At least, that wasn't his career. He's an engineer by trade which is why he was so good at explaining how things worked. A standard mechanic just knows what goes where, they often don't know why, or care, as long as it works. That's what made Edd worth watching. He was, and is, a fantastic teacher.
Ed was the only reason to watch Wheeler Dealers, you can clearly see that the guy has a true passion for cars (not just a flipper) that nobody else can or will ever replace.
I met Edd a lot back in our hot rod and custom car days. A real nice guy and definately no ego...i wouldn't want to do all the hard work and long hours either wilst the presenter took all the glory. Edds creations speak for themselves with a selection of them in the national motor museum.
100% agree with what you said. Even if what Mike said or a sliver of it was true, Edd had every right to be mad. He's the one fixing everything while Mike does Jack.
It really is a nasty quality of character Brewer displays with all this bad mouthing. The way he blames Edd for costing Brewer and the crew their jobs by leaving. Then there's that video where he's answering the same question but he doesn't know he's being filmed. Disgraceful behaviour.
Do you have a link to that video rocklobster ?? Brewers a goshite and really doesn't like being corrected or told he may be wrong. I got blocked on twitter when i said Wheeler Dealers is crap after Ed left.
Do you know the fella personally? To make such a derogatory comment about someone you don’t says a lot more about you than it does about him. From what I’ve seen of Brewer on the show over many years he’s an extremely knowledgable guy and as straight as a die. I can see how some people don’t appreciate his delivery at times but without him nobody would ever know who Ed China was.
Brewer has only one thing on his mind and thats " Brewer TV" ....I watched Edd on TH-cam yesterday and can't wait for more of his content, he explains and shows the problem and solutions so well, and the best thing no dick head co presenter 👍
The camera shows more than people talking. It reveals personality and character. I tend to accept Edd's explanation and to his credit, he explained his departure without slagging off Mike Brewer.
Dear Mike, I’m 99% sure I speak for all wheeler dealer viewers when I say, We watched it for Edd! Fast forwarded your cringe where possible or muted it. The star of show was never allowed to shine, but guess what? He did
Whole heartedly agree! I mean the term "like a used car salesman" is used in derogatory fashion. No one cared about the phony negotiations or him "just popping in" to see how Edd was travelling. I loved the early episodes where Edd would show you problem areas on certainly models of older cars and how to diagnose or address them! That and I can never get tired of a hoist being called a "ramp" 🤣🤣
I've tried, but the car fixing scenes are fast forwarded by the production team, so you basically learn nothing from watching them. I remember when Edd was doing bits on discoverys Classic car club. That's about the same time when I started to watch Wheeler dealers. So it was around 2005'ish
Once you get over the bad side of what happened by Edd leaving, give Ant a chance. I first didn't like it too, but once you get used to the new guy, you'll see he's nothing short of Edd
All about greed, trying to chase the big US $$$$$ nothing else! I also think mike thought he was the star and didn't like the fact Edd was more popular than him!
C’mon we all know Edd was getting screwed by Discovery Channel company and was cutting his repairs out. The show is not the same without Edd. You were perfect together...
I quit the show before ed leaving as the US version was getting boring, I noticed there wasn't much repair sections like it used too. And call BS on ed thinking he was bigger the show, Ed has said he missed home his family and the show was cutting down his sections which is why the show so successful
It sometimes takes someone of the same trade to appreciate just how good someone is. I’m a full time truck mechanic, and Ed made it look so easy. He’s clearly a very, very talented mechanic. The U.K. is still *just* intelligent enough to appreciate Ed’s role more than Mikes.
I was never convinced with his replacement. He just seemed to be reading scripts all the time and the real work was probably done by someone else off camera. When you watch Edd work it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing and it's also clear that he does things himself - even when he needs a helping hand from Paul.
100%. I liked Mike for the most part even though I find him annoying at times. With that said I think their chemistry was quite good; but Ed China MADE that show and it has not been the same since he left. I don't even watch any longer as a result, only old episodes.
Of course the show died when Edd left. No disrespect to Mike, but the only bits anyone watched were the workshop bits with Edd. The premise of the show ("We show you how to buy, do up and sell on classics for a profit") was always completely flawed because it assumed you had a fully kitted out workshop complete with whizzkid mechanic that didn't cost you anything! But it was still engaging and entertaining because of the superb presentation of the workshop component. It's good to see Edd's new show being so well received.

Funny that, everyone I know who has met Mike says he’s completely genuine and is really engaged with enthusiasts whereas Edd is the arrogant prick who has no time for anyone and is quite rude
I expect Mike could open his own wine business with this amount of sour grapes. WD was Edd. Period. But we're now lucky enough to be able to watch Edd doing what we want on his own channel. Bring on the Range Rover!
The American producers wanted to shorten the scenes, from when Ed was putting things right from sourcing, removal, replacing/servicing & fitting the parts. Ed’s personality & magic is the main attraction, you can get any old used car salesman to do the other bits. Ed is King 👑
To work less? That is 100% different to Ed’s version. Their versions are too different. I totally believe that Ed was frustrated by how much work he was putting in compared to how much of it ended up on screen.
The Q&A with Paul on Edd's show was interesting (on Edd's channel which is excellent IMO). Paul did the surveys on the vehicles, which Mike took the onscreen credit for, Edd did the onscreen jobs (The A, B & C jobs as Paul called them) then Paul and the other mechanics did all the other work that wasn't for filming

Edd was a true gent explaining why he left and wished Mike and Ant well, yet Mike slags/slates Edd and blames him for being arrogant, greedy, etc - which I found quite sad/hurtful. You see how good friends they were, joking, etc then Mike does that(?!) Really saddens me.
And he gave the reason why with no abuse sarky comments or any tint of hate just love for the guy and a very plausible excuse to Ed’s exit. We all have gone through this or will depending on age 😃 with friends and colleagues. Ed him self has never bashed Mike.
You could tell he had enough. The guy that does all the work is always the most frustrated one on the crew. Edd was just a worker that had enough of his job. The show must go on. This is Mikes baby and ant will be next to go, Being a mechanic sucks to begin with and i imagine production was relentless on the poor guy.
I think that Mike Brewer is being honest to a point here. I don't think Edd is lazy or wanted specifically to do less work. I think the extended work schedule combined with a desire from the network / producers to have less and less technical in the show, more and more "product placement" visits to companies that make and sell parts, and so on. Remember, season 13 was the first season with Disocvery networks at the helm and not Attaboy Productions. So it left Edd with as much work time to do, less actually to do on the shows, and much more a show about bolting on the parts that Mike sourced. So much in the last couple of years that Edd was there changed, from production company to the flow of the show. Gone was the searching the weekly inkies for a car, the purchases were pre-made, the sales at the end were pre-made, and a lot more time spent on companies willing to either pay for space or make their products available for free / reduced rate to the production. The choices of cars got higher end, they needed a lot less TLC and much more detailing and bolting on of shiny bits. I am sure for Edd it was turning into a waste of time, he is at heart a mechanic and a worker, he wants to be doing stuff. Having to work the same amount if not more on the production but actually to be accomplishing less was probably not where he wanted to go. The change of management, direction, and likely a certain loss of power make it not something Edd needed to be part of anymore. Mike's made himself a good life off it and good on him, but I have more respect for Edd getting out before it got silly.
I agree 100% with your assessment of the show & it’s change of direction which ultimately led to Ed leaving .... I’d also add that Mike’s ‘interference’ segments where he would fix the interiors of the vehicles made the show look cheap ....this guy had presented himself as the ‘Wheeler Dealer’ who chased down bargain purchases all over the world for over 12 years suddenly became an expert in Upholstery, Cockpit Fitting & Dashboard Instillation overnight rendering Ed both redundant AND effectively surplus to requirement .... I believe Mike had a lot more to do with Ed’s departure than he would care to admit ...unintentionally perhaps but nonetheless he knew the Ed WAS the show .... n yes perhaps even bigger than the show ....
@@mikeyb4610 The proof that "Edd was the show" is in the fact that they are now on their second replacement, trying to hit magic. Ant was very good but at a certain point, the show pained him. Met both of them at the classic motor show in the NEC back in the mid 2000’s. It is a shame as when the show was in the uk it was fantastic
We don’t want Brewer’s soul (us Americans). Edd felt like the real deal and I liked that. I hated when they made the move to California, there are plenty of shows showing American cars and I no longer saw the English and European cars which made the show really interesting.
thats why i watched it to learn the little tricks on diy mechanics mike has sold out, edd saw that the role he did was not going to be the point of the show if anyone was willing to fight for what the show was would be edd but mike had the dollar signs in his eyes and to bring edd down is just shows he respects money over friendship
Not blame us (Americans) for this. I watched the show for Edd. Had they moved to the US for a season it would be interesting just because different types of cars that you could watch Edd learn. Bad to move to try to make it a permanent thing. I guess it’s ok because Edd has his own TH-cam show he’s starting which he will be doing all the stuff we loved watching him do.

Absolutely agree.Funnily enough I actually abated and watched TG on Sunday night.I cringed at how bad it was compared to the original Clarkson trio. BBC should drop it and their pointless licence fee to boot.
It saddens how Mike always puts down Edd, with comments like “he thought he was bigger than the show and he could leave and the show would die”, but Edd has always said that the show was changing and was moving away from the mechanical side (which is the only reason I watched) to being about the hunt for a vehicle and the production team wanted to cut corners, which he thought would be unsafe, it shows the true character of Mike, that rather than say “Edd wanted the show to go in a different direction” and leave it at that, he says “Edd thought if he left the show would die”, Mike really should be disgusted in himself for treating as he puts it “my best friend” like that, as for the show, I liked the old format, doing up the cars was the show for me, I have nothing against Ant the new mechanic, but I will never watch Wheeler Dealers again and I wish Edd China the great of luck in everything he does in the future.
I totally agree with the comments by the other fans, I'm fairly certain Edd didn't think he was bigger than the show, and to my mind he kinda "was the show", dont get me wrong, I liked the "too and fro" between him and Mike, but Edds ingenuity, mechanical skill & warm presentation style was the real entertainment. I also kinda got the feeling from watching the show that Mike felt he was the main presenter, as I'd heard him on more than one occasion say "MY Mechanic, EDD", which at the time smacked a bit of patronising. Was Mike Edd's salesman and go getter? I might be overreacting a bit, but Id thought this before Edd left the series. I've seen WD since, and although its OK, I wouldn't put myself out to watch it in the same way as I would've with Edd's contributions.
Edd left and so did many of us, never watched the show since. Chiefly because I've always felt Ant comes across as arrogant. Mike always bought cars that were tons of work and it was Edd's talent that turned them into great cars again. There are many people who could do Mike's bit, less so Edd's. Good luck to them both and thanks for the memories. I will be sticking with Edd, which you can now see on his new channel on TH-cam!
I miss Ed. The American version of the show, doesn't really do it for me. I have recorded virtually all of the UK ones and repeatedly watched them. With the US version, I honestly don't really feel it. I'm not interested in seeing American cars being done up. There's already plenty of them shows. I was so happy to see one of Ants first projects being the escort cosworth and thought the show was getting back to its roots. Then it went squiffy in the US again. Ant is fantastic with fabrication and some of the work he's done is remarkable. He's clearly talented. Just wish he would wear gloves sometimes though but hey, his hands. I'm sure the American market is doing them well. Still sold out though on the soul of the show imho. I'll watch it if there's nothing else. Sadly not something I make time for or record now. Each to their own and best wishes to all.
I cannot understand anyone who says "I'm not interested in seeing xxxxxx cars being done up" where xxxxxx represents a country of origin. No one who says something like that can truly call themselves a gearhead/petrolhead, it's just ugly sectarianism. The worst part of your comment is that while in the US they actually did more European and Japanese cars than American cars.
@@CaptHollister Well, there are plenty of people that don't like this kind of thing full stop. I can't understand them. What's your point? There's lot's of American car shows as it is. All doing various things to various types of cars. I don't need validation from you or anyone else about what I choose to call myself. Although, it's none of the options you provide. Whilst I recognise it's not all American cars, I do reserve the right to enjoy the ones that are not thank you.
For a UK orientated show we have Car SOS now. With more emphasis on the restoration process. Even that risks lessening now bit comes at it from a different angle. But wheeler dealers can't race this now.
Edd was the engine behind WD and made the show work. I always saw Brewer as the part of the show the producers could have improved upon. Nice to see Edd now has a weekly show and I wish all the success for him in his new en devour
Edd was not only the best car mechanic I knew, he was also one of the most well opinionated people I've ever seen he saw what the show really wanted to gain and knew why everyone loved him. He could clearly see what the shows intentions were from the new setup. Good on you Edd.
Edd comes across as a really smart, knowledgeable, intelligent chap who knows his stuff....contrast this with that snivelling, spud faced second rate Arthur Daley lookalike mike brewer. It was Edd that got me into WD with his knowledge and good looks ❤️
The show was about the work shop, the other segments were interesting but the meat & potatoes were always in the mechanics. I’m sure Ant is good but the show suffered a blow when Ed was replaced, as fans of the show know, Ed’s moaning & Mike’s cajoling were an essential part of the dynamic. I hope they make peace, it would be a shame not to see the guys become mates again, life’s too short to waste on falling out.
That hokey messing when Edd pretended to moan all the time was just part of the act. It would be interesting to see what members of the crew have to say about the issue.
@@casinodelonge Exactly, I always felt for Mike as he cajoled his mate into taking on a major piece of work, knowing Edd couldn’t wait to get it taken apart. I wish Mike would have kept schtum about any personal issues and had the good grace to acknowledge that Edd (apart from being brilliant) is a grown man and makes his own decisions, leaving the door open for a renewed friendship. I’ve seen another video where Mike is less than polite about Edd and yet Edd has been civil throughout this sad affair, even asking trolls to leave Mike & family alone. Oh well, we have 12 seasons to remind us of what a car show can be.

Real mate mike, thrown Edd right under the bus, he never thought he was bigger than the show and you know that for a fact ! I think he thought his mate for a long time would stick with him when negotiating for the new show, it was obvious from the comments Edd made he was very disappointed with you, sadly a fact of life these days but for a few money wins every time even over the best of friendships, your derogatory comments on Edd whilst trying to deflect the criticism you was receiving was anything other than what you would expect from a true mate, what a sour way to end such a great show .
The actual fixing car's side was obviously getting destroyed by the new production company to say anything else is utterly disingenuous which is why edd left.
Well thats because one of his many reasons must be BS Edd said, he left because Discovery wanted more "selling time" and less workshop. Now Mike claims Edd was the one who wanted less workshop time? He had many "main reasons" one time it was mony, less working, more working, back to the uk, deeper into the work etc...pick one
So Ant , why did YOU leave the show , and how/why did it take you less time to come to the realisation that there might be better things to do in life than hang with Mike ?
I think Ed knew his popularity in becoming a more integral part of the show was ever increasing. He was the creative one who produced the tangible transformations via the cars, let's face it, that's why most of us watched the show, not the cringey and staged test drive's at the end of each episode with Mike Brewer.
I keep watching Edd and Mike repeats..so entertaining..a rare combination that worked so well. Two completely different personalities. A magic formula.
I met Edd in Norway at Audi shop while I was waiting for my car to be fixed. I did Ask him why he left the show. He said the new American set-up was all about making more money to the producers thus cutting down on what made the UK version a success - a friendly program for car enthusiasts ....
Yeap, stopped watching Wheeler Dealer after they shifted focus to America for the same reason Edd mentioned.

I loved the show with Ed. Haven’t watched it since he left. He was basically 85% of the show. Why still watch?
What really pissed me off is after he knocks the price right down he then proceeds to crow on how he made such a great deal and makes the seller look stupid.
Completely agree Tom, well said 👍🏻 I never hated the Mike bits but they were sooo cringey (maybe because it was a TV show). I think most people like you and me etc watched the show for the Ed bits. He is so talented and great to watch on TV.
Ed did not want the Hollywood fake TV stuff
Edd stated he left because they were cutting back on the workshop segments, so less work to do (reduced time setting up for the multiple camera takes) and Mike says "he wanted to work less". Look at the new show, there's lots less time spent in the workshop, so something doesn't tally up?
The truth is always somewhere in the middle.People sometimes just get fed up,I presume their both reasonabley well off

It's just a tv show where actors/presenters get hired to do whatever it takes to make the show, so it's just busines and not a marriage.
Ed and Mike don't own the WD series, they are just hired and have contracts with producers, studio owners, tv stations, writers, etc etc,
so it's just a company where people have a job, and as in every job people work with other people, and new people will come and old people will go
and that's life, and that's no difference with tv celebs. And what happend is that they needed to cut the cost, because the show was already running for 15 years
so the view rates went down and what they wanted is to cut corners on the detailed procedures of the restoration, because it takes a large crew to
record the show, and time is money because a crew get payed by the hour, so to save Ed's salary, they needed to cut back on the details so he should have been happy
because less work and get payed the same, but no, his ego got hurt, so it was his way or the highway, and the producers just choose for the highway and hired a new Ed
and since then the show went on and new episodes are made, so it still works without Ed, and that proves that everyone can be replaced.
We had about 6 actors who played james bond, so when anyone can become the new bond, then sure any mechanic can fix cars on WD.
When i would be Ed, i would swallow my pride and begg to get back on WD, because shows like that can pay up to 50.000 dollars and even more per episode,

REAL talent is keeping your awesome T-shirts clean on the job!
I was never convinced with his replacement. He just seemed to be reading scripts all the time and the real work was probably done by someone else off camera. When you watch Edd work it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing and it's also clear that he does things himself - even when he needs a helping hand from Paul.
THE US ruins everything..
Hyper drama.. Ugh.
When Ed went the show died for me 🥺
I dont watch the show anymore since Edd left!
Ant and Elvis are good and capable, but the show was born and died with Edd China. There's nothing to do...
Definitely. There was a certain element Edd brought to the show that Ant can't do. I find Ant irritating
Me too,never watched the new show,never will.The boss's should've done a deal with him,there loss.
100%. I liked Mike for the most part even though I find him annoying at times. With that said I think their chemistry was quite good; but Ed China MADE that show and it has not been the same since he left. I don't even watch any longer as a result, only old episodes.
Interesting to see Ed’s video on why he left got 10m views, his hint at a new Chanel got 300k views in 3 days, ED is the one we come for .........
*Edd
When I saw Edds interview on leaving the show I thought he wished Mike and Ant every success that didn't sound like he wanted wheeler dealers to die
100% agree. I always felt Ed was very sincere a person.
More Brewer lies. This guy keeps changing his story and it's funny this comes out a day or so before Edd announces his new venture on YT!
And did Mike just announce ANOTHER TRADE show? Ugh...
This interview is a year old, and hasn't been published by MB just a you tube channel that's taking advantage off Edds new show looking for Muppets to get more views and income.
@@novadose1975 Hello Muppet, you sound just like Gonzo, I hope you are at least half as beautiful as him 🤣 OMG, no... you are a Muppet Brewer personally!
I’m glad I ain’t got mates like Mike. Loyalty goes a long way. The show finished when Ed left. Shame on you Mike.
brewer is greedy,spineless snake
Childish wally. Ed chose to leave. He had tantrums and spat his dummy out. I’d like to know how is that Mikes fault? Mike is an employee of the network not the boss !
Funny that, everyone I know who has met Mike says he’s completely genuine and is really engaged with enthusiasts whereas Edd is the arrogant prick who has no time for anyone and is quite rude
Lmao, Mike's a great guy and you're full of shit 😜
@@Milkman69ner you mixed up Edd and Mike there
Let's be honest....the ENTIRE reason wheeler dealers was ever successful in america was because of Edd.
That’s a fact my friend
I expect Mike could open his own wine business with this amount of sour grapes. WD was Edd. Period. But we're now lucky enough to be able to watch Edd doing what we want on his own channel. Bring on the Range Rover!
Ed’s channel is boring and dull. He hardly puts any content out. I’d rather watch Matt Armstrong
The American producers wanted to shorten the scenes, from when Ed was putting things right from sourcing, removal, replacing/servicing & fitting the parts. Ed’s personality & magic is the main attraction, you can get any old used car salesman to do the other bits. Ed is King 👑
The show is not the same without Edd has lost something special.
To work less? That is 100% different to Ed’s version. Their versions are too different. I totally believe that Ed was frustrated by how much work he was putting in compared to how much of it ended up on screen.
Fully agree.
Agree, Edd said he left because Discovery wanted "less workshop time" not him
exactly.
Top class mech's like Edd have priorities...the job and convey good info to the show..the other one was a low class self indugent car sales man, and in no way a star..Edd was the star

Edd's new youtube series is great. Like the old show fixing vehicles for the common man with some new toys. Edd is watchable on his own.
The reason Edd left was because they wanted him to cut corners on his amazing mechanical skills and knowledge and experience, and he refused which is amazing as THAT in it's self is a dangerous situation to be in.
That's like a mechanic only putting half your brake's back together on you racing car!!!!!
Well said Ivan....There were two people...One Edd to do it and Mike to sell it but you cant derate the brains behind this....Edd would fit in anywhere, Mike on a forecourt with the spiel
Luckily Ed is back on YT with his new show. It's brilliant.
His new show's better than Wheeler Dealers!
I was an Ed guy, but then I became a Mike guy.
What’s YT and when is it on .
@Charlie B Edd left because he was unhappy with the change in format, production company, Americanisation, etc - he was not alone in this, I felt the same.
It's Edd btw
The show was always best filmed in Britain and the best part was seeing Ed do his magic in the workshop
Yep definitely.
Totally agree
This.
I miss Ed but I just realized that I've never missed Brewer.
Edd doesn't make it personal. Mike does. Lack of class.
It went from we're best mates to he ended our carrier within 2 minutes lol, love the honesty.
"Edd is a great guy and I won't hear a bad word spoken about him", though I'll now make a few comments.
He’s just telling his side of the story. He was asked a direct question about why Edd left.
@@yamaha226 Ant is already gone with the last season (series).
He didn’t say a bad word against him, I would just say he’s seeing it from both sides.
@@mikeyb4610 yeah I think Mike was trying to take back some real estate. Wasn't his to begin with.
@@mikeyb4610 The proof that "Edd was the show" is in the fact that they are now on their second replacement, trying to hit magic. Ant was very good but at a certain point, the show pained him. Compared to For the Love of Cars, he didn't really get to show the love he truly has for cars. His own stand alone series was MUCH better. Edd's new series is super slow paced but it's like watching a mate work while you have a drink and he explains what he's doing in between entertaining stories.
Soz, I missed that, say it again
Basically the Americanisation ruined the show. Those early British shows which I have on DVD were gold.
No way did Ed think he was bigger than the show!! More like he was becoming more prominent / popular. I don't know anyone who enjoyed Mike's overacting segments.
At the end of the day I would think that Ed wanted more creative control, which was his right. hell they've been doing it forever.
Maybe that was the problem. Maybe the problem was Edd was becoming very popular with fans and Mike became jealous of Edd’s new found fame?
@@spacecat7247 The show wanted to cut his in-depth segments right down which meant that Ed couldn't fully explain what he was actually doing. An let's face it that's why we all watched it. Nobody was watching it for Mike's fake over the top negotiations.
@@tiprat5051 yeah that's what it seems that I'm finding out and that's not right at all he was the star of the show and yes we watched the show because of what he did and the way he did it and of course because of him.

Edd China and the detailed coverage of his work was the best part of the programme. Something was lost when this was dropped.
It is not a surprise that Ed got angry. He is doing the hard work. Sorry Mike, you where just showing off. It is not gentleman like by bashing him.
If you watch the newer shows since Edd has left, you can definitely see less content in the workshop, you notice things that have been done to the car at the end, which wasn't documented, which on the older shows, everything was documented. So I think there is some truth in what Edd said.
Yes...you are correct.....they do jump...from "hey how you did the interiery" and they jump directly to the cost of project.....what the hell
Met both of them at the classic motor show in the NEC back in the mid 2000’s. As usual Ed did all the hard work (trying to restore a classic Golf in 3 days) Mike signed autographs and posed for pictures and did nothing else. I was on the stand opposite and it was clear who the fans came to see (it certainly wasn’t Mike).
Mike sold his soul to the americans, he turned a great show to a pile of rubbish he also turned his back on the uk viewers who made him popular where he was, edd was the show and done all the hard work while mike goofed around doing nothing.

There was a whole team working on the rubbish mike hauled into the shop. We just never seen them on tv.
I don't even dislike Ant really. He's a good mechanic and likeable guy too imo. It's more my continuing dislike of Mike that keeps me from watching.

Edd was the engine behind WD and made the show work. I always saw Brewer as the part of the show the producers could have improved upon.
Nice to see Edd now has a weekly show and I wish all the success for him in his new en devour
Mike brewers body language and character just screams out “grifter” every time he talks. Ed was wheeler dealer. It was he who added value to the prog.
Edd was not only the best car mechanic I knew, he was also one of the most well opinionated people I've ever seen he saw what the show really wanted to gain and knew why everyone loved him. He could clearly see what the shows intentions were from the new setup. Good on you Edd.

@@casinodelonge Exactly, I always felt for Mike as he cajoled his mate into taking on a major piece of work, knowing Edd couldn’t wait to get it taken apart. Hello thanks for commenting on my videos
Edd is a master vehicle technician, he explained things very well, especially to a simpleton like me.
I'm sure ed loved being stuck in the workshop for 12 hours a day while Mike took care of all the hard work...
Question: Why did Edd China leave Wheeler Dealers?
Mike: **gives his version**
Internet: **cough** **bullshit** **cough**
Well thats because one of his many reasons must be BS
Edd said, he left because Discovery wanted more "selling time" and less workshop.
Like what? Marry the worlds most annoying and artificial b!tch on earth? That lasted long, about as long as his time on the show. lol
Pretty sure Ant left because the show was coming back to the UK and he wanted to stay in the USA.
Can you imagine Edd angry and "taking it out on the crew", what a load of crap.
I think Ed knew his popularity in becoming a more integral part of the show was ever increasing. He was the creative one who produced the tangible transformations via the cars, let's face it, that's why most of us watched the show, not the cringey and staged test drive's at the end of each episode with Mike Brewer.
Edd WAS the show. Work shy Mike "finks" he is the star. No, he is simply an irritation.
Regardless of the reasons for his departure, I think the show lost a lot without him.
I keep watching Edd and Mike repeats..so entertaining..a rare combination that worked so well. Two completely different personalities. A magic formula.
Surely, you do skip past the Fat Boy segments ?
