I can't imagine how hard it was to not only read all of these books but compiling all of the footage and editing so seamlessly. Your dedication to your videos is so impressive!

Never did I expect to find a 5 hour video about the Fear Street books! I literally have the entire collection in French (had not learned English yet). It’s funny to remember these books now because a lot of puns did not translate well. Even the name “Shadyside” was left untranslated and didn’t mean anything to me other than the fact that it was very hard to pronounce 😂
Fear Street is EVERYTHING to me. I've been waiting for this one! I just started the video on my TV and you've asked about memories of the series... I grew up in Ohio, near where R.L. Stine is from, and Shadyside is loosely based on the area. Because of this, one year when I was a kid, there was a Fear Street themed haunted house at our local theme park. I think I was nine the year they had this house. It was also my first haunted house that wasn't the "haunted hallway" my elementary school did during our Halloween dance. So, my whole family is there for Fear Fest and we're going through the house, and I'm happy enough because there are scenes from the books displayed all around, but I'm also lowkey a chicken, so I was getting creeped out. WELL... My Aunt goes "it'll be alright, Haley!" and you know.. you really shouldn't say people's names in haunted house, because next thing I know, the zombies and clowns in the last stretch of the haunted house are all reaching out from behind the walls and the bars and calling my name, and I bolted the last ten or twenty feet and out the door, and one of the clowns chased me out of the haunted house and several dozen feet down the path AND I SHIT MY PANTS. LITERALLY. So. Yeah...
OMG NO WAY hahaha that's so awesome and amazing but also I'd be terrified too!! Also I do apologise for the negativity in the video to a lot of the books, but I love that you love the series so much, I can totally see why and R L Stine is a legend!!
@@GavinReadsItAll It was actually the same theme park that's in the books The Beast & The Beast 2, as well. Those are loosely based on the scary story surrounding that rollercoaster. As much as I love Fear Street and R.L. Stine in general, a lot of the books are super cringe, so I totally get what you're saying about them! Especially when the ghostwriting started and you could just tell someone was given a vague idea. They were a stepping stone for me to get into horror and keep reading in the genre, but they're definitely not the best written works out there. I always love hearing your commentary and opinions on his books!
Also, Gavin, I just want to applaud you for calling these books out sometimes. I saw many of the comments you are talking about, You definitely don't need to censor yourself when you think something is important to bring up. Let those man babies cry about it. You are the only male booktuber I watch because I know you aren't going to randomly say some crazy shit about women. We can all tell you are a naturally empathetic person, which is refreshing considering how many people just don't care at all these days. And I genuinely enjoy your takes, and love the little glimpses into your life. You also make amazing videos! You give Taurus energy. Lmao 😂😂
shit i grew up reading these in early 2000s 😂😂😂 i still remember to this day how the lady in my library told me : honey you've read them all, we don't have any new ones, I'm sorry 😂😂😂😂 that was honestly the saddest day of my life at the time lmao
Here in Brazil we only had 15 volumes published. It's awesome to see the other books and know a little about them. Thanks Gavin. Now let's watch and enjoy this epic movie you gave to us. Love your long videos. ❤
I remember reading some of these books when I started high school and while they were okay and I definitely remember the plots they weren't my favorite. While the parents still are neglectful I do feel like that its affect of the era R.L. Stine grew up in and also need the parents to be out of the way. Growing up I was responsible for walking my brother to and from school even though I was only a grade above him. 2nd grade me was responsible for walking my 1st grade brother back home before our parents got home. Kids like myself were referred to as "Kids with Keys" and honestly child me probably overlooked the parents behavior in these books because of that, amongst other reasons. However this series made me think of something a person brought up in a documentary about urban legends I watched years ago. The person talked about how urban legends/scary stories have certain aspects that reflect fears of that age group. For example urban legends for children focus a lot on the supernatural and fantastical situations, while urban legends for teenagers are more grounded in reality but still fantastical, and urban legends for adults tend to be the most rooted in reality with darker themes. I feel like R.L. Stine's series reflect that because most of his series focus on unrealistic fears that children would appreciate, while the Fear Street series was definitely more geared to teenagers/preteens with more grounded fears but still need to suspend disbelief.
Gavin out here spoiling me with another full series video! You have no idea how many times I rewatch all your others. They are the most comforting videos!
Wow, congrats on finishing such an amazing video project!! I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of work that went into making this video, I really admire your commitment and dedication to video projects like this!! Well done, Gav 🥹👏
I’ve only read 1 of the original books as a kid, and that one was The Secret Bedroom, and from what I remember it was a pretty good book! I’ve also read 2 Fear Street trilogies (the cheerleaders and 99 fear street) and from what I remember those are very good books, would definitely recommend them to you if you plan on covering every Fear Street trilogy later down the line, lots of creepy supernatural shit going on in them!
Loved watching! My only memory of Fear Street was shelving the books at our school library in Grade 7 and 8 when I got to skip phys-ed class to help the librarian (bad situation with bullies in the class). I always wondered what they were about because they were so popular. But I was in my “book must include animals to be good or else be Nancy Drew” reading stage at that age. Lol. It was fun to learn more about them, and the covers were total nostalgia for me!
I know the series disappointed you, but I would recommend The Fear Street Saga. It's the origins of Fear Street. Think the Hatfields vs. The McCoys but with evil magic. Still lots of relationship drama, but it's less shallow because it's through multiple generations and swirled together with a family curse. Much meatier than the regular series imho.
2:54 omg these books were my childhood, along with a series of unfortunate events. i couldn’t read them all because they were my older sister’s and she didn’t buy the whole collection. also this was before i learned english so i couldn’t search for the originals. but i remember very well that my favorites were first Halloween Party and then the one with the club with scary stories (can’t remember the name in english), the one with the twins, wrong number and another one i can’t remember unfortunately. i’m so excited about this video!
I love the covers of these books! So pulp fiction like! I'm from Germany and grew up reading Fear Street, but our versions were black hardback covers with small drawings. Such a difference! I loved this video!
Omg I just found your channel & I love how in depth this video is because I love this series! I’m skipping to the reviews on the books I’ve already read because I don’t want to spoil the rest for myself, but I really want to just watch the whole video LOL😭I love your energy & your accent as well!!
As someone who loves these books and has collected them over the years, this is amazing 👏👏👏 Thank for doing this and literally saying what I've been thinking about a lot of the plot lines and copy and paste work regarding the majority of the books!
Thanks Gavin for bringing back my sweet memories reading some of these books. Really hope you make another videos for the spin off *fingers crossed. I remember liking The Cheater, The Boy Next Door, Truth or Dare, The Sleepwalker and The Stepsister.
Yay, Fear Street! I hope you’re able to do some of the spinoffs at some point too! And I love your ranting about the fake scares and ridiculous characters. Which reminds me, I read a recent interview with RL Stine that literally has the headline “I never planned to be scary.” Turns out humor was more his interest. That explains so much…even though I don’t know if you’d say most of the books are funny either.
Yes! Have this on while I work. I read so many of these in high school, years ago. Just looking at the titles I remember so many. Can't wait for the memories to flood over me
This series will always hold a special place in my heart, as they are the books that started my reading obsession. I still have all of my original copies from when I was a teen. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts. Great video!
Just realized what would be right up your alley for future sort of spooky teen aimed books with Drama: Christopher Pike novels. Not sure if he was ever big over there but he was always on display next to Stine's Fear Street with the twist being his were a bit darker and sexier yet still aimed at that same age range.
I finally found a room to move in that feels like a fresh and promising start, and this is going to be my companion for the last few days at my horrible current place, can't wait to dive in 🥰
Wow, talk about an ambitious video. I began reading these at about 9 or 10, around 1992. I couldn't get enough of them and read them as they were published until about '97 even though by then i had mostly moved on to reading my mother's Stephen King collection. I still actually have them all and even pick up one every now and again to read just for the nostalgia.
Ok, I don't have 5 hours right now so I'm definitely coming back. But I've spent the last 2ish years rereading all of Fear Street plus all of the spin off and companion books. I think I counted 152 on my spreadsheet, and I've got about 15 left to find and read (not including Ghosts of Fear Street since they are ghost written). Very interested in hearing your take on them while they're fresh in my mind.
I hadn’t realized you didn’t read the Super Chillers either! They’re just a bit longer than the usual Fear Street books but I loved them just as much. There’s so many you still have to go! I’m sorry you didn’t love these; I reread them all not too long ago as well. They were definitely more fun as a teen but I’ll die on the Fear Street hill, lol.
I agree I think it’s good that you call out the shitty things in these books. I don’t think people understand the difference between accountability, critical thinking and “cancel culture”. We live in an evil world so honestly it’s refreshing to see you talk about these things.
Wow! I’ve read at least 40 of these, and it’s possible I’ve read the other 10 and don’t remember (I wouldn’t have remembered that I read The Face except that I recently found it at my parents’ house). The 10 I’m not sure I’ve read are: 32 College Weekend 34 What Holly Heard 40 Night Games 41 Runaway 42 Killer’s Kiss (title rings a bell more than the cover) 43 All Night Party 44 Rich Girl 45 Cat 50 Best Friend 2 51 Trapped (I kinda think I did read this) Bravo for 5 hours of Fear Street footage! 😮🎉
Incredible work! I absolutely loved this video and am totally going to add it to my go to rewatch list. I never read any of these, but I remember being super creeped out by the covers as a kid at the used bookstores we used to go to.
Fear Street is why I am an avid reader. I liked Goosebumps as a kid, but in 4th grade I discovered Fear Street and I would go to the library and check out 12 at a time. I’m so excited for this!! (Also, I agree, The New Girl is a terrible opener.) I read the series out of order and I feel like that helped my enjoyment because I would pick and choose at random. I’d you decide to read the Super Chiller series (which have the better ones), you may want to read them out of order like with a wheel picker or based on the vibes because I feel like that series in particular is just more fun out of order.
omg 5 hrs 🎉🎉🎉🎉 incredible 😲 honestly Ive only ever watched the movies and unless that other series turns out to be great, it will stay that way 😂 I felt so bad for you sometimes having to read such horrors but omg, glad it ended well ❤❤❤
Watching your video made me realize that I didn't read many of the original books. I read the trilogies/sagas and some of the super chillers, which leaned more into the supernatural.
While I’ve always loved the Fear Street books, the spin-offs were always my favorite! Cheerleaders, 99 Fear Street, Sagas, the origin trilogy…so freaking good!
I’m trying to collect ALL the Fear Street books. These are the books that got me into reading. I have all the original series. Working on the others. So far my favorites (that I remember) are the Cheerleader books and Switched.
@@GavinReadsItAll I am so excited to get them all. I also have the Catalina and the Saga ones. I have all the others written down. I think I am going to start on the supper chillers next. 😁😁
Finally finished this video, it was fantastic! I'm so surprised at how many I remember reading. I read about ten of them, including Switched. 😂 I remember loving it as a child, because it was my first encounter with an unreliable narrator and that blew my mind. I saw someone rec Christopher Pike, and fair warning, at least one book (Kill Me Softly, if memory serves) has a creepy dude mc, so it might be Fear Street levels of the kinds of boys we see 😒🙄 Regardless, I really loved this video. I like your honesty and the humor you have when you do these long videos. 🖤
The biggest problem with the cliffhanger takeouts are that the things he suggests are happening are SO much cooler than what happens. I distinctly remember The Confession (following a bunch of the other weaker ones you rated 1-2 stars) being my "no thanks" when I was 13 and checking one out each week from the library. It's the old wrestling motto: if you're going to change plans what you deliver instead has to be even better than what was originally promised, not just as good (let alone way worse.)
That is the absolute best way of describing it and conveys my feelings so much!! Yes absolutely, it only sets us up for disappointment and when it’s done time and time and time again, it just makes me feel so deflated
Sir. Sir. The 99 fear street series is the reason I know where all local cemeteries are because to this day (I am 40) I hold my breath while passing. I am in awe. I didn't remember which of this series I've read but I was into this more than goosebumps
I’m not done with the video yet but I laughed out loud when you brought up the crazy third sister 😂 of course there is. I’m surprised I read some of these when I was teenager. Considering all the animal deaths. I guess I was tougher back then. A lot of these covers look familiar. I read a lot of Christopher Pike too. I wonder if they had animal death? Great job with the video.
I read some of these when I was younger. I did remember parts of them but my favourites were the cheerleaders series and the fear street sega. The betrayal, the secret and the burning ❤ I also remember the tattoos that came with the book. Haha 😆
I am so excited to get to those spin-off series! Love that you read them when you were younger, also love that the books actually came with tattoos haha that's so cool
I will say that in "The Secret Bedroom", Leah may have liked Don, but Don AND Marcy both chose to prank her and make think Don liked her. Marcy may have said for Leah to stay away from Don, but Don kept asking Leah out. Marcy needed to realize that if she told him to do it, or if he did it on his own, Don was done with that relationship and dumped him. And if Marcy was the one who told Don to tell Leah to meet him at the mall as well as her first prank in making Leah think Don liked Leah, that's on her. I wasn't rooting for Leah, but I got where she wanted revenge on Marcy and I accepted that Marcy did deserve to have Leah upset with her and wish for revenge. I was so happy when you got to "Trapped" as it's the one book I remember very well. I got it years ago and kept reading and rereading it.
This was my favorite series as a teen. I have not read all of them, but I do remember reading a good number. I think my favorite was "the surprise party."
5 hours!?!?!? Oh my god we are spoiledddddd
I can't imagine how hard it was to not only read all of these books but compiling all of the footage and editing so seamlessly. Your dedication to your videos is so impressive!
Thank you!
This should be named, "Watch Gavin slowly lose his mind over R.L. Stein being repetitive and strange in his writing choices." 😂 The camping line gave me a giggle, too.
Collecting prompts for when I do a rewatch of this as a drinking game: 😆
- cheating teens
- animal death
- "I could kill them"
- boy troubles = girl-on-girl violence
- the cliffhanger lied
- that boy is a future wife-beater
- someone pretending to be someone else
- "I just wanted to scare them"
Haha omg I may use this as a drinking game for when I read the spin offs 😂
I also wish writers would not use D.I.D. (Dissociative Identity Disorder) as a plot point for killing. Mental health is so villainized. It so frustrating!
SAME!! It was getting me so angry after a certain point
"I hate camping so much" oh the foreshadowing gav
Haha I was saying for MONTHS that I hate camping and then it happened 😂
What a production! Congratulations Gavin and thanks for “reading these so we don’t have to” 😜 glad it ended on a good note for you! 💖
Me too haha it was worth it in the end!
Never did I expect to find a 5 hour video about the Fear Street books!
I literally have the entire collection in French (had not learned English yet). It’s funny to remember these books now because a lot of puns did not translate well. A 5 hour video? jesus christ that must have taken ages to film and edit thank you Gavin for the amazing dedication 💜
Only 3 months haha

Haha I am, and thank you!!
5 hours?! YEESSSSS! Thank you Gavin! ❤❤❤
Thank YOU, I appreciate you ❤
After watching this 5-hour video, I'm just so, so relieved you liked Ski Weekend! :D That story lives in my head rent free
Suggestion: what if you read Nightmare Room by R. L. Stine. There's only 13 books and it's similar to Classic Goosebumps Series.
putting this in my watch later list. i've been waiting for this one! thank you for all the effort and hardwork!

Bravo for 5 hours of Fear Street footage! 😮🎉
Thank you!! And oooo I wonder how much of what you've read you remember, that would make a pretty fascinating discussion
The timestamps 🥰🥰
You are amazing 🤍🤍
Thought they'd come in handy
Yay more than five hours of Gavin!!!
❤❤
Incredible work! I absolutely loved this video and am totally going to add it to my go to rewatch list. I never read any of these, but I remember being super creeped out by the covers as a kid at the used bookstores we used to go to.
The covers were so great! Just like Goosebumps, I think R L Stine had some of the best book covers!
what a treat! got a cold so i'm binging this one😙
I love how we both can credit Mr. Stine as the writer who got us into becoming avid readers
@@GavinReadsItAll he brings us all together🫶🏼
Ohhh I am so excited!!! 5 hours sounds perfect to me🖤
Hope you enjoy 🥰
I’ve been waiting for this video!
Hope you love it
@@GavinReadsItAllkilled it again, of course ❤️
I have never and probably will never read a Fear Street book, but I am loving watching this video!!
Thank you, allow me to read them all for you 🙏🏼
@@GavinReadsItAll doing god's work 🫡🥺
Hi!! Gavin, loved this vlog!!! I especially liked all your different shirts/hoodies you had on!!!😊😊📚
Thank you, I tried to change it up as many times as I could haha
omg 5 hrs 🎉🎉🎉🎉 incredible 😲 honestly Ive only ever watched the movies and unless that other series turns out to be great, it will stay that way 😂 I felt so bad for you sometimes having to read such horrors but omg, glad it ended well ❤❤❤
Watching your video made me realize that I didn't read many of the original books. I read the trilogies/sagas and some of the super chillers, which leaned more into the supernatural.
Doing the Lord's work for us
Someone has to, whether anyone asked for this or not haha 🙏🏼
This is impressive! I remember reading these way too young............good times : )
I have been so excited for this video! a 5 hour beast? don't mind if I do.
Hehe hope you enjoy
While I’ve always loved the Fear Street books, the spin-offs were always my favorite! Cheerleaders, 99 Fear Street, Sagas, the origin trilogy…so freaking good!
I’m trying to collect ALL the Fear Street books. These are the books that got me into reading. I have all the original series. Working on the others. So far my favorites (that I remember) are the Cheerleader books and Switched.
I'm excited to get to the Cheerleaders books, but love that you're collecting all the books too!
I saw someone rec Christopher Pike, and fair warning, at least one book (Kill Me Softly, if memory serves) has a creepy dude mc, so it might be Fear Street levels of the kinds of boys we see 😒🙄
Regardless, I really loved this video. I like your honesty and the humor you have when you do these long videos. 🖤
I think we can all agree these books were not made for binging lol!
I forgot about so many of these!!!
In All Night Party I think Patrick planned to killer only if she refused him. Great video! ❤❤❤ 4:13:50
Oh that makes sense!
5 hours! Thank you Gavin 😁💕
Sir. Sir. The 99 fear street series is the reason I know where all local cemeteries are because to this day (I am 40) I hold my breath while passing. I am in awe. I didn't remember which of this series I've read but I was into this more than goosebumps
5 hours is WILD Gavin.
I like to live dangerously
I was sick today and this was perfect!! I'd love to see you do some Nancy Drew but there are so many haha.
Oh I hope you feel better Charlotte!
5 hours!?! GAVIN, YOU ARE UNHINGED!
Oh I know haha in the best way possible
@@GavinReadsItAll absolutely! 💜
I appreciate you reading these books so I don’t have to
I’m not done with the video yet but I laughed out loud when you brought up the crazy third sister 😂 of course there is. I’m surprised I read some of these when I was teenager. Considering all the animal deaths. I guess I was tougher back then. A lot of these covers look familiar. I read a lot of Christopher Pike too. I wonder if they had animal death? Great job with the video.
These covers are amazing
No wonder it was taking forever to upload 😂 its 5 hrs long 💙
Haha it was a nightmare
i would LOVE if you did 99 fear street!
This is amazing. I actually might be most excited about this vlog compared to the other R.L. Stine vlogs. Also, RL is American… we don’t ride trains 😅
Haha ok that's a good point
I read some of these when I was younger. I did remember parts of them but my favourites were the cheerleaders series and the fear street sega. The betrayal, the secret and the burning ❤ I also remember the tattoos that came with the book. Haha 😆
I am so excited to get to those spin-off series! Love that you read them when you were younger, also love that the books actually came with tattoos haha that's so cool
I loved these books!!!❤❤❤
I did a book report on Ski Weekend when I was a lad.
Ah no way! Bet that was a fun report to write, it was a great book
Find an RL Stein Book Without a Plothole Challenge
😂
Genuinely impossible but I will find one eventually 😂
Antonio Banderas leaning back in the chair GIF to seeing this in my feed.
😂
I'm on day three of watching this video haha loving it
I appreciate your commitment 😂
I’d leave them, too 😂 cereal and cola?🤢 somethin’ ain’t right there
I'd try anything but not THAT
This was my favorite series as a teen. I have not read all of them, but I do remember reading a good number. I think my favorite was "the surprise party."
