    Got the rear spoiler installed and fits and looks great. Install was a real pain, ended up buying longer bolts since inserting them from underneath thru the tail light holes was “challenging”. Drilled bigger holes and used larger washers underneath to make install easier/possible. Supplied hardware was not great and just six screws for eight holes. Had to apply foam stripping myself. Those plastic template tabs fall off when you turn the spoiler over to place on the car so I taped them onto spoiler lightly. Hmm, watching your video while typing this and your holes were big too to allow some movement. Your upgraded hardware is similar to what I bought so I have to say your video was spot on. I’m liking the stage 2 set up but running the stage 3 for now. Thanks for the quality video and audio and excellent editing. I recorded my install as well but it is summer, in Florida, outside, during the heat wave. It might scare people to see that much sweat!!!! Posted steering wheel update on that video.

    Finally installed mine on my 2012 GS. RPI is drop shipping during the pandemic and the hardware was undersized and not installed preshipped. Called RPI for instructions and they gave me the proper clips shown here. Once I had hardware installed, drilling required a beer and a prayer. Once that was done, I installed the new LED third brake light from Vette Lights, and gently tightened down from center outward. Fit is great and really adds pop to the rear end. Thanks for the video. Good work.

    The proper socket is a reverse torx or E-torx. A 12 point socket, just as you did will work as well. If you were working on a critical part with specific torque spec, you would want the E-torx

    I bought a used black factory ZR-1 spoiler to install on my LeMans Blue Z06, I paid $300. I used the center bolts that held the stock spoiler, but I used 3M trim adhesive tape around the right and left side of the spoiler instead of the 6 bolts (3 left side, 3 right side). Worked great, spoiler is solid in place, no issues, and NO DRILLING.

    • @InJasonsGarage
      @InJasonsGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard of people doing that, but I have also heard that the tape doesn't always hold well. How long ago did you install it?

      @@InJasonsGarage A good 3M VHB (Very High Bond) tape works great. I have used it on a spoiler a previous car. BTW great video. I also want to purchase a ZR1 spoiler but have heard many negative comments about Corvette Mods. I purchased from them once or twice but it was more accessories and nothing body, spoiler or paint related. I may try RPI designs.

  • @bic1498
    @bic1498 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I ended up getting the ZR1 spoiler from RPI but got mine painted Blade Silver (body color on my '11 GS). I am going for a slightly different look than Jason, where I will have a black wrapped halo and roof with blade silver below the body line and black again for the splitter, side skirts (if I get some) and rear valance as a below-body-line accent.
    First off, the wait is currently about 10 or 11 weeks, so disregard the 4-5 week lead posted on RPIs website. It's OK if you know about it up-front, and believe me, it is worth the wait. The spoiler isn't perfect, but it's about as close as you can get without doing some fitting to the car before paint.
    The spoiler I got is a painted ABS one from EOS, like the C-Mods one in the video, but the packaging and paint, like Jason's, is great. Almost no orange peel, no drips, dust, sag or fisheye. The silver flake is very even, which isn't easy to do on a long piece. Color-match to my 9+ year old Grand Sport paint (that spent a few years in TX) is pretty spot-on.
    Mine came with new screw-in studs for the center 4 locations instead of transferring the old ones over from the duck-butt. The nuts they supplied for the 6 outer studs are serrated flange nuts. They work, but you would be best served to put a thin, 6mm or 1/4" fender washer under them to work on a larger area of the bumper. I put mine on with the supplied hardware, but will be getting the correct nuts (GM# 25601643)to replace them.
    Overall, great product and thanks, Jason for the review. It helped me make my Vette mine!

    Nice video and good lookin' ride! Appreciate your efforts. I noticed at 12:01 the driver's side leading edge of the spoiler appears not to lie flush with / follow the contour of the vehicle body and seems like a noticeable gap. Did I see that correctly and if so, how big is it and would there be anyway to resolve this? I don't imagine there is given how stiff that corner of the spoiler would be. To your side skirt question, I think you have to go black to match your rear spoiler and front splitter. Just my two cents.

      Good question. It is very open on the bottom area as well, so any water that comes in, just drops down under the vehicle.

    Hey Jason, I followed your instructions to install my spoiler this weekend. Thanks for the video! A couple questions:
    1) what tool did you use to tighten up the retaining nuts near the tail lights? I have very little clearance to get a socket wrench in there.. also, how tight did you go? There are some tiny gaps.
    2) think there is any cause for concern about water getting under the spoiler? Did you seal your holes up with anything to keep water out?
    Thx!

    • @InJasonsGarage

      Glad the video helped. I used a ratchet wrench to tighten things up underneath. I t was not easy, had to do some maneuvering to get my arm inside the rear bumper cover but I got it done. If I had a "stubby" style of wrench it would have been easier. I think I also use a socket with short extension on it in a few spots.
      I don't have much concern about water. The car has many exposure points under the bumper cover as-is, including the little factory spoiler holes.

      @@Maximus091768 AH! Yes, you are 100% correct...I did skip mentioning that. This video is 4 years old and I think you are the first to notice that.
      I pretty much dabbed some on the bottom of the bolts in the spoiler, and dropped it into position, eyeballing it from the top as best as I could. I made the holes just a bit bigger than the bolts to give some room for adjustment. It wasn't terribly difficult. The worst part was drilling the holes...but even then...they will be hidden. Let me know if you have more questions!

      @@Maximus091768 Don't stress about it. Take your time, have a friend to help if you have one, look at the placement at all angles. Above all, remember that you have room for error because the damage will be covered by the spoiler.
