    My previous cars were Mercedes C220, Toyota Hilux, VW Passat and a Mazda 6. Now back to a small car. And yes i just bought a Seat Mii. :-)
    Reminds me back to my first car, a Lancia Y10.

    Nice review! This WV, Skoda and Seat trio is probably one of the best small cars on the market, but it would be nice to see a review of the Hyundai I10 to be able to compare it :)

    I really think that VW group has made such a huge mistake offering the UP, the citigo and Mii in electric form only while inevitably doubling the price giving the fact these cars were the absolute best city cars and have been a great success to VW in this particular category.

    I have Citigo sport tornado red. You'd be surprised how that 1.0 60bhp feel nippy.

    Best trim version in Germany at the moment is the Seat Mii Chic which is much cheaper and has most of the nice extras from the Mango but isn't as girly.
    I absolutely love getting these Mii/Citigo cars as a hire car. I've hired my next one for €27 for 4 days in February including insurance. They drive well on the motorway, country roads and in town and are so easy to parallel park.
    When I've asked the staff in the hire depot they say that they don't give trouble.
    VAG have been continuously addressing problems with production over the life of the car.
    Hyundai i10 is very slightly more practical but nowhere near as nice to drive in my experience.
    fuel consumption is very low on these cars but fuel gauge misleading. I'm always surprised how little petrol I have to put in the car before returning it to the hire depot.
    75bhp engine is not worth while as it is just a software tweak with a slightly different mechanical final drive ratio.
    Mii will often be 20mm lower on the road than the CitiGo or Up! but you need to check on a version by version basis.
    Brand new base model EU import Mii/Citigo can be found on mobile.de from 7000 euro upward, they run on a sniff of petrol and cost practically nothing to tax or insure.
    I can't recommend these cars highly enough. Love 'em!

    Very good review Thomas. For me, all three cars are the same ones, only the logo is different. Because you had the 2 doors version, the beautiful 2 doors version car in my opinion remains the legendary VW Beetle. It would be very interesting, if you could Thomas, to present the actual VW Beetle and the new VAG 1.0 TSI engine with 115 HP on a big car such as Golf or Octavia for seeing how it works.

    You're right, everyone should try to pollute as little as possible. In reality though I don't think the difference between a Golf and a Seat Mii, when it comes to pollution and using of fuel, is very big.

    In this case I actually like the colored interior part. In fact, I would like to see what the car looks like if the exterior was in that color as well. Then again, I usually like colors that few people like.. :-)
    The car seems to drive quite well, so that is a big point in it's favor. But the results of those cost cutting measures would start to bother me quickly. Especially in the interior, like the inside of the doors, that look quite cheap. Then again, in this segment it's probably hard to find a car that is more 'worthy'.
    You didn't mention the Kia Picanto as a competitor. I've seen quite a few positive reviews of that one.

    i sat in an 'up!' when i was in the process of getting a 2015 Polo - for the money, i think its really worth getting a polo or better. i understand the need for a real budget car, but for the price, just one model up makes a huge difference. the up! is cool, but very limited.

    • @kobbetop
      @kobbetop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I was thinking of swapping my '11 Polo to a new Up but I couldn't spec automatic Climatronic for the Up at all and that option is something I want in every car.

    I hate it when you can't set up the steering wheel in a car right. I drive a VW Lupo 3L - very nice car - but never could sit comfortably. When I set up the seat ergonomically I can't reach the steering wheel right. If I can reach the steering wheel comfortably I don't sit comfortably.
    It is okay when drive short distance but after around n hour it starts getting annoying. That is one of the reasons I didn't buy the new UP GTI as a successor to my Lupo but ordered the new Polo.

    Beim VW up! lässt sich bei entsprechender Fahrweise (ca. 90 km/h) Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit, also bei Landstraßentempo, ein Durchschnittsverbrauch von deutlich unter 4 Litern pro 100 km, oft sogar nur 3,5 Liter, erzielen, das ist für einen Benziner sehr wenig und ein schöner Anreiz beim Fahren. Dazu 4 Türen, Schiebedach, Ganzjahresreifen, CD-Radio und Navi - und das für nur rund 11.000,- €.

    I wish the VW up ! Would be available here in Canada it's the people's car after all . We have the Mazda 2 the KIA rio , Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, etc the smallest car we have is the VW golf witch is real nice. I like the small car road test it true that when you drive 100 000 euro a 10 000 Euro seems so good it's impossible that a 100 000 $ is 9 nine time better than a 10 000 $ I like the E up!

    For what it is, a very basic city car, I could definitely see its value. I disagree Thomas with regards to the rear seat. Thomas Jr would need more space than that second row offers; otherwise, I can assure you he will be kicking you through the seat back. I like how the gauge cluster is shared with the Beetle. Very simple. As for which of the three to purchase, I'm willing to bet it all comes down to money and national pride.

    Nice Review but ...
    "Put it in Neutral and save some Fuel" ? Not really. Stay in Gear and let it Roll. Then u save Fuel, i am sure u are aware of that.
    Im übrigen hat die 75 PS Version ihre mehrleistung erst ab 4000 U/min.
    Bis dahin sind die Kennlinien beider Motoren gleich.
    Die 75 PS Version kommt einem nur spritziger vor weil sie eine andere Endübersetzung im getriebe hat.
    Im Alltag also mehr Sprit frisst.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rolf Schröder Hey, thanks for the interesting info about the 60 vs 75 hp! About fuel economy, it is just better to stay in gear if I want to brake the car at the same time. If I want to let it roll as far as possible, it is better to go to neutral, live with the consumption if the idling cycle but dont let the engine brake the car. We have tested this on special consumption tests and it makes a difference of up to 2 litres when you are using neutral gear/rolling. That is also the reason why modern automatic gear box cars have the so called sailing function. Car is put to neutral to allow rolling/sailing. Same with electric cars, it is more efficient to let the car roll to make as many kilometers as possible than using the recuperation. Again only exception: Going downhill for a longer time where you also _want_ to slow down.

    • @SuzukiVSTROM1k
      @SuzukiVSTROM1k 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank u for the detailed answer.
      I am very interested in the fuel economy test u mentioned.
      Our daily driving is 90 % in the city (45138 Essen).
      In normal traffic u got a phase of acceleration, holding speed and rolling (no gas, no fuel consumption) to the next traffic light in 3 or 2 gear, trying to stay in gear, hoping that the traffic light will jump to green while u are approaching with zero consumption.
      In my eyes this is the most efficient way of driving in city.
      And this is a city car :)

      +ast5515 It is an air intake which routes to the coldest part of the engine bay. If you put a K&N air filter on this car it would actually disimprove engine performance.

    Would rather buy a second hand Golf for that money.

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kimmern999 The problem is that with a Golf, you can drive it on the motorway AND in a city. Sure a smaller car is easier to live with in a city, but it's not really an option for an ONLY car.
      And there are countries, where people only have the money to buy 1 car, and these things just don't make sense there.

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      kimmern999 I kinda agree.
      I like these small cars, but there is a problem. I earn the german minimal wage. And I earn more than 85% of my country. So... People here generally can't buy more than 1 car. Hell, buying a Suzuki Swift is prestigious, because you have the money to buy a new car. It's that bad over here.
      So in THIS country, this car is literally pointless, because the way people think here, is that buying a bigger car used is still a bigger car, so it's more usable for the family.
      But in countries where people have the money to own more than 1 car, I think these things are amazing. You can park it anywhere, you can turn around anywhere, you have great visibility.

    • @ParFektion
      @ParFektion 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that most people buy these "mini cars" because they are cheap. If money is the reason for buying one I think you're better off with buying a second hand Golf, that's my point.
