While I was working on my certification at NRVTA in Athens, TX, Tod Henson, shared an idea that a former student came up with. It is very effective and inexpensive. Purchase a 5 ft. piece of 1/2" pex, barbed fitting, brass ball valve and adapter to a female garden hose connector. With the water off to the RV, place a Johnny Chock to hold the toilet valve open and push the PEX tube down into the take. It is flexible enough to bend without kinking. Make sure the black tank dump valve is open. Once the PEX tube is down into the tank, turn the ball valve open. The water pressure, combined with the up and down movement of the PEX tube will usually break up the pyramid.

Can you break up the pyramid through the toilet itself?
You can reach it with a stick in a travel trailer, but not a fifth wheel if the toilette is upstairs. I have videos on both methods.

Subscribed, bought the t-shirt and everything. Pyramid of poo happens.....wrong toilet paper whatever. Got a handy stick to reach down and break it up. Flush the tank out regularly now...actually on every trip on last day...

I lost my home to Hurricane Ida. So im a camper for now. Whats the problem if the water in not going down when you flush to toilet.
Maybe the tank is full (is valve working correctly?) or you might have a poop pyramid?
I used to use a piece of 1/2" pex pipe down thru the toilet to clear our stoppage in a montana 5th wheel it stopped up constantly for some reason.

Like the reality of the video shows the problems you can run into .not the 123 videos that talks about the problem and then shows the end result. Things never goes as well as some videos show.
I really try to keep it real here. A repair almost never goes perfectly.
You seem to have no problem with the smell however I’d be gagging. I keep a jar of Vick’s rub for such a occasion.

Thanks for the video. I have a question please... My tanks read empty but when I flush the toilet I see poop right there and a bad smell when the flange is open from toilet. Suggestions please how to get that poop down the pipe into the tank?

How do you recommend using the toilet in a motor home... for the winter... with temps, normally above 20deg f? I've been flushing the toilet with, ONLY -50 Deg RV ANTIFREEZE. Thanks

Son forgot to close black tank lever and all liquids drained for ???? Long. Closed lever. Added water and chemicals. Waiting to see if solids reliquified. Will let you know
Ok. They do make better chemicals for RV tanks to help get rid of solids.
@@hillbillyrv I have heard good things about Happy Camper. Will lots of water, chemical and a few hundred miles re-liquify the solids?
@@outlawten5750 I believe the right chemicals and really managing the tanks properly will get rid of the solids, but most people won't put the effort into it, because they are the ones that neglected the tanks in the first place.
I didn't hear what chemicals you use to unclog the Poo Pyramid. I had people over & the toilet was filled to the trap!!
I can't see myself cutting my pipe out, esp when the liquid is above the floor line!
No chemicals. The only way I know of is just go at it with a small sewer snake. It isn't easy or fast. FYI, there is no trap on an RV toilette. Typically, on a travel trailer, the pipe goes straight down and 5th wheel there will be 2 slight bends in the pipe between the commode and the tank. Good luck. Be sure to watch my video on managing your tanks. You might be able to avoid this in the future.
@@hillbillyrv oh... Well maybe not TRAP... But the slider that opens at the VERY top of the toilet. ..where you flush it. They left it full up to there! I've tried sticking a PEX pipe down it.. I swear I was tapping the bottom of the tank with it but it still wouldn't go down..& it shouldn't be FULL.

I've pushed the end of an old hose up the drain... It stopped at about 4' where the 2nd 45° bend was. Water was coming out as clear as it was going in! & My other comment.
I filled my fresh tank, pulled both together. Nothing.

@@adibarr8996 You have the classic pyramid of poo. You can't put anything rigid down the commode because there are a couple of angle fittings in the pipe. Get a plumbers snake. Good luck

So we are full time rv livers lol. We are faithful about draining the black tank as well as flushing it. But for some reason the tank doesn't want to drain any solids. We have tried so many things and nothing seems to be working. Like I said we are full time so its really not possible to take the rig in. Besides taking the route you took in this video is there any other way to break loose what ever it may be, paper or poo?
