So wonderful to discover this podcast! Your father was at the Alpha Leadership Conference this year, but I couldn't get into his seminar. So many of us couldn't. That's how popular he was! Lovely to be able to hear more of his wisdom here.

Good Evening DSIdris & Leon...such a wonderful knowledge sharing EP29. Kaizen Steps so succintly explained as to how to successfully navigate any pitfalls or shortcomings for successful operations of any Business Model.
It reminds me of DSIdris Talent in restructuring & as A Turn Around Specialist [ MAS, PEMANDU etc]. It truly resonates well with the Strategies of Business Success Model in the Book " The Mind of the Strategist" by Kenichi 0hmae.
I am also amazed by Leon's talent & interpersonal skills/ soft skills in handling this Episode with utmost care & intelligence the approach in asking the right questions & getting the maximum answers frm his Dad.
A very insightful thought sharing session. Keep it up. Thks for sharing. Hv a pleasant week.

Rm750mil for 16% stake in the healthcare group, grossing this up is equivalent to Rm4.7bil, which isn’t similar to the Rm8bil market cap of Sunway group. Just curious how do you bridge this gap ?

It’s valued for their healthcare unit. Grossing up for their conglomerate asset shows they are vastly undervalued

It is his biggest regret in which he repeated it few times. Too bad it happened. It is a lost to Malaysia actually. And unfortunately it is still happening right now.

I think MAS was very wrong to consider AA their rival… they should go against SAS.. AA is low cost airline, MAS is a premium airlines.. so sure it caused NAS status go down as well as its share and value…

MAS, mana ada system, we need a man to create a system, sadly this political optic has been a barrier at the expense of the nation.

Obviously there is a great synergy to merge Qantas and MAS but the key stumbling block is the optics of losing majority shares in our national airline. In order to overcome this optics, why can’t you broker the deal to allow Qantas to own maybe 49.9% shares of MAS and MAS owns maybe 20% shares of Qantas? Just like the deal done between Proton and Geely?

Politics killed the deal, same thing was and is still hindering MAS till today. For that matter it's the same problem in every GLC in Malaysia.

I worked closely on this proposed transaction. Actually, the proposed structure with Qantas was for Malaysia to own a majority of the joint airline in Malaysia and Australia to own a majority in of the joint airline in Australia. The collective profitability however will be split differently between the Australian and Malaysian entity. This is also so that the traffic rights (which is a G-to-G matter) with is associated to the airline AOC can be maintained. So in Malaysia, MAS will still be owned by Malaysia.

@@eujinsong8286 All this is just speculation, and on paper, it looks good. In reality, no one knows. It was NOT to be, because too much UMNO political self-interest was involved. no?

    • @eujinsong8286
      @eujinsong8286 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@alexlong3714Not sure which part you're referring to as speculation and on paper. The assessed benefits of a potential merger is clear and, as Idris mention, done to a very detailed/granular level based on actual data at that time.
It is too broad and unfair to say it was down to just UMNO, as an organisation, for the transaction not happening. Other external non-airline business related factors including timing may be potential contributing factors.
But safe to say, in my opinion, Malaysia Airlines and Qantas would be different today and highly likely to be better off had it happen then.

Dont think MAS can rise fr its ashes unless magic happens. With a big domestic market, yet it fails to perform anyway compare to SQ in tiny dot Sg wt no domestic mkt. 😢

Sunway reap the benefit of the sale to GIC.
But sadly the same didn't happen to Axiata despite many strategic deals to divest strategic stakes in edotco and Axiata digital
