Lot's more to come hopefully for Strategos & I'll definitely be making more videos about it here! If you like what you see and you want to support the game & follow it's progress, best thing you can do is wishlist the game on Steam & join their Discord linked on the Steam page as well - store.steampowered.com/app/3064810/Strategos/
Thank you for the your coverage of innovative stuff Terminator. Been following Strategos for months now - the dev is a gentleman and his ideas are neat. He knows what he is going for, and he's well on his way IMHO! Great to see his creativity rewarded with some coverage.👍
@@TheTerminatorGaming I wasnt saying that as a negative, I think it's a beatiful style and sometimes feels more engaging than more "realistic" looking games so I wish them luck for their effort and journey
Eh I don't see it. It's far more stylized and simplified with a more cartoony look to the point even Rome 1 was not. Rome Remaster updated the graphics to look more realistic but still keep the stylized look with the vibrant colors and a more subdued realistic color scheme as options. Do agree with you however it's not a bad style and can look pretty good on its own. I would say it is more for different tastes for people who are fine with graphics focused more on style or simple rather than on making everything as realistic as possible which has gotten overused in video games nowdays.
The courier concept is awesome. The delay, baked into the order phases, will really highlight whether you can see opportunities and disaster in enough time to make use of it. Like all the amazing Generals could. I love that all the "visual noise", that CA seems to be obsessed with, is absent as well. This will definitely be at the top of my list. Thanks one again, Termi.
its not a campaign map like total war?so its not total war, there is already a bunch of games where you play battle to battle including ultimate general civil war for instance so no this isnt a total war competitor.total war should be BOTH about campaign map and battles and it should be simple and intuitive and not overcomplicated and dragged out, until there comes a game that manages to capture the essence of total war then there is no competitor.
Hopefully they add a grand campaign map later. It seems much closer in feel to total war then, say, ultimate general, so hopefully the developers have plans to expand it to a total war style map with multiple factions such as Macedonians, Greeks, Persians and so on. Its a smaller developer so focusing on developing the battle engine and balancing a limited amount of factions in an Alexander scenario makes sense. Im hopeful, the developers seem to be focusing on perfecting the hardest part first, the battle mechanics and ai. It would be nice to have a solid strategy game in this time period.
This footage shows some promise, especially regarding the delayed orders mechanic such as in Grand tactician and fire and maneuver. It reminds me of field of glory, except with real time battles. I have high hopes that the tactical gameplay is smooth and reasonably manageable. I do not need the spectacle of total war to enjoy a good war game. Thanks for the informative video.
"StrateJOS" hehehehehehe But I wouldn't say it's a Total War competitor, there is no empire management whatsoever. If I were to seek a game similar to the Total War series, I wouldn't pick a game which only features the "battle" aspect of a campaign. I would compare this game to something much older, like the game "Legion Arena" where the campaign is just a series of field battles with a description and briefing.
I enjoyed ultimate general civil war a lot and I will love this game with veterans from battles getting stronger and a challenging sequence of battles that can be considered a campaign all together
Main issue in strategy games, especially online but singleplayer also, is players cheesing with camping generals or using lone general units to divert their opponents. What happens if you intercept riders between enemy generals and their troops though? Is that even in this game? Because that would force generals to be close to their armies and actually fight alongside their troops like they would and indeed were doing IRL (even Caesar wasn't hanging back leisurely like all the movies portray him to have done) and those who don't will suffer from order delays. Even if they hide their generals you'd still be able to spot their messengers, dead giveaway.
A lot of the terminology and even numbers shown seem to be inspired from tabletop games. There is a series of games which have done an excellent job of transferring the tabletop rules to the PC, namely: Field of Glory (ancient world era), Field of Glory: Medieval and Pike and Shot. They are however turn-based and do not have any sort of order system, delayed or otherwise. And the graphics, or more accurately the representation of units as a bulk of soldiers in squares, much like chess, mildly detracts from the immersion. In fact I would sum up these games as realistic chess. As for Strategos I am of the opinion that it is both similar enough to existing games (TW and the aforementioned ones) as not to risk being perceived as niche while also innovative enough in a limited but key junction of what makes RTS battles fun.
Funny point about the visual side of things - my favourite game is still Rome Total War. I never even thought about all of the guys looking identical until about a decade later when RTW 2 came out and this was made part of the marketing. Then again, the guys in Strategos do look a liiiiiil bit dwarfy and goofy judging by this video haha
Klaxons go off: A new challenger appears. I like it. May the game go forward bravely like Alexander the Great and be victorious. (Do i even need to remind how much we need this? even if it's just a good try? )
Looks okay. The delayed mechanic is the one high point and I can appreciate the dev’s efforts here but theres nothing especially interesting going for it from a gameplay or graphics perspective outside of that. Most of this we have already seen but done better with Total War. Very far from being a true competitor imo.
Oh for the love of... Does this have a 4x lite campaign? No? Then it's not a competitor. In fact, this is more like FIelds of Glory but the battles are in real time.
Its about the gameplay dude. Forget about visuals of an indie pre alpha game competing with AAA Total War, you shouldn’t expect that anyway. But the gameplay is miles ahead and you’d see that if you gave it a try
Come on dude, its pre-alpha, its indie and I said put the graphics aside as that can be improved on. The gameplay is what matters here and its simply better. Try it out for yourself.

Feels and looks like Rome Remaster
Visuals can always improve. Main focus is how it plays right now which is quite good. I'd suggest you give it a chance
For me such a game needs a proper campaign

Stratejoss lol. That made me chuckle.
This could be the Rome Total War killer of 2004 we’ve all been waiting.

Strategos. The Wish version of King Arthur.
King Arthur. The Wish version of Total War
Wow, sounds interesting, actually amazing! That realistic way of being in charge of the battle, is superb! Looking forward to this game!
Would be cool if they add a campaign map too. In fact, a pixelart style total war game could be very cool.
Would be nice if they add a campaign with diplomacy and sanbox elements
i hope the game have a campaign with a officer mechanic and you could raise ranks like in Grand Tactician The Civil War
I hope it will be possible for historical army sizes. 40k vs 40 or 200k vs 200k during napoleon wars etc. I rather have that than amazing graphics.

Yes ahaha yes!
I am one of the sickos who has been desperate for more indie games to start competing with Total War!

Cool game it seems. Still ages away from Total War but it looks like a strong basis for an indie dev.
It is just tactical battles. No strategic or operational element. It's apples and oranges comparing it to Total War.
Anyways i've beaten Rise of Nations Extended Edition America campaign with the US.
In Addition
Beaten the 1st mission in German campaign in MoWAS OG.
wow wow wow!

Wery hard that some game can stand with total war
I like the game logo at least
It's like the system of MiusFront
It is and that's great
I really hope they differentiate themselves from Total War, well.
The "g" should be HARD ! Sorry for my pedantry.....
Haha my bad :)
Apollo is based AF
Wow that was fast 😄
It look like total war rome remastered with a bit of tabletop game.

strange dev could take texture and models from existing total war game to make unit not look so much toyish
There are no total war competitors
It's Strate GOS, not JOS, mate.
Thanks buddy yeah I do mispronounce a few things here and there
Yea ts is buns 💔
Looks like a game from 2001...
Obviously,nope
What gives you this opinion?
Sad what has happened to this channel
What happened mate? I’m always open to feedback!
I cringe a little bit every time he pronounces STRAT-e-jos
You should try Warno, you will have a blast
Is the "Competitor" to Total War game is a game that looks worse than Rome Total War, then I don't think they've got much to sweat.
Its about the gameplay dude. Forget about visuals of an indie pre alpha game competing with AAA Total War, you shouldn’t expect that anyway. But the gameplay is miles ahead and you’d see that if you gave it a try
@@TheTerminatorGaming I am talking about the gameplay
Id be wary of this type of stuff, think of battlebit.
Looks visually awful both in design and animations
Awful
Looks awful
I cant see how this is any different to rome 1? Haha 😂
Mate, Im a big supporter of your channel but come on.... 2005 graphics and a poor mans rome 1. Did they pay you for this rubbish?
Come on dude, its pre-alpha, its indie and I said put the graphics aside as that can be improved on. The gameplay is what matters here and its simply better. Try it out for yourself.
