Hey there! So glad I found you! I have a dracula snow globe from Department 56 that I need to fix, any suggestions for getting the globe off as it has a big outside base with the globe closely surrounded and no opening from the bottom
If it has no opening on the bottom it sounds like a solid base snow globe. The best way to open those up is to place the globe in a waterproof plastic bag, put it in a bowl and pour boiling water up to the top of the base, don't get the globe in the boiling water. If the globe was assembled using hot glue as most are then the boiling water will soften the glue enough for you to remove the globe. You can check out episode 201 to see an example. That particular globe took 30 minutes and 3 kettles of boiling water to open but most usually only take one and are loose in around 10 minutes but some require heat for a longer period of time depending on the material of the base and how much glue was used. Good luck.
I see there is a circuitboard in that one. What you do when the globe doesn´t work at all? Are you checking the curciutboard too and try to fix that or are you looking for spare parts on the internet?
Yes, this one has a circuit board. So far we have been very lucky that all of the globes with circuit boards worked correctly. I'm not sure what we could do if we came across one that did not work. Finding replacement circuit boards would be very difficult if not impossible at this point.
