So the T-47 Airspeeder's modifications for anyone who is interested, actually have Y-Wing Cockpits, as they were a bit more "armored" as well as enhanced repulsorlift engines to allow it to move a lot smoother across random terrain when flying lower. The T-47 speeder also was originally just a cargo puller, so imagine it as large tow truck or a 18 Wheeler Truck Cab.
I still remember the V-wing from Rogue Squadron, played it for years until it wasn't compatible with my newer Windows OS. I had all the medals and everything, and it's right now with this video, that I know it had a rapid fire option for the blasters...
I like how you focus on the small T-16 model Luke's playing with whilst ignoring the full sized ship in the background, just visible through the door. That PTB-625 looks a HELL of a lot like the ARC-170

The best way to think of why combat air speeders exist is to think of it this way. Many planets do not have massive budgets. During the different wars most of their budget might have been tithed away to one faction or another, by choice or otherwise. As well, a planet under Imperial protection might not "need" a Space arm. The imperials would provide garrisons for key locations, but the planet itself would have its own standing army/militia. And this is where speeders come in. Any persons being contributed to an Imperial campaign would be equipped by the empire, but for home/local defense, they would be equipped by the planet who, due to budget restrictions, production limitations, and such wouldn't be designing their own star fighters but instead simply design air speeders. This would also explain the many variants of some air speeders as each planet would customize them for their own use. The problem is, for a small mobile group like the rebels, Air speeders actually don't make a lot of sense in that they can't escape on their own. They need a freighter or a carrier, and since they are almost as large if not larger then some star fighters, then building/using pure star fighters WOULD make more sense. Except for the fact that again, the rebels were desperate for equipment, and some planets might... misplace some of their speeders at times. As well IF a speeders energy output was low enough, it might escape imperial sensors (again, IF we follow the detection ranges we see and are given of a few miles only) small speeders COULD get lost in ground clutter and be an effective hit and run weapon on occupied planets. A tactic that would work and has been employed during WW1 and 2 would be... hitting a target and running away, if/when fighters try and intercept, lead the fighters to preset AA locations, in star wars, this would be man portable, launched missiles. A single one would likely take out a tie fighter... so you could see a speeder whipping over a few hidden ground troops who fire at the perusing ties. one done they then disappear into the ground cover... and the air speeder flys back to some barn, and parks for rearming.

the PTB-625 has a role that fit best in the Clone Wars: it’s a clear war weapon, used in invasions to first secure the landing zone then provide support. once that’s finished they’re moving on to the next invasion

a couple of points on this video, 1.) I would take a Talon I over a skyhopper any day. It had 2 blaster cannons, Immense speed (1500kph) and a very high operational ceiling (100km). Granted the skyhopper was faster, but the talon was more maneuverable, and had slightly better weaponry. 2.) the PTB-625 is by far the best speeder mentioned here imo. While I cant fins stats on speed (it has the same 100km ceiling) I cant believe it would be a slow moving craft (with "large engines"). with that in mind it has roughly 30% more fire power than the V wing plus the bombing capability.

I’d say the biggest military boon for speeders is that they are significantly cheaper that a full fledged aerospace fighter. Easier to produce, and could be kitted out with respectable weapons. It’s more bang for your buck, and every penny counts in warfare
You should do one on ground speeders: fast repulsorlift vehicles that can only fly a few feet above the ground, and piloted by a single or two people, like what we see on Endor or Tatooine.
I think it would be really cool if they would make a Starfighter based on the design aspect of the B wing airspeeder. It just looks so cool and it's highly maneuverable. With an upgrade and size some better weapons and some shielding it would make a pretty effective Starfighter.

What is the TIE Striker classified as? Personally, even if some craft are designed to be more effective in Atmospheric Combat rather than Space Combat, I personally believe that both that Republic Bomber & the TIE Striker are what I'd refer to as Planetary Entry Airspeeders. The strategy focus is that shortly before the carrier craft enters the atmosphere, its craft launches to attack ANYTHING that has its sights on the carrier, a sort of duel defense where the Heavier Bombers (i.e. the Carrier) are attacking the Light Anti-Air Positions while the GAPs (i.e. the TIE Stiker) are attacking the Heavy Anti-Air Positions.

I always thought the pod racing should have been airspeeder racing. Obi-Wan said Anakin was a great pilot when they 1st met. However, pod racing is more like driving than flying. Anakin didn't fly until after he'd met Obi-Wan.

What is the TIE Striker classified as? Personally, even if some craft are designed to be more effective in Atmospheric Combat rather than Space Combat, I personally believe that both that Republic Bomber & the TIE Striker are what I'd refer to as Planetary Entry Airspeeders. The strategy focus is that shortly before the carrier craft enters the atmosphere, its craft launches to attack ANYTHING that has its sights on the carrier, a sort of duel defense where the Heavier Bombers (i.e. the Carrier) are attacking the Light Anti-Air Positions while the GAPs (i.e. the TIE Stiker) are attacking the Heavy Anti-Air Positions.
