He testified to Congress so the apology could not admit any admissions of guilt that would open Him up to some politician wanting to hang a famous scalp on The wall. The claim no laws were broken was to protect Him and 100% put in there by His Lawyer
Walking out on his team during a game. Pretending he didn't understand English when testifying in front of Congress while making McDonald's commercials with McGuire. Knowingly playing with a corked bat. Basically, he burned bridges with fans, players and ownership. Yes. He made the Cubs untold amounts of money but he also made a shit ton of money. The guy's a clown, his entire career and life was a lie, even now when he claimed "I never did anything illegal" ... guy can't take ownership for his problems.
@@TS1964 In an official statement under oath he let his english speaking lawyer talk instead of speaking in his second language and risking saying something wrong... I dont get how people still get hung up on that. Its the smart move, why risk anything when they were coming after them trying to get perjury charges. And imost likely he didnt knowingly play with a corked bat, It seems the far more likely scenario that it was an accident. They looked at all his other bats and not a single one was corked. Plus its been proven since then corked bats dont help anyways
After all these years we forget how Sosa and Big Mac brought baseball back after a lockout and a sour fan base. Good for him for giving some kinda apology.
Had to bust out laughing on ALL your comments about Slammin Sammy Sosa. I guess you guys absolutely don’t remember him leaving the last day of the regular season early, he said Dusty Baker said OK, the owners of the Cubs absolutely hated that with a passion, Baker when asked over a dozen times said he never gave Sammy permission, that was definitely passed on to Tom Ricketts
And again... what's he apologizing for? There's never been anything connecting him to anything. Why wasn't Jim Thome, Jeff Bagwell & Mike Piazza made to do this? Same with Papi. They all looked just as guilty and the rest of them are in the Hall!
Read Cubs Nation. It was more for the way he left the team at the end of 2004. The other stuff it was to face saving for the congress statement that most of them other players provided half a$$ "statements" (they lied, through their teeth) Other commenters here already pointed those out.
No he didn't. He was given the final day of the 2004 season off, and decided to pack up and leave 2 hours early. Dusty Baker, the Cubs then-manager, said Sosa no-showed the final day of the season. Sosa said Baker wasn't going to play him the last day, so Sosa asked for the day off entirely, and was granted permission by Baker. Baker said this didn't happen. Who knows... it's been a war of words for literally 20 years now.

Damn that makes sense. I didn't think it was a big deal personally. I don't think everything was "illegal".
The Cubs should have treated Sammy Sosa better. Sosa is a huge part of baseball and Cubs history.
The Legend Is Back
Apologies for what? Making the Cubs a billion dollars and saving baseball.

Lol. Right
A corked bat maybe.
@TS1964 buddy, you're thinking of Rickey Henderson and Bobby Bonilla walking out on the Mets to play cards in the club house.
It was never about PEDs, it was about how he left the organization.
Agree completely
Right absolutely
Exactly!!!

Sammy is the reason I fell in love with baseball. LOVE THIS
I guess it's a legal thing but saying hey I didn't break the law is...questionable

that's exactly why I said there was shit going on and they hated each other. apology wasn't about the roids
I don’t think it was the steroids, it was the way he left the team.
He lied under oath in front of congress, hence the weird statement. I’m guessing…

I think he meant like an actual law not in baseball term. But he still admitting regardless he messed up
He walked out on the cubs like a few games before the season ended on his last season with the cubs . Steroids were actually great for MLB views
