My Grandfather had this record , and loved to play it on Saturday evening . Sitting in his chair smoking his pipe and sipping whiskey , and I'd be rt at his feet . Laying on my back , hands folded behind my head . Trying to hear what he heard , Grandpa I hear it now !
Bridges of Madison. County sealed Clint as being a great director and actor who selected projects that were age appropriate and stage appropriate for his life
This is one of my many favorite songs. Clint Eastwood (a musician in his own right) made a perfect pick in having Johnny sing this in the "Bridges of Madison County" -- what a movie! Superb sound here!
@Sterling Pound Of course he is. He is but one of 6 voices in this piece. Look at the range of playing in sax players! Same with vocalists. From Big Maybelle to Julie London. Hartman had a gift for his timbre and tone and I always thought he phrased elegantly.
This is an old favorite song of mine, and I love Johnny Hartman's low, slow baritone voice singing it, just beautiful! Great instrumental interlude also. "...We come and we go like the ripples on a stream, so love me tonight, for tomorrow may never come, for all we know." How poignant those words are; give love and take it while you can, there may not be a tomorrow!
Thanks to Clint he’s remembered in a truly lovely film that people will carry on watching! It’s sad though that so many talented African Americans were obliged to leave the states. Credit to Europe for treating them like normal, talented human beings
When my Girl and I first "moved in" together, we lay in the beautiful Sydney starry night and listened to a great radio programme..."This is Johnny Hartman" Together over the past 43 years, the memory of his magnicient voice is so much of our lives together. Billy Eckstien, Billy Daniells are also with us. Just such great voices. Non parielle
WE MUST BRING JOHNNY BACK!!! How on earth can we do it? The World needs Johnny Hartman today more than ever!!! Thank you...thank you very much!!! LOL!!!
This music is magnificent. I love his voice. The trumpet has always been one of my favorite instruments. This song makes me feel like I am in another era.
Xmas morning 20014 here down under in Oz. I can not think of a better way to start our festive day than to listen to some great jazz and in particular to Mr Lush life Johnny Hartman. 20014 has been a shitty year all over, to my jazz friends who may listen to Mr Hartman today I wish you well, hell I wish you all well even those with cloth ears who may have just stumbled over this site.
Supawadee Nemeth I agree. My then wife and we're visiting Iowa and went to see the house used in the film. It had a visitor centre was exactly like in the movie. We also visited all the sites where it was filmed including Winterset the town they used and, of course, all the bridges.
Me too! many people don't really know that besides being an actor, director and movie maker, Clint Eastwood is a talented musician who intended to make music a career and got rather sidetracked, all in our favor! Picking Johnny Hartman to sing the old standard "For All We Know" was so apropos for this movie, the whole thing fell together into perfection! This is a favorite of mine for everything about it, the music, the acting, the emotion, all done so very well, making this a winner! Thank you, Clint, Meryl, et al.!
Wow!! Sadly this brother was never truly given the recognition he deserved. Have not heard a voice to compare with his for some time now. He was loved in Europe where he sang mostly but not in his own country where he struggled to get make a living. A handsome, dapper Gentleman. Was that not the lot of most African/American men and women of his time? Man's inhumanity to man!!
Hari Madray, you're describing most if not all Jazz musicians both vocalists and instrumentalists. Sadly, most of the Jazz greats have passed and very few are carrying the mantel for this great genre.
Every song sung by Johnny was & is heavenly. Our brother in law, Ronnie Zito, the great drummer suggested Clint Eastwood's movie (bridges of Madison County). we were floored !!! Music amazing. Thank you Ronnie💘
In my opinion, artists communicate thoughts and feelings through their work. Sometimes it gets you to think or feel, sometimes you can get kind of lost with where they “take you”, and then there’s Johnny Hartman…who, through his performance brings you so completely into a bygone time, into a beautiful and comfortable jazz-club-evening, complete with small cloth-draped tables, with small dimmed lights, and a beverage of your choosing. His voice makes you feel like you’re right there…dressed-up like folks used to. And with closed eyes you can feel, through Johnnys’ voice, completely immersed in a jazz-happiness. Thank you always Johnny. 🌴Jeff 🌴
Billy Extine, Johnny Hartman, SOME of the greatest talents of MY GENERATION, HAD the privilege of seeing Billy,in Montreal, Quebec WITH Sammy Davis Jr, SAW Johnny Hartman, AT the Apollo theatre, IN HARLEM....both GREAT PERFORMANCES.....5,*****
Your ears don't lie,His voice paralleled with the best hands down. Radio stations have done a great disservice by not playing His songs so audiences could hear this Great Voice.
He was truly a class singer that is missed from music world there was only 3 of them but he ranked on top of this list of greatness. It was him and Arthur Prysock as baritone singers that made real music sound outstanding at super high levels. Dunmore Music of Monee IL.
I recently discovered this talented balladeer. I'm surprised I didn't find him among my dad's collection of LP's. His tone, pitch and timing are like sitting in a soft chair, stroking your longtime pet house cat and watching it's long, furry tail lazily undulate with sensuous satisfaction. Prrrfect!
Johnny Hartman is a hell of a singer who makes your heart to loose a beat.Once you heard his voice you will lay awake all night thinking about the impossible. Together with Earl Coleman, Billy Ekstine and Arthur Pryslock constitute a class is smooth; beautiful and sensitive singers whose contribution in the American artform can't be easily dismissed .
One of my favorite movies , it shows how much we lack in love and be in a relationship for years, someone comes along and shows us who we are in Love!!!!! 🌹🌹🌹
Johnny Hartman is one of my favorite singers. Nicely done of course. The lyrics of this song written by Sam Lewis in 1934 (now forgotten) are so very poignant. Particularly for those who lived through those times and considering how much the world and our culture changed after the 2nd world war.
This movie open my eyes to see something that will never be. My biggest regret hurting, some I loved with the passion he loved her. Then hurting myself as well. Do what you have to do to, be happy. There is so much beauty in this life.
Vc escuta esta voz...fecha os olhos e deixa o corpo balançar ao ritmo da melodia. Ao lado de alguém especial é melhor ainda. Na vdd é um momento mágico 💞💕❤️
My Grandfather had this record , and loved to play it on Saturday evening . Sitting in his chair smoking his pipe and sipping whiskey , and I'd be rt at his feet . Laying on my back , hands folded behind my head . Trying to hear what he heard , Grandpa I hear it now !
great comment..........
Such a sweet comment and song
I feel it. Thank you.
Beautiful memory thank you for sharing ❤😊
This is my grandfather. I miss him so much. It means a lot to me when I hear stories like this. I really appreciate you sharing!
Real music!!! Thank you, Johnny Hartman, for humming for dynamic Baby Boomers!
Thank you Clint Eastwood, for introducing me to this magnificent singer.
I just Watch the movie and I fall in love
"Sur la Route de Madisson".. j'❤ beaucoup ces Chansons., Cette voix 🎶
A very underrated vocalist who should have been given more recognition in his lifetime.
Thanks to Clint for reminding jazz fans of his subtle talents.
Never considered Johnny Hartman underrated.
Saw him often at The Baby Grand in Harlem .Always a Master performer. Johnny Hartman was never underestimated. RIP JH .
Bridges of Madison. County sealed Clint as being a great director and actor who selected projects that were age appropriate and stage appropriate for his life
i'm surprised, he doesn't even like Black people. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, most like Black culture.. just not Black people.
Gone 37 years but never never forgotten! And you never will be Johnny Hartman! Thank you for all the music you left behind.
This is one of my many favorite songs. Clint Eastwood (a musician in his own right) made a perfect pick in having Johnny sing this in the "Bridges of Madison County" -- what a movie! Superb sound here!
my favorite male jazz singer bar none. and that's a long list. His voice, tone and storytelling are unparalleled
@Sterling Pound Of course he is. He is but one of 6 voices in this piece. Look at the range of playing in sax players! Same with vocalists. From Big Maybelle to Julie London. Hartman had a gift for his timbre and tone and I always thought he phrased elegantly.
@@anotherbahamianguitarplayer Dig into Joe Williams as well! He's on the top of my list ;)
Thank you it takes me back as a child when my parents did house parties. in the 50's and 60's what great times
This is an old favorite song of mine, and I love Johnny Hartman's low, slow baritone voice singing it, just beautiful! Great instrumental interlude also. Hey, the singer is trying to get him some before he shipped out to fight and possibly die in Europe or the Pacific.
Thanks to Clint he’s remembered in a truly lovely film that people will carry on watching! It’s sad though that so many talented African Americans were obliged to leave the states. Credit to Europe for treating them like normal, talented human beings
I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with your all too TRUE statement my friend!! Thank you 🙏🏽
Not all of Europe, it was just better than here.. so I've read.
And John Coltrane. Genius. I love this song. So very beautiful. They don't make music like this now. You just melt into a lovely place
In this track Frank Wess sax.
The albu Hartan & Cotrane is really one of the very best.
The most beautiful mature male voice in history bar none! Thank you Johnny Hartman for allowing us the privilege to hear you.
When my Girl and I first "moved in" together, we lay in the beautiful Sydney starry night and listened to a great radio programme..."This is Johnny Hartman" Together over the past 43 years, the memory of his magnicient voice is so much of our lives together. One of pop/jazz greatest balladeers, if not the greatest! He knew what to do with a song! He not only sung it, but he brought them to life!
Oh my! This for real! This man could sing. Really sing. I've never heard of him before and I'm definitely a fan. Incredible.
Me too. New fan, thanks to Clint.
Make sure you listen to any recordings he’s done with John Coltrane.
Fantastic voice. It sounds like a baritone sax.
It sounds like what it is. A tenor sax
A beautiful bass-baritone voice.
I loved listening to Johnny when I was a teenager back in the 1980s. I still love him now.
I sure miss REAL music and voices like this!
me to
Never gets dull or boring. ...love him..
He blows me away with his voice
......and his handsome face.
All I can say is that it is truly beautiful.
WE MUST BRING JOHNNY BACK!!! How on earth can we do it? The World needs Johnny Hartman today more than ever!!! Thank you...thank you very much!!! LOL!!!
I'm doing a Johnny Hartman tribute show. working on it now. Lots of shedding
Did you end up doing it? I think it's a great idea. :)
Love this song! His voice was incredible and the lyrics are unforgettable!! First class! Jazz at it's best!!
Sophisticated, musical as hell, pretty to look at, flawless artist.
infrantasi Flawless
Flawless. Both Johnnies. True Blue music. Heart and soul breaking. The sweet utter sadness if it all. ..
This music is magnificent. I love his voice. The trumpet has always been one of my favorite instruments. This song makes me feel like I am in another era.

For sure - great film.
I know right, I thought Billy Eckstine was singing until I viewed the credits. He clearly didn’t get his due!! What a powerful voice💕

So true. He was an absolute vocal master.
Mostly Black male singers have the hardest time. Look at the male jazz vocalist landscape now.
I'm not sure they wern't all famous, most American musicians aren't, but they generally had fine careers,
the talented ones like Johnny Hartman
Hari Madray, you're describing most if not all Jazz musicians both vocalists and instrumentalists. Sadly, most of the Jazz greats have passed and very few are carrying the mantel for this great genre.
I love his music and his voice is so sweet and sexy.
Every song sung by Johnny was & is heavenly. Our brother in law, Ronnie Zito, the great drummer suggested Clint Eastwood's movie (bridges of Madison County). we were floored !!! Music amazing. Thank you Ronnie💘
for all my fellow lovers of great music. it is so nice to be in your company ❤😄❤.
❤❤❤
I have requested this to be played before I journey into
the long dark night of eternity.
May God bless you all and keep you safe.
God bless and keep you❤

Everytime I here that song all I can say is DAMN
My, my, MY!! So BEAUTIFUL!!
Ashamed to say I've never heard of him until today. Was watching a Tony Bennet interview where Tony mentioned his name and got curious.

Could not have said it better. Fantastic. A human sax that is smooth as glass....

There has never been a voice or a stylist like him.
That is genuine music
This is one of my favorite songs ever and I've. Never heard it done better. Too bad he's gone.

First note, first word and you're lost in the stars...
I Love this song!! Brings tears to my Heart!! The whole sound track!!
I am in love with the man his voice
MARAVILLOSO TEMA DE LOS PUENTES DE MADISON!!!!!! ME EMOCIONA ESTE INTÉRPRETE Y ESTA CANCIÓN!!!!!!
One of my favorite movies , it shows how much we lack in love and be in a relationship for years, someone comes along and shows us who we are in Love!!!!! 🌹🌹🌹
CD over and over...never tire of this beautiful music.
Such a melodious voice! God bless him wherever he may be.
Pre sound, pure notes, so damn vocal articulate - what else is there to say. I only wish that he had received the world's applause as did others...
FINE singer -- Thank you John Coltrane (and Clint Eastwood) for bringing this man to my attention. 4/2019
Just listened to Jonathan for four hours and this man deserves more air play. Jv
Class in a restaurant with candle light with this music will never fade even in 2022.
my favorite version of this song!
I heard it in The Bridges Of Madison County and I fell in love with it.
The sax player for this album, and this track, is Frank Wess. He was my neighbor in Queens, NY. Trumpet: Joe Wilder.
Thank you. Was wondering who the other musicians were on this song.
Great job! At first I thought it was Ben Webster - that wide vibrato - but I know Webster's sound well and was dying to know who it was.
Ah . . . so beautiful. So very beautiful.
I can't listen to this without crying.
One of the best romantic songs you will ever hear.
An amazing voice.
One of the top three greatest versions! Love it!
Que maravilla de música!! Y que gran historia de amor,
This is heavenly.
Simply Marvelous, Daaaling!!!...Thanks...can never get too much of the smooth one.
His voice makes me breathless.
Yes..........thanks Classy Clint......he’s giving so much “new” music.
Legendary voice ..
So amazing...such great voice and music🎶❤️
This is the music for true love
Simply superb.

Johnny Hartman is great. But this song was written by J Fred Coutts. Same cat wrote Santa Claus is Coming to Town and the big one You Go To
My Head.
@@peterwhitford3819You are right. J Fred Coutts wrote the music, but Sam Lewis wrote the lyrics.
This movie open my eyes to see something that will never be. My biggest regret hurting, some I loved with the passion he loved her. Then hurting myself as well. Do what you have to do to, be happy. There is so much beauty in this life.
lovely no music like this today

Johnny Hartman is one of my favorite singers from the golden jazz age. I love the words of this song. Enjoy!❤❤
I loved his voice
Just sooo beautiful. So lovely a voice.
Great voice!
Extraordinaire voix . Magnifique
I saw this film (The Bridges of Madison County) in the Persidio in San Francisco when I was twelve. Thirty five women held my hand in a theater.
Just makes me think about true ❤️ , Unrecognized talent !!!
