  • Arrangement of Sound of Music and Climb Ev'ry Mountain.
    Long time in the making, but I've finally finished it...
    I've also decided to change the style of the videos, as I think the previous style didn't really fit with my kind of work.

    I love the homage piano writing to Ondine by Ravel! Brilliant arrangement!

      Ravel is the best

      Ahhh that's why it sounds so reminiscent of Ravel

      @@hesangasong What's your process of inspiration in terms of composing? I'm learning Gaspard at a very slow pace and have played pretty much all of Ravel's stuff, I'm trying to write piano pieces with his influence but it's difficult to get the precision-based style he puts into his pieces

      @@LordNev4 I think it's a matter of whether the melody actually fits with the style you are trying to emulate. If you try arranging any random song with a different composers' style, you'll often find that... it can work and sound fine, but it doesn't sound great. Composing to the style you want is tricky as you have to be in the composer's mindset 100%.
      You should try replace the melody you thought of with another composer's piece and see if you think it fits. You'll see the kind of melody Ravel writes is quite different to say Beethoven. Melody & accompaniment style goes hand in hand together which I think is what creates composers' unique musical style.
      So inherently it's kind of important to find the right melody and accompaniment style... *at the same time*... which doesn't really come to you very often.

    Really enjoyed this arrangement and especially the way you played it. Admittedly, I have never seen The Sound of Music, but I can tell how incredible an arrangement like this is. When I try to play pieces that have a lot of scales and arpeggios (idk if that's what they're called) it always sounds muffled and cluttered, but you have a lovely touch, especially on the highest notes. Also really enjoyed that outro bit, just sounded so nice. By the way, really like the new style of the videos.
    Was wondering, what kind of keyboard do you use? Been looking for one, but can't figure out which ones are good.

      Thank you! I’m currently using Yamaha P255, which seems like a popular choice for pianists due to its good key weighting. While the feel is still far from a real piano, it’s still probably one of the nicer feeling/weighted electric piano for its price. I believe Yamaha P125 is a cheaper version of P255 so you could also try looking into that if it is out of your budget.

    Did you study classical music? You are as good as a pianist than as a transcriber

    • @hesangasong
      @hesangasong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      no formal study, but I do wish to pursue it one day.
      I am still more of a composer than a pianist.
