  • Think of this as a "proving ground" for what I mentioned in my last video regarding the versatility of the PENTAX DA 18-135 F/3.5-5.6 ED WR [IF].
It really is a fantastic lens if you're only going to buy one lens to cover 90% of your shooting. From close focus distance pseudo macro to wide angle landscapes and everything in between. If you need a convenient all purpose walk around lens, then this should be on your short list.
Weather sealed, quiet focus, great focal range and great build quality. It really is a great lens that absolutely deserves your attention.
If you'd like to support the channel, you can send a Super Thanks! Or buy some Merch ( a coffee mug perhaps): www.redbubble....
Or even better... You can donate directly, or buy me a beer as thanks via Paypal: www.paypal.me/...
Every proceed goes directly into a "from the donations" fund strictly for acquiring camera gear that you'd be interested in knowing about. Unless you tell me you've donated beer money, then beer it is.

You can tell by looking for a used 18-135mm DA that it is a great lens because there are so few of them out on the market. Love the Geese on parade.

Awesome video! My go to lens under rain, snow, and also during canoeing and kayaking. Overall, since 2012, an overwhelming majority of my shots is through this lens. I started with this lens in 2012 and then bought 300 f4 in December 2013. I continued with these two lenses only till 2016 when I bought 100 mm.

If I go to for instance a new city this is the lens that goes with me as it great for Street and architecture plus it’s light to carry and so versatile.

I like both the Monochrome and color version of the tree with excessive sap and ants.

Great video. I recently had a similar experience on vacation. I normally have the Sigma 17-70 on my K-3 III as my "all purpose" lens. But I also brought the 18-135 along on this trip as well. Because of the versatility you mentioned - I had the 18-135 on the camera almost the whole time. (I just changed it when I needed a longer lens) The Sigma and Pentax occupy the same general niche as walk-around lenses and represent some trade-offs. The Sigma is a little wider and faster. It does not have a WR rating and is a little heavier. The 18-135 gives you extra reach. I've noticed a few other things over the years switching back and fourth between the two lenses. Wide open, the Sigma is sharper in the corners. It is also a macro lens. Stopped down, the two lenses are very similar. I'd like to know the f-stops on some of your images. The micro-contrast on the Sigma is also better. In the Pentax's favor, I believe the focus is a tiny bit faster and the extra length is very helpful sometimes. (For grins, I tested it with the 1.4 tc just on the long end - not a good combination. The lens hunted quite a bit before locking focus. ) A note about the WR rating on the 18-135 (and this may just be my copy - I bought it used - as they say "your mileage may vary.") I don't have a lot of faith in how weather resistant the lens is - it has allowed moisture to get into the camera. I believe the big problem is with the seals on the zoom. From my experience, if you are using this lens in a very wet environment - don't zoom in or out without first drying the barrel. In light wet weather conditions I don't see any problem. But If you are caught in a downpour - I'd treat it as a non-WR lens, just to make sure you protect your gear. With all of that said, I suspect I will start using the 18-135 more often as my general walk-around lens.

DA 18-135 WR is really 24-70 lens with added reach on both ends on expense of low(er) quality - at least my copy was so bad at both ends. Also AF on K3ii (and K5ii) did not impressed me at all. Very quick locking but hit and miss, non reliable at all. I've got the lens in a kit with K3ii and quickly exchange with a guy that wanted to get rid of DA15 and DA40 and get one WR lens. I did pay small fee to him, but I am rather happy for the swap, since both lenses are far, far better at AF than 18-135 WR. It seems lens works better for landscape than myself forcing Pentax to focus on moving people ;)

Mainly my phone (convenience), sometimes the K-3, sometimes the K-3 Mark III. It all depends.

If you used this lens you should try the FDA 70-200 F4
    Or 24-70 f2.8
Just try to get a test shot from these two lens on K3 iii or KP, the quality is very difference on lens resolution. When scale up.
The limited lens whole better resolution by its name. The detail is not on the sensor, it is more depend on the lens.
AI is the redraw with a mask which is not the actual capture, but a math , which is very difference from lens resolution. The AI assistant was no new technology, it is a enhance technology used on M43 due to the pixel size limited.
