    That's scrappers for you. If you gave them the Mona Lisa, they'd use the frame to fix a fence, and the painting to patch a hole in the roof of the chicken-shed.

    • @jamesfrench7299
      @jamesfrench7299 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which is why you wouldn't piddle on them if they were on fire.

  • @handmaderestor

    That was stupid! Those are the kind of trucks you rebuild, not recycle.

    • @Cydonius1
      @Cydonius1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you rebuild all the old vehicles there would be no space to put them

    A classic old AEC Matador. Dates from around the second world war.
    A collector would have bought that for parts or to restore.
    AEC bits are hard to come by.

    • @egalf
      @egalf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yeah, beyond stupid. This was a complete vehicle with engine, drivetrain and complete cab so it would have certainly been possible to restore it or use everything as spares.

    • @nlo114
      @nlo114 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That's scrap-dealers for you. If you gave them a priceless painting, they'd probably nail it to the roof to stop the rain coming in. Old AEC matadors are worth more for parts than for scrap, but to the grab-driver, it's just work.

      You are right, I part out older grain trucks and semis and I want to sell/use as much as I possibly can before it gets crunched, sad to see good stuff go to the shredder

      It's easy to obtain AEC parts, it's just most are for the Routemaster.

    That truck still had a lot of use left if it had landed in the right hands.

  • @gavincurtis

    Surprised that collector value wouldn't exceed scrap value on something like this. So many bigfoots out there and not enough retired military trucks rebuilt into mind blowing adventure RV's to find them. Look at the frame on that beast, good to go another 100 years if it had to.

  • @donaldparlettjr3295

    That is a crying shame to that to a nice old truck like that but most likely they kept a few of them and did sell in a timely fashion or they didn't get what they were asking for price wise mostly likely due to the lack of knowledge on counting

    NO KIDDING I am a military truck collector in the US, if a truck like that was running and in even close to drive able condition its a 10,000 USD$ truck every day!! You know guys this is bad BUT in the USA our Govt. instead of canceling a contract with BAE systems for MRAPS in Texas we had them continue to fulfill our contract then the US Govt. took possession of them and drove them 7 miles to a location that was somewhat away from prying eyes and scrapped them at that location. Oh did I say the US taxpayers paid 1 million USD per truck per truck!

    It doesn't look like much was left of it and it hasn't run in years. No windows means it's been sitting in someone's field for years and the interior is likely a rat colony. Look at all the dirt (rust) that fell out. This looks like a case of perceived value far exceeding actual value or some collector would have got it already.

    "Oddly Satisfying To Watch" Yo avin a laff ar kid? That was a rare AEC Militant from the 1950's and looked in good nick. Respray and resto would have been worth a fair few grand to military vehicle collectors with their Massive Wads o' Cash. You guys nay too bright, aye happen, strong in arm, thick in head northern born, northern bred.
    What you destroyed: The AEC Militant, aka "Milly" was the 1952 replacement for the Matador workhorse and continued in various auxiliary models until the 1970s.
