This animated show cuts from different episodes of the podcast and mashes them together a bit which is why some things might not seem that connected to the conversation they had before it and such.
It also includes content that was never in the podcasts, like Karl referring to that "travel thing" on several occasions, which is no doubt a reference to An Idiot Abroad, a show that was probably filmed in 2009. Some stories are from 2006, and others are from maybe as late as 2010 or 2011.
A lot, if not most, of these questions had already been asked on the XFM show. Ricky and Steve sat down and wrote the questions they knew Karl would have brilliant answers to and then the actual podcast has been cut down by about 10-20 mins for the animated version.
A lot of people are pointing out the that the episodes are snippets taken from different podcasts and that's why the subjects and topics of conversations change quickly. This is part of the reason, but it's also the fact that Ricky knows what is funny, and he's constantly bouncing ideas off Karl and trying to get him thinking or put him in to imaginary scenarios to see how he'll react etc. So if something isn't working, or Ricky doesn't think it's funny, he'll immediately move to something else. From Ricky and Steve's standpoint, these conversations aren't serious, they're solely to get Karl to react in a humorously.
That is by fair my favourite part of the eppisode where he just admits “I don’t know what I’m talking about” 🤣 thanks for making me laugh on a daily basis with random old shows n ur infectious laugh Mandy! Really needed a little chuckle today 😊
I never understood Ricky's thing about "there'd be no stress" if we didn't know we were dying. If dying was something that made you stressed anyway, you'd just think "what if I die in tonight's sleep".
Yeah I know what you mean. On some level I guess he’s just saying that it would illuminate the anxiety of dying from AIDS after being gang raped by clowns or being in a car crash that reduced you and your family to dust because the petrol tank ruptured and somehow doused the interior with burning fuel so intensely hot that the resulting fire burned away everything down to the chassis, but you’d still spend your life frightened to go to sleep at night wondering if you’d wake to see the next morning.
The tribesmen they were talking about are on the North Sentinel islands, they're very aggressive and untrusting of outsiders, I think he's referring to an incident where fishermen got shipwrecked on the island and they had to fight off the tribesmen so they were rescued by helicopter. They were stone age people but have recently moved into the iron age by using scraps of metal from the shipwreck
@@pmbbmp thanks for correcting me, the point about iron age is that from arrowheads they've been attaching iron tips to them made from metal they've found, so they've been shaping it and sharpening it which qualifies as entering the iron age
I also love how Karl basically described the plot of the Horizon Zero Dawn game. In that game they were very advanced in technology, then the world "ends" and they basically went back to caveman times, and you'd discover "lost relics", such as ipods/phones/etc.

13:44 Ricky does that a lot on the XFM show as well. Every time Ricky tries to say something about Karls explanation of things, his use of words and diction etc, Steve always brings Ricky back down from it. "A little bit of pot and kettle there Rick?" Ricky is easily excited and even more easily bored so he will cut off his own sentences if he gets bored halfway through them!
This wasn't the funniest episode ever, but I feel like it still has value because Karl has such a unique mind that he makes you consider things that would never normally enter your head. Yea, I'm basically a sentient cheeseburger, so even now I sometimes get nervous going to sleep thinking about whether this will be how I die. If I knew 100% that I'd die in my sleep, I'd just end up passing out from exhaustion every 3 or 4 days.
They have had very little contact with the outside world, and most of the contact that happened has been hostile. The Indian government had sent officials to the island with gifts of coconuts but they had to leave after being threatened by the natives. After the boxing day tsunami of 2004 a coast guard helicopter flew over to check if the islanders were safe- a man was seen with a bow and arrow and he fired an arrow at the helicopter. The Indian government forbids anyone from visiting this island as previous attempts at contact have been so hostile. In recent years- I'm not sure how long ago but it was after the 2004 boxing day tsunami- a Christian missionary ignored the ban and made his way to the Island to preach to them. The boat that dropped him off close by and was waiting for him saw him being slaughtered on the beach. I don't remember exactly but I don't think his body was retrieved. An amazing example of a stone age culture that exists right now. Karl was right on this one- I don't know about the bit about them shaking their tackle- but they definetly shake their spears to show visitors they are not welcome.
I *think* that when Karl said fish have more rights, I assume he means they have more freedom and diversity, like physically having more space to live in and there being more of them and millions of different species living together. Or it could have just been another bizarre Karl thought that even he didn't really process before he said it. Always hard to tell with Karl.
