So pretty much what this video has taught us is that Gold is pretty much as chaotic as bronze with slightly better mechanics and questionably better game sense.
You generally don’t see any level of coordination until Diamond. To get out of Gold you just need to not position like someone without a monitor. To get out of Plat you just need to coordinate ults
@Rekcha I meant more like the shield usage. I'm a diamond 1 Rein main that has climbed up from gold and I promise when I was gold I never just stood in choke to let my shield break. Made plenty of other mistakes and wasn't aggressive enough but holding shield until it breaks feels like such a bronze concept to me.
@The Da Guy more likely, there was a change to your gameplay that got you out of gold that carried on into Plat. For example as a Rein I just stopped peeling for my backline and tried to trade, took aggressive positions, and made it my job to pressure hitscan off high ground if they were farming us. Sure gold is wild, but as long as you play enough and are the best player in the lobby making the fewest mistakes, elo hell is a myth.
Gold is weird because you can really tell who is going back down to silver and who really is just stopping by on their way to plat I think this is where you see a lot of people play their back up roles and definitely smurfs
I love the silent communication you often see in gold games. hold a shield in front of a bastion, suddenly it's an OW1 pirate ship comp for the rest of the game. play pharah, suddenly you're running phar-mercy the whole game. build your ult as reaper, suddenly everyone's trying to set up a really good reaper ult. run genji and ana, ONLY that genji's getting nano'd even if it kills the whole team.
The Rein shield should have been counted as a random ability used. I am very happy you moved to show silver and gold as well. Hopefully this will help me understand different strategies through the tiers. Awesome videos. Keep up the great work!
The shield should count. In the Blizzard notes, it specifically says that Rein’s shield will obtain a 5 second cooldown if it breaks. If your shield is at 1hp, it regenerates to 70hp in 2.5 seconds, you can still put it up immediately to block a last minute earth shatter etc. But once it breaks, you have 5 second cooldown that is a set, consistent number that is followed every time it breaks. That’s an ability.
Spectating bingo has become one of my favorite things to watch. TH-cam can sometimes feel unstructured vs a traditional tv show but at least I have 20-40 mins of vod review bingo to look forward to multiple times a week.
@@hugo9369 if the shield is broken it’s mitigating dmg is it not? Also a regenerating shield is technically not a cooldown. You can take dmg with your shield and regenerate it without breaking the shield.
The way I see it, every shield/barrier is an ability. It's a right click but it's not an alt- fire like McCree or Zen and it's not a zoom like Ana or Widow. Therefore it should count
For ability randomly used, if the Rein shield is recharging, and it's getting put up for no reason which delays it's regen I'd say randomly used, as technically it's delaying the CD via pausing the recharge
I would love it if Emongg maybe did a high elo bingo with high elo options. Im imagining a masters game where “clutch play”, and “long stagger” are on the bingo card
Technically shield has a cooldown if it breaks. Same thing as Defence Matrix, Projected Barrier from Sigma. If they're just doing it to do it, and not for anything to be significantly blocked, then it's random use.
I think the Rein shield counts as an 'ability randomly used' if they let it break when they didn't need to. That's when it goes on cooldown, and if you let it break outside of extreme circumstances, it's as good as wasting any other cooldown.
Anything that can go on cooldown is an ability. When a shield breaks, it goes on cooldown while it recharges. So Brigittte, Rein and Sigma all have ability cooldown on shield.
I think the spirit of "ability randomly used" is that it wastes resources. If Rein was just spamming it up while walking, sure, don't count it, but he's burning shield health and blocking shield regen by randomly using it! Definitely ability randomly used.
Rein shield randomly being used should count as an ability being randomly used. It would be the same thing with ball's transform or crossfade on lucio.
i would say rein's shield use doesn't count as random, not because it isn't an ability, but because it wasn't random. the shield wouldn't've kept breaking if he wasn't blocking anything. you could argue it was ineffective or inefficient, or a poor usage, but i don't think it could really be characterized as random.
Yes if your shield break's it takes longer to start regeneration of shield!! Have a dedicated healer and let him carry 🎉😂 you have to be careful in the event your dos is not that good on your team
Pretty sure my Kiriko teleported in front of me when I was trying to nano my ulting Genji on the same day that I learned about the "confirm nano" option or whatever it's called. Haven't accidentally nano-boosted anyone since. Kiriko and I just stopped and looked at each other for a second, I was like "Throw knives! Use it!" and Genji was PISSED
I’ve been like… ‘this isn’t good.’ Then I see the tank die in the middle of the enemy team and I look to the mercy and go ‘y’know what, fuck it. Mercy, get in there.’ And then I nano them as they fly in because why the fuck not at that point.
Venn diagram in general needs to be on the bingo card. This'd count for any intersecting circular ults/abilities. Mei ult, Sig ult, Orisa ult, Lamp, etc
Reins might randomly shield to get a larger Field of View or to mitigate any non lethal damage if they see someone far away, maybe it's pointless to do so but it's not really random. Randomly used would be like throwing firestrike to their own teammates or charging to advance 2 meters. So no, Shield doesn't count.
rein shield shouldn't count. No cooldown because "it can break" doesn't happen if it's used randomly. Means no fire coming in. And there's no drawback. It would be like lucio booping out of spawn. Basically, if you count it, it just becomes a free square like "long team fight" where you might as well check it off in the beginning.
Such a maddening part of overwatch is staggering. The only reason that it exists is because of a sort of prisoners dilemma: people don't group up because they either don't care or they think that their teammates don't. In theory this results in unnecessary unorganized play in levels where it shouldn't be at. A system of forced grouping up should be implemented. I think this can be explored with role queue and how after it was implemented team comps were forced into organization. I feel like such a fundamental issue with low ELO is that it is frustrating to play and consistently under-rewarding in your rank. Overwatch just makes no sense: they make you move through ranks at a snails pace (a choice that impacts players in ELO hell) then does stuff like nerfing Genii and juicing Sojourn (making lower ranks more fair while enraging higher levels of play)
I would say the random shield usage should have counted. When you go to reins hero info, the shield is an ability, not a passive, not the name of the gun, it is an ability. Edit: saying that it isn’t an ability because of the zero second cooldown would make sojourns railgun not an ability.
@@Havocme7 no problem, it’s just that the damage reduction is overlooked because once someone gets a nano it’s either a team wipe with it or they’re are the primary focus target
lol Emongg you have to realize that I'm a Rein main and my main spray is the shatter spray. I have to spray the spawn door and then swing my hammer just under it to make it look like scorched earth. It's good luck for me and if I don't then I'll have bad luck so if you ever spectate me you will see it. I'm Gold 5 currently with a 72% winrate in comp with Rein. I just have spray.
The argument that reins shield is an ability is that if it breaks the Regen time = cool down but if it broke the shield was used to stop something so it's more like a passive like support passive rein always has shield and if he uses it and it breaks it wasn't random and if he uses and there is no one there it doesn't have a cool down it's more of a passive.
It's not randomly used, putting your shield up at random times could block potential damage, so I don't think it counts as a random ability use if it technically has a use.
Rein shield shouldnt count as using it provides you with a 3rd person perspective, while it can be a little random, some of these intervals provide him with LOS of the enemy team, regardless of if we think he would need that at the time, he does get more information by using the shield, even when not "shielding his team"
I think the way rein was behind natural cover but still using his shield counts as randomly using abilities. He's not getting any benefit, and he's exposing the side of the shield to enemy view.
If rein putting their shield up randomly doesn’t count I believe half of the charges in this game should be. I’m not the best rein in the world, but my goodness I can see a random charge from a mile away
For Rein's shield, I don't see it as an ability But more like a Secondary weapon. While it isn't a weapon, you can't swing hammer while using shield, so you're effectively swapping equipment. So it's not an ability.
Rein putting shield up when there is no threat, i.e. no enemy in sight/ behind cover, should count as random use of ability imo. Great video. I enjoyed it :)
Given that most of the bronze games do not yield a bingo and seeing that the first gold game resulted in a bingo while using the bronze metrics, does this mean that a gold game is more bronze than a bronze game?
So can someone explain to me what's the difference between your shield breaking and not letting it break? To me, it seems like it takes the same amount of time to start recharging either way.
It takes twice as long to start recharging if it breaks, and you can't use it until it does, whereas if it doesn't break, you can shield immediately again if you need to block something
i think randomly used means when ya do it really random, trying to predict Rein to push and nade him, has a purpose? Rein shield is hard one tho, if you use it to get 3rd person view its not random but it has purpose? even it looks random.
Even in plat/dia I watch my team hold that far forward on defense and I hate it with every fiber of my being (And no, I don't think the shield should count as an ability randomly used.)
Emongg the shield is an ability. It's not a passive and if it's broken it indeed has a cooldown. How is it that Soldier Sprint is an ability but Rein shield isn't? I say it counts 100%.

I know this is an old ass video, but I’ll just throw my two cents in anyways. Firstly, I’ll count Rein shield to be an ability. But I still don’t think it would count, nor the Ana Nade. To me, “random” would mean almost absent mindedly or just without thought. Example, if the Rein was spamming his shield as he was walking to the cart or something, that would count. However, everytime he put up the shield, it wasn’t “without reason”, there was thought out behind it. Was it inefficient, or necessary? Maybe, but they’re not just spamming their ability all Willy nilly. Even some of their charges, I can see the thought process behind it, making it not random. Same goes that Ana, I personally wouldn’t consider that “random” since she tried to predict there would be someone in that spot as the nade hit. Basically, “The risk I took was calculated, but man I’m bad at math”.
Is mirror matchup common in top500? because from all the matches I played and watched, i have never seen one. It's like impossible to have one as people would prefer different heroes and there would always be at least 1 or 2 different. How about changing "mirror matchup" to like "3/4 out of 5 mirror match up"? like you will have a better chance to get that, mirror matchup is like 0%
Should holding shield count? It’s literally called “ability 2” on mouse2 is it not? For sure should count imo Love the videos. Appreciate the high octane gaming.
