Badlands - Ball And Chain: The song was released only three months after Extreme's first hit radio single "Kid Ego" which has similar riff and opening wall of feedbacking guitars. To Jake E Lee's credit, his version of the Nuno inspired riff has far more swagger in a Led Zeppelin kind of way, where Extreme's Kid Ego has the groove of a click track recorded pop song. Ray Gillen... is there a better hard rock singer? Maybe Geoff Tate? My favorite Ray Gillen moment ever is the song "Flesh And Blood" with George Lynch. I heard that Ray was one singer George considered for Lynch Mob.
Yeah, that’s insane. Jake is awesome, and I hope he recovers quickly and fully! Look to Larry Carlton if you ever need encouragement and inspiration Jake!
Just when I said 'that's it, I don't need to buy anything else, I've got everything I need'........I love Jake! My biggest inspiration and favourite player of all time!! I guess I am getting one!!!
for me, his tone on Ultimate Sin was just awesome. I think that album is one of ozzy's best and thats due to Jakes massive riffs. I liked his stuff better than Zakk, but Zakk is still a monster, I just happen to think Jake was a better player and song writer.
Leon, that was an outstanding representation of that preamp! I’m quite a bit like other writers. I’m sure saying I’ve got quite enough gear but every time I see you demoing a product you sell it, buddy! Killer chops! I wish you could get ragdoll over to the states.!! keep them coming, brother
This sounds fantastic and the editor is great. Pretty convincing JCM 800 sound. Imagine a George Lynch/Friedman collab pedal. You nailed the Jake E Lee tone from Bark At The Moon + coffee!! If you like this kind of guitar tone, check out the Canadian alternative to the Ozzy/Ratt/Dokken sound - The Killer Dwarfs (Dirty Weapons). I love what Dave Friedman is doing with his IR series, offering analog preamp alternatives to the amp modeler/amp capture pedal. I wrote and asked him kindly for a two channel/stereo Vox AC30TB & Fender Twin Reverb pedal. He wasn't against the idea, fingers crossed, because that would make for the best clean/edge of breakup pedal platform rig!
@@LeonTodd Wow! That's a really cool tidbit of juicy info Leon. Dave is a genius and only has so much time in the day, but an AC30 Top Boost channel in IR pedal form would be the idea clean/EOB partner for the Fractal VP4, with a parallel mix/blend pedal in there, to maintain the all analog beauty of a possible Friedman IR-V.
I was getting ready to pull the trigger on an IR-X for my STP tribute, but just had Dave Friedman recommend the IR-J to get the closest to the Demeter preamp that Dean DeLeo uses.
Ulimate Sin ,Bark at the moon ,Jake is such a inspiration and Im shocked right now hearing the bad news ,Prayers for a Full recovery Jake we love you brother
Great playing. I was obsessed with Jake for decades, still play most of the tracks from the first and second Badlands albums myself. Just one correction, the Ozzy album you referred to wasn't 'Shot in the Dark' album, 'The Ultimate Sin' album, was it's name, though it did have the song 'SITD' on there. Years ago I found a remastered CD of 'Bark at the Moon', it had a different tracklisting to the album I'd had since the early 1980s, and a song I'd never heard before called 'Slow Down'. I was like a kid in a candy store. His solo album 'A Fine Pink Mist' also has some great stuff on it.
Oh boy... I knew this was coming as Friedman and Jake had a bit of a "release party" during the Tone Talk stream last week. Dave mentioned it would be officially available on Oct 15 (today) ...and after watching this I checked the Sweetwater website and there it is for $599 USD. I don't need it (I already have an IR-X along with a collection of pedals), but damn I do want it...
Great demo Leon! What would be the best way to use this with the FM9/FFR route? Would you run the FM9 through the FX loop of the IRJ then run the IRJ into the FFR?
I love my IRX. This is intriguing and has some interesting features. At this point I feel like I need to wait another year or so to see what else Friedman might come out with before I commit to buying another pedal And I’ll say again that it would be great if BAD was able to start doing some of the other synergy modules in this format but if it hasn’t happened by now it’s probably not going to happen
This sounds excellent (as expected tbh)! Would have loved to see some Drop C riffage through this as well. Comparison between the RI-X and JEL coming sometime soon?
Does the ir have a ev 12l capture. Jake swears by those speakers. I’ve never played through them but I do believe that’s an important part of his tone. Especially the Badlands era stuff. Another great vid man. Thanks!!
Can’t wait to check out this pedal. I’ve been wanting to sell my IR-X because I’m just not digging the tone. Sounds nothing like a Friedman. I’m told this one sounds exactly like the Jake Lee amp.
I’ve been wanting the JEL20. With dedicated tone controls for each channel this might make more sense. I was confused about the G12M-75. I guess it’s a 25W 75Hz Blackback?
I'm gonna get the IR-D for certain, and then add a IR-X or IR-J, but I'm torn between the IR-X and IR-J, what differences tonally are there between the IR-X and IR-J would you say? I'm leaning on the IR-X since it's 100 USD less than the IR-J, but I do love that red color and few extra options 👀
I can’t decide, the IR-J or the JEL 50…Question,what is the IR length in the IR pedals?…can you select a longer IR,or are they truncated to 20ms or so?..
Really considering getting this thing and selling my helix, would anybody who has any experience with the Friedman IR serious consider that a good swap? I love the simplicity of this thing, and it sounds great (at least on TH-cam)
@@LeonTodd Not much, already have a full pedalboard that this would slide right in like Whitesnake. I pretty much only use the marshall style amps on the Helix anyways so I guess that solves it! Thanks buddy!
Sounds a little thin, or a lot thin. A lot of top end with this one, I’m not hearing a lot of low frequencies but it’s warm enough to pinch off a few harmonics… Not for me but I’m sure a lot of people will like this.
@@shredaintdead9323no it doesn’t. Just low or high gain switch that would be more like the push pull gain on the the JEL-20, but it’s not the SAT switch.

That’s harsh… maybe Leon should you listen to less loud music… with ear loss we lose high perception first and you dial your gear exactly like my father’s patients.
