Waoh! This is nice tune and I like the technique which is being displayed. Moreover i like the rich culture of Luo community and this must have a positive impact on tourism in Kenya. Am a music student in Moi University, main campus-Eldoret.
Yep, this is tradtinal Luo music This image was taken of a picture with garden of homabey hotel at homabey of west Kenya in 1996. To our regret, the player is the deceased. They were wonderful musicians. Orutu has the possibility of obtaining in the Nyanza provinces in Kenya.
@jakakwaro Are you joking? Alego is the heart of Luoland, the source of all Luo in Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan and Kenya. Alego is the home of Luo Language and Culture. Alego's the home of all the Luo. Alego is the treasure, the gift that the Luo received from their ancestors and which they are all preserving. While colonisation tried to destroy Luo Culture and musical instruments, in Alego and Ugenya they met the biggest resistance which saved Luo Culture. Proof, "kinanda" is not played in Alego.
@@nicquewes6744 Aloka's should be ohangla which's different from the original ORUTU. I have seen some combinations done by ALOKA though it's not exactly how it should be.
This was a nice short Ebizo. I am in Homabay now at the garden where the late Ambila and Muga played this number.
We have great Cultural heritage.....ours is to preserve it not as museum pieces but rather as living aspects of our lives!!
How i wish i could get to watch these guys play live on stage any time soon.
+Simon Wandanda Hello sammy

Amazing sound! Johann Abungu plays the European version (violin) but will learn the orutu as well when I get hold of one. Regards from the UK.
