The white family is playing a Jenga game. Jenga is Swahili for Kujenga which means "To build". The Jenga puzzle falls on its own after the Public Broadcast warning comes on the TV. Meaning what was built is about to fall.

According to Psychology Today we watch reruns cause: “Repeated viewing fulfills emotional needs, gives us comfort, provides a sense of control over our lives, and connects us with our past. Familiar shows provide an appealing mix of relaxation and stimulation, and an unexpected combination of old and new.”

I'm at the 22:50 point in the video, and this is the best breakdown so far.
Edit:My assessment still stands. You guys were able to point out things others did not in there breakdown. I would definitely watch a full breakdown.
My overall, thought of the film is that we are going back to analog in a digital age. We have been able to talk to people all over the world and at a flick of a switch we are disconnected. I also observed a dig at streaming services and that it's is best to physically own things i.e. DVDs. Gen Z and Alpha are not being taught history or how to do practical things and heavily rely on technology to complete everyday task.

I love this movie, too. When I saw the White Lion, I got goosebumps! To me, Rose represented quintessential whiteness. The English Rose. The English that came over. The "innocence and beauty' of Waspness that is worshiped in America. It was not by mistake; she looked like Princess Diana when she was young. Her brother's name is Archie, Diana's grandson, who embodies royalty and enslaved African bloodline and what those two groups mean in American history. Rose's obsession with Friends is a look at the world as if the "stain" never existed. A world of no color folks. Just pure waspness that could be looked at over and over again. As G.H.'s daughter stated, "It is nostalgia for a time that never existed." Her need to know what happens at the end of Friends would satisfy the question of will white people get the happiness they came here for and the continuous of white people's need to stick their heads in the sand about the world around them.

Couldn’t it be that she wanted to watch the end of friends as an escape from the terrible reality that was surrounding her? And, that technology, while taken away from the country in the movie, was missed so badly that she was blissful to have a taste of it? Or, couldn’t have been a bunch of other things? I’m struggling to tie it all together the way it’s laid out here. In other words, the movie has nothing to do with anything but our countries era of slavery and racist history?

Sag Harbor is also mentioned during the beach scene as a place the son wants to travel to meet a friend. However the mother mentioned that it’s an hour away to travel meaning it’s too far. Sag Harbor in the Hamptons would later become a beachfront refuge for Blacks in the early 1900s.

There is one easter egg that everyone is still missing. The "cracks" in the background. On the wall in both homes (the white family and the black family homes) it is cracks in the wall, wheather it is an acual wall that has been painted over or the kitchen wallpaper. Everytime I see the "cracks" in the background the chararcters shows distrust, disconnect between them, lies, and arguments. I took it as cracks in union of humanities. Many people notice the waves in the bedroom moving up and changing and even the black and white picture changed 3 times into chaos, but not the cracks.

Ok, I haven't seen this anywhere but here are my observations of a few other Easter Eggs:
1-Obey NASA. Since this was tied to the events of what happened in Virginia, is it a homage to the Hidden Figures at NASA Langley in Virginia?
2-The Deer. Buck breaking during slavery times?
3-The Flamingos-the largest species of flamingos are called lesser flamingos and are from Africa. Is the purpose of the flamingos in the pool to remind us of the white lion coming onshore with the slaves?

Did anyone catch this? When the young man’s teeth fell out? The young lion of a house, its future, is typically a military-age male. When his teeth started falling out, it was a metaphor for the past system everyone was comfortable with, losing its teeth. That also ties into the three stages of collapse the Scott character outlined. This flick was a very interesting intellectual exercise.

I don’t know if anyone called this out but the thing I found most intriguing about this movie was the way they were able to shut down the satellites. Now compare that to the scene where all the Tesla’s are blocking the road making it and could’ve been like symbolism for Internet not being able to be accessed but the same person who runs Skylink runs Tesla. And Skylink makes up 50% of the satellites that are in orbit around the planet right now. Maybe the Obamas were pointing to a single person that could actually make this happen.

And Ruth waving her hands and arms up and down, as if she was doing an African dance to ward off danger. She is positioned behind Mrs. Sanford, symbolizing two ideas-black women in the back always saving the day for white women and we also come from people that is attune with nature.

Also, I think it is of interests that when Rose sneaks off to the neighbors house, she is seen chowing down on sugary cereal and junk food when previously, at her own house, her parents kept her feed on healthy things.

Wow!! This was a really good analogy and break down to this movie, LTWB. As soon as I saw the names Scott- (vs) -Sanford I IMMEDIATELY KNEW wat it was talking about! This was an awesome Easter egg. And for me this changes the whole outlook & scope now to this movie! Bcuz the Dred Scott case was NEVER OVERTURNED and all SC rulings have to be overturned in order to come off the books to no longer being the "Law of the Land". But this connection of the Dred Scott case puts this movie into a more critical view/perspective meaning now that BOTH "Negros" and "Caucasians" are "NEO" SLAVES TO A SYSTEM that they NEVER UNDERSTOOD in the 1st place NOR KNEW HOW TO deal with/combat a "domestic crisis" MILITARILY OR ECONOMICALLY wich both "ethnic" families were oblivious about. The reason why I say this is bcuz of the songs that were placed in the movie score. The Kool & the Gang''s track specifically as well as the "Friends" song in the end. If you listen to the lyrics of the FRIENDS theme song it alludes to "neo commercial slavery" in the lyrics.

I only noticed 1619 & the images on the packaging in the cellar (cream of wheat, the Indian head corn meal, etc) and at first I was like Heit and thought it was whack that they ended it on Rose’s face, not because I need a finite ending but because the adults were out looking for her risking their lives (I especially didn’t like that Ruth was out looking for her she being a young lady herself on top of how Amanda behaved) and Rose was in a house gorging on snack food and watching TV. However, now after watching this, it probably symbolizes how the “Roses” , male or female, of the world get to escape or don’t have to deal with the realities of the world while enjoying the fruits of someone else’s labor (the people whose house she broke into)

Did anyone pick up on the Obey T shirt next to the NASA T shirt in the same frame? The OBEY brand is an hommage to the movie “They live” in where the protagonist wears special glasses to see who actually rules the world and what they use to control it. In leave the world behind GH also alludes to how there are no actual forces controlling the world while he jokes about the Cabala people in the same scene. So the White Lion scene was to show you that ships couldn't dock just anywhere on the surrounding coastlines due to the existence of coral reefs. Charles Darwin wrote a book about these because he was tasked with locating them so that a route could be mapped to the New World for ships. So ships coming to the new world came thru the New York islands and to get inland they had to come thru the Charlestown Harbor to get to the Mississippi as Mark Twain wrote in his many of books. So the Statue of Liberty was not a gift from France, it was the lighthouse that stayed lit to guide you to the New World. Like the Motel 6 commercial "We'll leave the light on for you". The #30 represents that most ships could only hold up to 30 people at the most. So when the 2 pirate ships raided the ship Bautista, one took 21 women of color and the other carried 23 for a total of 44 women commandeered. They were robbing ships for minerals like silver and gold when they took the women as cargo. They then went to Charleston Harbor, by way of the Mississippi, trying to see what they could get for the women. So they were not slave ships. This also debunks the theory that hundreds of people of color were shipped to the America's from the West Indyes. The Atlantic Slave Trade was the migration of Europeans to the America's by way of the Statue of Liberty. People of color are the aboriginals of the America's and the Slave Trade was the way to ship them out of the America's so that the new migrants could create the New World. The freed men of color owned the lands and had their own government known as the Nation of Aboriginals (Indians as we refer to them today). Migrants stayed in shacks and tp's because they needed employment to survive in the New World. Over time the new government was started and the Indian nations were told that they could not be part of the new government because they had their own government. So Indians denounced their ethnicity because the New World said that they were not citizens of their own lands. Which means they had to give up rights land ownership just to classified as 2nd class citizens of this New World.

So you're just gonna ignore that there is a clear difference between Charleston and Charlestown? The movie isn't talking about Charlestown or the Revolutionary War. The connections all have to fit together.

1619 on the car stereo in the movie
In late August, 1619, 20-30 enslaved Africans landed at Point Comfort, today's Fort Monroe in Hampton, Va., aboard the English privateer ship White Lion. In Virginia, these Africans were traded in exchange for supplies. Several days later, a second ship (Treasurer) arrived in Virginia with additional enslaved Africans

I definitely couldn't just pass this off as predictive programming. Julia Roberts had a line in the movie after the ship on the beach. She was shocked by how the kids were just playing in the pool as if nothing happened. "They're just on to the next episode". I feel like this is a lot of us, completely desensitized to countless tragic events or disturbances. The friends reference and reruns was a very interesting point. Our young people may not see the writing on the wall when it comes to history repeating itself. The history in this country is being white washed to the point our younger generation may not be prepared for what's coming next.

"I own this building" is a statement of a Power Differential by the landlord and a veiled threat intended to intimidate the renter. You've got to wonder why a guy who rents out his big mansion for $1000 per night can't just rent a hotel room for $100 or $200 per night. But instead, he chooses to intrude on his renter's privacy and vacation time. That's Hollywood for you -- it doesn't have to make sense.

    • @svenet2500
      @svenet2500 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It makes all the sense in the world. There was chaos and a blackout, traffic lights were not working, in such a sudden change in circumstances and crisis mode you don’t go looking for a hotel during a blackout, you go where you know for sure there will be lights and your refuge and that’s home. He said he owned the place for 20 years therefore he knew the roads like the back of his hands all he needed was lights from his Bentley to light the path. It’s common sense and that house is big enough to host multiple families. So common sense dictates he made the right move both by buying a house in the hamlet and going to it when the hotels were being bombed downtown.

Amanda: " Did you forget those people are still in our house?" Entitlement in play! Also did not the owner of the house (Scott) choose to accommodate the renters,(Sanford) by staying in the basement ? Perhaps there was a reason.
Question, how did the mentioning of Sag Harbour by the son fit the script? Great review of this movie. Thanks for the historical connections

    • @braddaddis371
      @braddaddis371 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I find this a tough one. While I agree with you in one sense, another part of me is thinking “well the Scott’s DID rent out there house and signed a rental agreement/contract to give rights to the renters in order to make a profit (in which they would have had nothing terrible gone wrong)”. Idk, I think Scott taking the basement was more morally the right thing to do in his mind. Maybe if he’d given back 100% of the money they paid, perhaps they would have imposed there will a bit more and said “screw the rental agreement… shit is hitting the fan”.
At the end of the day, Scott is a good human as we see when he is helping to get the son medicine. I don’t think he was being “submissive”. My 2 cents.

This is the best analysis I’ve seen of this movie and the first that really gave me that 💡 moment. The house represents the country. When GH said he put a lot into remodeling the house, that’s kinda like slaves building America, but despite that they are relegated to “the basement”, or the lower levels of society. The struggle was about the Black folk putting on a good face to keep the White people happy while living in the same house/country.

    14th Floor.
IMO this movie isn't necessary to inspire people to think about how we respond to one another. If you think about 9/11 when our country faced being under attack our people (the people of this nation) did what actually comes natural to all humans, we came together. It didn't matter what hood you were from, what race you were if you were American you were flying your flag and hoping for the best for yourself and All Americans. Sure there were a few village idiots who thought it was a reason to hate Muslims but every village has an idiot and we have lots of villages. I feel like most people are too damn tired, busy, happy or working to have time to sit and hate or resent or focus on anyone but themselves and their family. I don't think there would be much hate if we reformed our elections so politics were not so incentivised to pit people against one another. Our government is the only real source of hate this country is subject to. The minute there is too much peace some politician creates a bill or reverses a policy drastic enough to remind our country of old pains and to provoke emotion enough to keep us in a state of chaos and we keep taking the bait.

If you rent a house to someone for a weekend, you do not have the right to show up suddenly and unexpectedly and demand to stay the night. If you do that, the renter has the right to sue you in a court of law for ruining their vacation. It's called Breach of Contract. It would have been appropriate for the Stanfords to call the Police if the Scotts demanded to enter and stay the night.

The Dred Scott decision was a ruling regarding enslaved Africans and their descendants. All brown-skinned (aka “black”) people living in the Americas BEFORE the Europeans came were NOT African but aboriginal, indigenous AMERICANS called Indians. The ruling did not apply to Indians who held onto their ancestral identity. Additionally, Europeans, both pale face and dark face, were enslaved in America and came to America on boats.

Hait and Cheri, please do a breakdown/dissection of each main character from the severely underrated movie, "Stage Door" from 1937.
It's my second favorite film of all-time.
If possible, please do 2 more dissections/breakdowns.
#2. (In my opinion) the greatest film of all-time, "Peyton Place" from 1957 with Lana Turner and a young Russ Tamblyn.
In the '60s, my grandma used to binge watch the "Peyton Place" TV show (which launched Ryan O'Neal & Mia Farrow's careers).
#3. This one is also absolutely legendary.
It's the movie that launched Joan Crawford from a washed up actress at 37 years old, to an instant legend overnight.
"Mildred Pierce" from 1945 is my third favorite film of all-time.
My favorite scene is when Joan and Ann Blyth (Joan's daughter, Veda, in the movie) are arguing on the stairwell and Joan sounded like a black mom when she yelled at Veda, "Get out! Get out... Before I kill you!"
Legendary scene and legendary acting from Joan, Ann and my favorite comedy actress, Eve Arden (who plays Mildred Pierce's aka Joan's friend in the movie).
By the way, I'm black so don't attack me about what I said earlier!
I love Axiom Amnesia (and I'm the guy who suggested you do a breakdown of Gone With The Wind in 2023)!

14 Floor! Thanks so much for such a thought provoking video.
There was an additional point I don't think you made when discussing the "Never Gonna Let You Go" sequence (about 10:40 in your video). The picture behind Amanda before she ascends the stairs (around 10:48 in your video) resembles hooded Klansmen. They are literally "backing her up" as she takes possession of the property.
Also, the name "GH" could be another presidential reference: Bush the father, George H W Bush, named after George Herbert Walker his grandfather, who went to Washington University to study law (the subject perhaps a tenuous link back to the Scott v Sandford case).

I liked that you really dug into American Civil war aspects of this movie. If you don't mind I would like us to try to go one level higher in our perspective on the hidden messages we are decoding and digging into with appropriate historical research in this movie.
I personally think this could be hinting to what will happen on the whole earth this time. The rerun will not just be the USA, but in fact will be what the rider on the Red horse of the Apocalypse is bringing to the earth. Mostly death by division. Just like the division and hatred they stir up with pushing racism.
This is the second Seal we find in the Book of Revelation.
[3] When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” [4] And out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.

The leasers let the the owners stay well they have the contract lease and the owners right and choice when to boot the leasers out of their house after the lease runs out. A question is, stronger together or weaker together in the different apocalyptic scenarios.

Like our Ancestors when they couldn't speak openly, or express themselves 🙄 Well there's your biggest easter egg right there from your ancestors all the way down to you.
    NOTHING CHANGED
    It's just easier to see
For the ones with eyes to see
    and ears to hear. 🥴

One thing that bothered me at the end was this girl was so obsessed with these fictional characters on a show called, "Friends," while she doesn't seem to give a shit about the real people around her, even her parents. The 2 families do become friends in the end, but no one is safe until they get to that bunker. The irony that the least affected, most oblivious character is the first one to make it to safety disturbed me. Usually, one's response to children is to feel relieved once they are safe, but I didn't feel that in this case. She's still alone & oblivious & seems to think it's fine to just go into some strangers' home & start eating their food like Goldilocks. Also, that little girl is WEIRD! And her wandering off without telling anyone where she's going endangers the others. So I don't feel any empathy or concern for her as I & most people usually would for a child. The electronic glow lighting her face at the end just reminded me of how glued young people are to screens these days, rarely having face-to-face interactions with flesh & blood people in the physical world. It was almost as if she was an android interacting with the world with almost no emotion & a single obsession. Anyway, I hope they all made it to the bunker, as you say you know they do. I am just so pessimistic that I only belive happy endings when I see them.

There was serious disconnect in that family, that's for sure. I took it as a symbol of family breakdown that we see in general now, due to most mothers not staying home to care for the children and how social media, the internet, and personal electronic devices have invaded our lives.

Great job. I saw someone talk about the products in the bunker pantry. They were racially problematic. I missed EVERYONE of the easter eggs.

There were other conspiracy drops in the movie, like some of the messages behind the clothing...The girl with the NASA shirt (never a straight answer) or the issue of did we land on the moon? (Kubrick director, hidden messages, like in the shinning)
