I've been doing this for years. It's a great glitch. I alway get the Dutch warmblood from valentine in chapter 2 before I do anything. That horse may not be the fastest but it has maxed out stamina when fully bonded. And in chapter 2 that's a must for me 👌
I prefer the Strawberry one, I had to sell it to make room for the black standardbred, but I'll get another one. The seal brown is basically another black horse with no white on it!
As much as this works, I don't know why anyone would be worrying about a couple of hundred dollars for horses. After the Valentine bank and a couple of gold bars (the one in the burnt town near the chapter 2 camp respawns after a time), I didn't have to worry about money for the rest of the game. I think the only time I used the temporary horse system was getting the Turkoman from the rustling mission near the start of chapter 3. And that was my main horse right until the end of chapter 6.
A problem that seems to be a consensus amongst players when playing as John Marston after the game seems to be when trying for the white Arabian but also the Hungarian Piebald Tobiano horse as you rack up a bounty in Annesburg. I been bucked, kicked, or the horse heads for the water to drown, and it has been a couple days now and I can not mount or get near them. They are way way more skittish and temperamental....mostly mental however.
When you meet the drunk guy in Valentine asking for directions the horse that kicks him, if you misdirect him is a turkoman, if I'm no mistaken, or a dutch warmblood, don't remember now.

Perhaps John isn't as good with horses lol.
