Small thing I missed - defeating Krampus will drop 2 Broken Hearts as opposed to Blue Broken Hearts with Gabriel and Uriel.
i appreciate the detail that hes damned no matter what path he choses. the angels will purify him out of existence, the devil will shatter him.
He killed the son of GOD and probably many more, I’m surprised the angels are even helping him at all.
@creechieuihana it seems more like a death march to me. he knows he's fucked regardless and it's just a matter of doubling down or seeking a less painful annihilation
I don't think it's the same Judas but maybe
@deletedTestimony all tarnished characters are the tainted in a worse state of decay (sometimes literal) than before, and the tainted are the normal at their worst. isaacs indecisiveness, Maggie's incessant need for love, the losts loneliness, etc
@@creechieuihanathe tragedy of Judas is that Christ would have forgiven him had he repented, not that he did something so horrible that he couldn’t be
love how they changed the descent projectiles to lazers, that stopes the huge lag spikes tarnished judas would cause on glass cannon runs that had him using all shadow clones
And allows for a much cleaner description of how they work.
calling him TJ really makes him sound like some discount snoop dog stand-in for a game antagonist
I felt the vibes too lmao
@@davitucsonn2243 LOL SAME
The angelic variant blows the devil form out of the goddamn water, a free double dps that you can buff even more with descent is waaaaay better than 8 shadows that shoot wet noodles as tears
Good. Angels are always better than devils (not even talking religiously, I just simp for angels)
I personally liked the devil version due to the fact you can have a bunch of extra brimstone lasers, but it’s different for everyone. I also enjoy the angel variant as well
the angel variant being stronger makes up for devil items usually being stronger. you get the the angel buff with awesome devil items
@@xebrax124 I thought it was generally agreed that angel items were stronger
Nah devil variant is op as well with 7 shadow clones max damage output is 8x and max for angel is only 3x but more consistent it's close and in no way blows the devil form out of the water also phase 1 is just worse straight up, you're underestimating the clones damage
I may be wrong but defeating krampus drops a broken heart
You are not, in fact i think it drops two actually.
Yup - adding this to a pinned comment. I focused more on the Blue Broken Hearts since they're new. Didn't cross my mind to check for new Broken Heart methods.
it seems like a weird choice, mechanically, to have have Radiance's damage scale up based on how close it is. i get how thematically it kinda makes sense for radiance to be a sort of inversion of the shadow clones. but having it's highest damage when it's combined with you kinda just incentivizes you to play the character like a normal character and ignore the gimmick. theoretically the AOE attack that Descent gains incentivizes you to play with Radiance far away from you, so you could say it balances out. and maybe that's true, maybe i'm underestimating how good that AOE is. but i feel like the effective 250% damage increase (essentially a 3.5x multiplier) from having radiance on top of you seems like the obviously optimal choice to me
The thing is, it forces you to constantly stay close to enemies (as making Radiance move far to kill enemies is far less effective, and only being one of it makes it FAR worse at crowd control, unless you use Descent), which forces you to be at a decent risk most of the time (especially given the lower max health and double damage).
A lot of people are shitting on Demonic Judas, but the thing they don't get is that, with that form it allows you to let the shadows do all the work for you, having amazing crowd control capabilities, while you stay at a safe distance, and with decent tear effect it can deal more than enough damage to clear entire rooms with barely any effort and risk on your end (with Descent allowing to do that even better and faster if used properly).
So in the end, Angelic Judas might be potentially more fun and powerful, but it forces you to take matter into your hands far more, with more risk involved, while Demon Judas can just let the shadows kill everything with decent effectives and not having to get himself involved too much with the enemies.
@@alsartsavience3512 hmm ok i see your point! i would counter that you never _really_ have to stay close to enemies unless you're a melee character (or have made some very poor decisions with your build). but yeah that's a very good point about crowd control
Do you think people in the past were doing bible what if? Fanfics?
Like, “what if judas never betrayed jesus?” Our “what if Éden meets noah in the future?”
What if Jesus was locked and betrayed in the time chamber for 10000 years
isaac mods if making devil deals and angel deals balanced was a class:
at least there's something with the having devil broken hearts and angel broken hearts cancel out gimmick
I agree with everyone that the new Angel forms are way too good, so here’s a proposed change:
Having the Radiance be too near you slowly kills you. You *can’t* have the 3x (because 1x is you, and 2x is from the Radiance) damage multiplier without dying from the light of god, and the Shadow Clones could provide some sort of defensive effect that allows you to not die in mere moments, which would be an interesting reversal of the typical Angel-Devil dichotomy in Isaac, where you go Angels for offense and Devils for defense now instead of vice-versa.
The reason why this change specifically is because there’s still a bit of Darkness on TR Judas’ sprite, indicating he still has some darkness within him, so being so close to the light of god could be slowly killing him if he remains exposed for too long.
Lmk if you guys have any other ideas on how to change these mechanics to be more balanced
You can just have Radiance increase the amount of damage Tarnished Judas takes when close to him, but this might make the character pretty freakin hard.
You could just make the Radiance clone do an effect akin to God Head/Dog's tear aura, where you can get close for a set amount of time but at some point a laser will damage you, and the closer you are to Radiance the faster the effect will trigger
still don't really see the reason to *ever* split up the clones for combat
the shadows grant a 5% dmg buff for each, and Radince is a flat out 200% multiplier
simple. mobility. the clones can hit things you otherwise couldnt, and you get a quick teleport over terrain if youre caught slipping
lowkey just for the clash damage + brief extra damage from radiance after recalling the shadow. It may not be enough to really think about using it but eh
wrong, it's a 300% multiplier, but 200% ADDITONAL
Hitting multiple enemies at once, better crowd control when you have enough shadows, actually dealing decent extra damage by positioning the shadow in front at the right distance from you, so at both your and its tear hit the same enemy.
In large rooms, you can outright let the shadows do the work for you while you remain as a safe position (and considering the double damage you take, you very much want that)
At the final devil phase, using Descent with the shadows decently spaced out can outright destroy entire group of enemies in a single move; without mentioning it's always an amazing escape tool, if you caught yourself in a corner.
Also, trust me on this: if you have some kind of homing effect for the tears (or anything that applies a status effect, for that matter), final devil phase for TR.Judas with the shadows decently spaced out is a killing machine that destroys everything in his path.
For the final Angel Form....well yes, you do in fact want to not split the Radiance for the most time (But because of that, you can't rely on it too much for attacking from a distance, so you have to get close to enemies), but you can't just ignore the buff for using descent when Radiance is far enough from you, the damage you can deal then is HIGH.
But i mean, if splitting the shadows requires too much brain power to do, then to each their own i guess.
@@alsartsavience3512 you still have 4 hits which is more hp than the lost lol and robo baby 2 was never fun to play with and this is just mega robo baby 2 I dont think they are super weak but the angelic version is just more fun because big damage is judas game
I feel like damage decrease on devil's path is unnecessary, bc it makes angel path seem much more valuable (even if you have a lot of clones, you don't deal too much damage bc you not always can place them far away enough or they miss their shots in big rooms). I think they should nerf angel path a little or boost devil one to make both paths more or less of the same level
It would have been cool if to unlock tr judas instead of going to either sheol or cathedral you went to a fucked up fusion of both
would be cool if birthright added the ability to have both kinds of broken hearts at once and have half angel half devil buffs
That would be a terrible idea, actually.
Not only having to code all possible forms he can have would be a nightmare (and the two forms are meant to be 2 distinct gameplay styles, so i don't see the need to mix those, as the point of the character is to choose your path), it would also make it that you can't remove your broken hearts to regain health, removing a choice from the player and eventually not allowing to take anymore angel or devil deals, as it would just kill them.
@@alsartsavience3512 if you need it to be less punishing, then they could add a shifting hitbox for when using the shadows. Your outermost shadow(the one you swap places with) would be your hitbox instead of TJ and you would take broken heart dmg instead of normal dmg wich would remove your form progress when you lose enough broken hearts to revert a lower form
@@thevoid3852 That just sounds like it will just lead to a TON of unintended hits from moving the shadow onto an enemy accidentaly, which is extremely easy considering how fast they move.
It would force people to either not move the shadows at all (which from what i am seeing...they already don't, either because they are lazy or skill issue, but whatever), or being unreasonably careful when moving them, which is clearly not intended by design.
I think right now it's perfectly fine that the Angel/Devil path Judas can take is up entirely to the player choice, not from a different source; the current birthright effect simply allows to do that more effectively, while being very simple and clear.
In general, i believe the Birthright effects should make the characters better at what they currently do, not introduce an entirely different problem to worry about.
@@alsartsavience3512 I guess it would be bad, but would be cool tho
We already had enough by adding the angel path, plus adding this just for a birthright seems really complicated for a birthright effect. Birthright effects should be kept simple, while improving the strengths of the character. It’s still just one item, after all.
The rework looks interesting
I love the tarnished characters so much
Birthright needs to make it 3 hearts per stage and add a third even more broken stage to the character
so now they solidified the reason why you should go ANGEL, ALWAYS, with tarnished judas, to not need to get involved with the shadow judas, and instead just get a flat out bonus x2 damage multiplier on every tear you fire while not needing to do anything with ctrl at all, like okay doing it makes that burst that applies a debuff, but that also makes the radiant judas do less damage, so you have to hold ctrl to move the radiance to the other room, press the descent dagger to make the blast, THEN hold ctrl to make radiance poof back into tarnished judas' place, so you now get the full benefits of damage (yes it's worth, but that's still too much work for a temporary damage up on enemies tbh, expecially since on room change they get reset on judas' position, cant pre-prep to do it every time)
I think it would be interesting if when you Decent in Angelic Phase 3 your Radiance is still where it was. So when you Decent you would be fully on the Radiance when you use it. It removes half of the hassle with using then.
so glad they removed the particles from descent, the lag it caused made him unplayable
Thats a crazy change its cool
Making a character which has 2 different sides.
A new broken heart machine
Wait...
Won't broken heart (the iteam that gives you broken hearts when ever you die instead of ending the run)
Wouldn't be op?
Heartbreak?
The one that gives you 3 (red) broken hearts on taking lethal damage, but keeps you alive if you don't have 12 (red) broken hearts?
Dude, idk what it is with this comment section but it’s filled with almost pure negativity. This may be worse than tboi twitter. I know it’s not your fault but like, damn.
People are like, This is too complex, even though it's just
1. two different builds
2. Use shadows to descent teleport
DONE
So this character is the main character from "Infamous"?
Вау, об этой игре кто-то помнит
Yes
Getting birthright twice as this guy should remove the limit on how many broken hearts you can have without it killing you.
First of all, "getting birthright twice" is not something a character should have. There’s one birthright effect for each character and one birthright effect only.
Second, this birthright effect removes one of the weakness of the character which is not what you should be aiming for in a birthright.
Third, this idea is just not possible in general because of the Isaac API.
We should create a competive gamemod for isaac with mod like épiphanie or fiend folio
This is what happens when Judas and Mastema have a baby:
I feel this rework is a don't starve refference
Ok so now there’s just no reason to go devils? Other than allowing you to take more angel deals I guess?
It's tear effcts vs raw damage, which is SUCH a cool idea imo
bro can really be your angle or your devil now
Basically, angel form better unless you have continuum or tractor beam
I really do not like how they changed Tarnished Judas in this update, given that now it actually punishes you greatly for going Devil Deals, whereas the pre-rework Tarnished Judas allowed you a more balanced and less punishing gameplay, gaining broken hearts through Devil deals and erasing them through Angel deals.
The angelic forms literally negate any reason for anyone to go Devil deals because it actually rewards so for doing so, breaking Tarnished Judas' only gimmick: picking your poison.
Overall, this update has been really bad outside of the other additions such as cutscenes and stuff, wtf? The Tarnished Isaac fetch quest is boring and bland, Tarnished Judas has been broken into just going full Angel deals and Tarnished Lost is literally "huge risk, little reward", a disappointment to be honest, but oh well.
...You can STILL go to angel deals to remove the broken hearts, tho?
If you take broken blue hearts when you have broken red hearts, they will both nullify each other, regaining some max health.
Tf you on about? Pick your poison 7 shadow clones with 0.1-1x damage devil items or 1 shadow clone with 1x-2x damage angel items they're both insane for the cost of being on low hp i think they did great with this rework
So even someone like Judas can be forgiven? Either God has eternal patience or has absolutely zero standards.
I'm not quite sure that what the angel did was forgiveness
God forgives all, and I headcanon what the angels do as the burning fire of purgatory

i really dislike the swith up between the second stage and the third one, it feels like they couldn't come up with a natural evolution to the second stage
You mean the angel stages?
I think the "natural evolution" intended here is simple: being all about on one singular extremely powerful shadow (or Radiance in this case), which is the complete opposite to the final devil stage where there multiple weaker shadows (since in that phase TR.Judas's damage multiplier is slightly decreased, for balance reasons of course, but still).
In Angel Stage 2, TR.Judas still has 2 of his shadows to help him, while the third one gets somewhat converted to Radiance, a weak and incomplete one that can't even shot, so it only adds the angelic AoE to Descent.
But in Angel Stage 3, the shadows dissapear only leaving Radiance at it's full power (which i immagine is like multiple shadows compressed into one entity), making this stage all about it: Radiance can shot high damaging tears, the AoE effect is even bigger and applies a debuff that allows Radiance to deal EVEN more damage with its already powerful tears.
It's all about one singular entity, not multiple.
Man, all the tarnished characters feel really unfocused. I feel like he could've been two separate characters, instead of this amalgamation of different mechanics
It feels kind of weird to need a whole ten minute guide video about a single character, i dont think any of the base game characters would need something like that. Creates a sort of dissonance between the mod and the rest of the game
@@BalsamicJeebs i guess tainted ??? may need something like that but i see what you mean
@@The_Deep_Blue even then, a hypothetical tainted blue baby guide would just be describing his different poops.
@@The_Deep_Blue I feel like Ta-Mag is the only tarnished thats simple-ish.
Throw heart, hit enemy for more heart, collect heart to heal and fill reserve, fill reserve for more heart, throw heart, repeat, unga bunga
Doesn't seem that hard to understand, the gimmick is simple to get, plus it's an update, Tainted Apollyion got a new video just for his new synegies during the TBoI Rep + update.
It deserved a rework, might as well be the worst tarnished character
Nah bro this character is cool as shit
Just because it’s cool doesn’t mean it works properly.
Worst in terms of gameplay? Nah, that’s Lost.
It?
@@reesewhittington6778lost has fantastic gameplay
wait so what's even the point of going withdevil deals in a run with him lmao
You can take more angel deals by neutralizing some of you're blue hearts
My guess is that Devil judas is a lot better than angel Judas with a lot of good tear effects, it’s like the difference between a soy milk run and a polyphemus run. Angel judas is gonna be good at burst damage, but if you have homing, euthanasia, or meucermicosis, Devil judas is going to cook
Demonic Judas has far better overall crowd control capabilities allows you to stay at a safe distance while you let the shadows do the work for you; and if you have decent tear effects (synergies, homing or status effect), the damage you can rank up can be still more than enough to kill everything in your path, while rarely having to put you at any risk.
Angelic Judas forces you to stay close at enemies since Radiance does less damage when far, it does amazing damage at single targets but unless you use Descent, it's far worse against group of enemies.
I do think Angelic Judas is more fun to play with (and potentially more powerful at best, if you use him properly), but Demonic Judas is anything BUT weak, trust me.
Holy phase 3 is broken
one question. the blue broken hearts add to the damage given by heartbreak?
Yes, they do!
@@IsaacGuru nice, thanks
Does continum works with the clones tho?
Yes, all items are copied by them, including Continuum.

i think 3 clones are overkill or is just me ?
Is this available for repentance +? (I mean epiphany mod as a whole , is it possible to use without ur savefile going kaboom?)
(Edit: thx guys 4 the answers :') )
Not recommended on rep+. It breaks the mod A LOT
@tiburones202 oh man...
@tiburones202 how can I play it then? Can one uninstall a dlc? (Im new to steam, i've been a ps4/3 guy all my life)
You can right click the game on Steam ,then go to Properties - DLC, and easily disable Repentance+ or any other DLC.
you can try it on repentance+ and it probably won't break your save file, but stuff isn't gonna work right. if i were you i'd just wait till it's officially ported over
I hate how they changed tarnished isaac ;(
While the rework is appreciated, why would I ever bother with the devil version when I can just get a flat 2x damage bonus and pick up a whole bunch of angel items along the way? Why are modders still treating devil deals like they're valuable?
The thing with devil deals (at least how i see them) is that they give you more item choices and appear more often, but with a cost in max HP, whereas angel deals give you an item for free, but they take longer to get + usually don't even give you a choice
So you gotta decide based off how your run is currently going if you can afford to fork some HP over for more strong item options, or be patient and conserve HP
(of course this is all talking outside of tarnished judas gameplay- his case makes the balance between the two really complicated)
@@distorted_heavy because the other side is a potential 8x damage boost with devil items along the way?
I don't see why he takes 2x damage?
Because It takes from base Judas the fact that it's the glass cannon type of character, low health and high damage, and amplifies it to the extreme; with Judas however you can circumvent it by just getting more health.
With Tr.Judas instead, he's always the fragile character related to his current power level, and it's up to you to decide if you want the comfort of having as much health as possible while being very weak in combat, or being only a few hits from death but being powerful enough to not even let the enemies have a chance to hurt him.
Rep+??
this still looks like a pretty terrible character ngl. downsides and requirements are crazy
So uh… the devil version is still ass, no?
From someone that played this character before and after the rework: no??? It never was and it still definitely isn't?
the main force of the final devil phase is bullet spam and crowd control: you can let the shadows do all the work for you while you stay far and safe, and Descent does that even better if the enemies are in a good spot; all of this is even better if you have decent tear items that inflitct status effects, and if you have homing then devil TR.Judas is straight up the superior choice for how little it requires from the player.
From my experience and seeing how people comment on it, it's almost like they never tried to separate the shadows at all when using this character.
Why the rework?
Since it was one of the first characters to be introduced in the mod (Wave 2, the second major update i believe), it wasn't up to the same standards of the other Tarnished that came later, so they reworked him by giving him a bit more depth, as well as reworking the unlock quest to be more similar to all other ones.
As far as i am aware, Tarnished Judas was the last one planned to get a rework.
also btw you completely named wrong the phases.
phase 1 is full angel
phase 2 is half angel
phase 3 is normal
phase 4 is half devil
phase 5 is full devil
I ended up naming them more user-friendly for the video. Pretty sure the 1 to 5 names are only used internally for coding purposes.
what i’m most disappointed in is that the broken heart types cancel each other out. also the birthright is boring. also angel deals are overpowered. also the unlock method is boring.
… maybe he needs another rework.
Second and Fourth are subjective, i guess. Third i already explained it in other comments, but in short they might be more powerful if used properly, but it forces to fight enemies up close, compared to the shadows that allows you to do the work for you while you stay at a safe distance.
But i really don't understand the first point? Like you expect both to give you broken hearts with no way to remove them?
This is way too many mechanics for a single character :/
It literally boils down to simply what the game and the steam page already explain to you:
1) Angel/Devil deals make him more frail but more stronger, in two different ways depending on the path you take.
2) Control the position of the shadows to deal optimal damage.
3) Use descent for extra damage, teleportation and against multiple or a single enemy.
Like at most the hardest thing it ask for the player is to use the drop button constantly to control the shadows and using Descent, and also for the final Angel Phase having to hold "Q" after Descent to max damage possible; after you get past that however, you will feel like and unstoppable machine as enemies don't stand a chance against you. I do personally find extremely fun for commiting to the character's mechanic and being rewarded for it.
* The character takes an extra half a heart of damage
* you have shadows that you can move by shooting while holding the drop button that do a part of your damage depending on the distance
* you can switch the position with the opposite shadow by using descent doing damage to enemies between shadows, holding the use pocket slot button charged a recall ability
* Devil deals give two broken hearts and angel deals two blue broken hearts. Blue broken hearts work like broken hearts, having both types at the same time cancels each other
* Depending on how many broken hearts and depending on the type, you switch stages, each having different benefits
