Grew up in North Beds and have fond memories of the place - 80s/90s with Lazy Sunday, River Festival, pubs - Angel, Bear, Esquires, clubs - Riviera Lights, Milwaukees, radio - Chiltern Radio, Risk FM. Multi-cultural mix of English, Italian, West Indian, Asian, and Polish communities. Like many town centres has struggled in the last decade and fallen on some tough times but has lots to offer. Still try and get back down from the north for River Festival every two years - an exceptional weekend with a great vibe, especially in the sunshine! Thanks for the vids @Pi0trekPL
Wasn’t able to make it this year, gutted. Plus we’ve lost access to the VIP side of the embankment as my friends dad and uncle both sold their boats during the pandemic so we were gonna have to slum it on the other side of the river with the regulars 😂
Hi Piotrek :) Another great video :) FYI, at 7:40 at the Butterfly Bridge where my old club, Viking Kayak Club, were inviting folk to “have a go”, the guy in the blue hat and white Great Britain shirt is no other that Etienne Stott, Olympic gold medalist from London 2012 in canoe slalom, the Club’s highest achieving athlete :) The slalom venue a little way up the river where all the poles hang over the river at Duck Mill Weir (guess who designed that?) is named the “Etienne Stott White Water Arena” in recognition of his achievements :) More local info for you :) It’s great to see that the bi-annual river festival is still attracting thousands of people to maximize the enjoyment of Bedford’s beautiful Embankment. Thanks for the memories :)
