what a wonderfully complex book...the giver is going well beyond telling his own memories but actually sending them through some sort of what may be a psychic link in a way; where they are felt ad open to the senses. Not just his, but those of generations back and beyond. I remember reading about Carl Jung and a collective unconscious; a shared primordial memory link where all of memory is linked and stored. I found myself wondering around the “how” of the giver’s transmission ability and also around how memories are collected within the giver etc. the collective consciousness angle from Carl Jung seems like a pretty good metaphor here. I wonder if Lois Lory read Jung prior to forming this story idea!
