The BBC backed Little and Large over Morecambe and Wise. And that audience? Bused in from Last of the Summer Wine. Their kids are now the audience for Mrs Brown's Boys.

I used to babysit for a couple on my estate. I went round once and I'm sure he'd had a couple of liveners by then. I used to take round VHS films to watch, usually 18s. I put one on once and for some reason the brightness was turned down and there was no picture. It was history of the world part 2 which starts with grunting. He stopped in his tracks and says "oh is it a bluey? is it?" Yeah that's right I'm gonna watch hardcore porn with your kids, on yer way. Smokey and the bandit was on once and he nearly refused to go out because he said "it's the best film ever made". Anyway, he loved Little and Large, I think he was their core audience. You can't overlook just how big they were in that realm. Fucking awful Saturday night. Only thing worse was Cannon and Ball.
