Thanks for the update - I ordered my Canon R5 MkII back on Jul.23 @ 10:15 AM at a local shop KItamura Camera shop just outside of Sapporo, Japan. I got a phone call from the dealer about 5 weeks ago telling me that I'm 952 in the cue to get one - don't exactly when I'll get one.. Recently talked to a Yodobashi Camera salesman and told me those who pre-ordered from them - Jul. 23 are still waiting. He added that if one were to order one today, it will take at least 6 months. Like you were saying, it is a supply chain issue. Looking forward to the faster AF and improved low-light capabilities Cheers !!
I find Canon's distribution of new items very interesting. I guess they have their reasoning. When the RF 200-800 began shipping, it appeared that the lens could be found in the UK but few and far between in the US. Now, the R5 II was plentiful through B&H and small local shops in the US and nowhere to be found in the UK. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
@ordinaryfilmmaker, I've had the Mark ii for almost 4 weeks and have shot 6 events so far. Prior to release I was critical of the specs, i even asked you if you think this is a "wow" camera.... well, it is. It is not perfect, the auto focus is too "jumpy" when shooting events, settings sometimes change on its own, I. keep switching from Video to Camera thinking I'm turning the camera on/off, muscle memory from the R5 :). Clients now require 50% of their content as videos. This is where the Mark ii devours the R5, its video features and reliability. I am still madly in love with my R5 because from a real world events photographer perspective it truly is a perfect camera for events photography. I am very much still learning the Mark ii, but based on experience so far, this is a fantastic camera and I truly enjoy working with it.
I ordered my Canon R5 Mark II in early June 2024 and received it on September 5th with three batteries. I also ordered three additional batteries on September 9th, and I received them yesterday. I live in Switzerland and know that I’m lucky, especially when I remember having waited eight months to receive my Canon R5 version 1 after its official release four years ago. Just for your information.
I placed an order after hearing the original news two weeks ago thinking it would be a long wait (which I was ok with) and it was delivered this week via B&H.
I ordered my Mk2 here in the UK 2 hours after the announcemet and it was delivered on 21st August. At the same time I ordered a spare battery and a hot shoe adaptor which arrived 3 days later. I decided to get another spare battery just under 2 weeks ago which was showing an expected delivery on 27th September. Received an email today stating it's already been dispatched to arrive tomorrow.
Hi Simon, thanks for providing some overview, even when the outlook remains fuzzy. It seems like my camera store didn't have any supply yet, while one of the biggest chains in Europe briefly listed the R5ii as in stock on Monday, but they're again on 'sold out'.
What's your best guess about Black Friday and the R5MkII? With demand, I'm assuming retail price for the R5MkII will hold and lens will be the only sale items.
We could see a further discount of the R5, but I could also see Canoin raise the price $100 before, dropping it back down to $28 99. R5 II won't see a price break.
Last year's Profusion was amazing! You will ba able to checkout and handle some lenses that you won't see anywhere else, like the RF 1200mm or RF 100-300mm f2.8 (under Canon guys watch of course) Sony had their new Global Sensor camera body for a presentation and many many more, you're gonna love it
I pre-ordered my copy during the unveiling. This was available on the day, but I rejected mine because I think the difference with the R5 is too small for photography alone
Ordered mine the week before the release. Was told I might have to wait a few months. I received a call the day before the 20th telling me I can pick it up on the 20th. I was told not as many purchased the kit.
Got 2 new lp-e6p batteries from uk dealers, ordered Saturday, delivered yesterday. My R5ii ordered from a grey importer at a big saving arrives early next week.
In France it is impossible to buy a Canon R5 II because there are none and Canon does not deliver anything to resellers. Canon does not communicate with resellers for future deliveries. On the other hand, the batteries and grip are available.
With how strong the US dollar is right now, it makes sense Canon would prioritise US availability over Japan and the EU.They make a lot more money selling into America. Also, the original R5 simply has too limited of a dynamic range to make it worthwhile for a lot of people (filmmakers in particular). It's not an appropriate tool for the job and is hence not an option.
Simon, You can find LN R5 bodies for $2400 almost everywhere. Moreover, you can get batteries for the R5 and not be limited to the single battery limits of the R5 Mk II. It’s not a 4299 versus 2899 but really closer to a full 2:1 cost differential
Being a stills shooter mainly on birds in flight. When I saw the amount of attention given to video shooting I was disappointed, apart from the Pre capture. Then I saw that the pre capture is great if the birds flys off on the same plane, however does not work properly if it flys towards you. Decision made, bought a second Mk I.
You neglect to voice the resale price of a mark 1 version for those that can’t afford just buying a second body. Most are typically forced to sell their existing R5 to pay for a Mark II. So I see it costing more like $2500 more after selling the mark 1 version and outfitting the mark II with the necessary accessories. I was planning on selling one of my Sony A1’s to get one but will wait until lead time is not zero but at least predictable.
Thanks for this vid. Funny thing is that You can buy easily now batteries lpe6p in Poland but nobody has a r5mkII. In my opinion canon totally failed with r1. Biggest disappointment 😢
I have been able to order the R5 mkII for a few weeks, that's body only and 24-105mm kit ... delivery to the UK in a matter of days, so i don't see a shortage .... still no batteries tho
That Canon Apology page...would you please put a link to it. I am having a hard time looking for it...Appreciate you and you channel, keep up the great work.
I am shooting xf-avc 10 bit 4k fine in my r5 mark ii and the file is mp4 instead .mxf. Am i the only one with the same issue? Every resseler site says that suports mxf and the manual dont.
Perhaps we should not buy a new Canon camera now and wait for the new [pick a letter] mount where we will then be able to buy a whole lot of expensive lenses and bodies and wait months, if not years for them. Of course then it will take many more years to see third party [pick a letter] mount lenses with electronics and autofocus. I might buy a new camera and lens in 2035 but might not get it until 2045. I will be too frail at 90 to hold the camera but my robot assistant will take the pictures for me.
You frequently refer to the difference in price between the mk I and mk ii. I think you do your viewers a disservice by pretending the price of the body is the only deciding factor. However, added to that must be the price of three to four Canon-only batteries, a cooling grip which really isn’t simply a nicety, if you plan on shooting video is a necessity, eye cup, show cover and who knows what else. Picking the mk ii isn’t just $1800 dollars, but closer to $2500-$3000 difference if/when you make the switch. At least tell it like it is.
Just buy R5 or 1 DX Mark III they are great enough.

Someone at Canon needs to be look over their data more and treat all fairly. I'm glad I got mine day one, but waiting for the batteries is annoying.

They are doing a much better job than 2020 at delivering... not sure where the 6 month message is coming from.

Canon R5II is in stock on multiple official stores. Romania, Europe. Today I bought another battery (LP-E6P), and the grip, BG-R20.

Back in stock at B&H today
Any info on the R1 like shortages or delivery delays
Ordered mine the week before the release. Was told I might have to wait a few months. I received a call the day before the 20th telling me I can pick it up on the 20th. I was told not as many purchased the kit.

Ordered mine from Henry's Cnd a week or two before official release.... Still waiting...

I’m not entirely convinced the shipping delays for the R5ii are supply issues. My guy says it is a firmware update issue.

Cheers mate
I’m still waiting on my cooling fan grip, and my dealer commented that he received everything else except the cooling grip.
Me too... got $1500 worth of accessories on backorder...
I'll get the LP-E6P today but still waiting on the camera. I'm in Sweden. I can always stare on the batteries untill the camera shows up...
Stare and dream 😅

Exactly. The cost of all that puts you past Z8 w/24-105, and close to the Z9 body price

Interesting 🤔
In India, both Canon batteries and bodies are freely available.

Try cvp or fforde photographic, I ordered 2 Saturday, got them both yesterday.
In Iceland waiting in 2 line and nothing

b and h just emailed me that the r5 mii are now in stock
Excellent... Obviously no 6 month delay...
I am shooting xf-avc 10 bit 4k fine in my r5 mark ii and the file is mp4 instead .mxf.
Am i the only one with the same issue?
Every resseler site says that suports mxf and the manual dont.
same here
You think they Will fix that on firmware update ?
In all website ressellers says that suport based mxf, but on the manual only says mp4.

Why wait? Just buy a Sony
The R5 M2 is fundamentally useless with JUST ONE BATTERY! At least for the R5 M1, you can get PLENTY OF BATTEREIES! :0((((((((
Shhhh. You will trigger the Canon fanboys 😅
