That gas tank fuel so close to the battery two very flammable things together not so good.
The newer style has switched the cylinder shape with the piston shape and visa versa. completely opposite of this style.

Regarding the rotary engine. No matter how well you design, engineer, manufacture and assemble a turd. It's still a turd.
The wankel will never be competitive to a 4-stroke piston engine because the trochoid shape is a very inefficient combustion chamber. It has a large wetted area/volume so where fuel efficiency and emissions matter it's a fail. It has a place in applications where compact size is more important than fuel efficiency and emissions. Automobiles aren't one of them.
